I wanted to start by saying that the Dapsone treatment has been a complete game-changer for me. I got sick in 2017 and was lucky enough to get diagnosed in August of 2018. I was diagnosed with Lyme, Babesia, and Bartonella. My symptoms included a lot of neurological manifestations. Like extreme fatigue, joint pain, neuropathy, and cognitive difficulties, just to name a handful. I barely made it through my senior year of high school, and then I took two and a half years off from college. I'm also a triplet, so it was extremely hard for me to compare myself to two other people who are healthy and see how I am in comparison to them. Before I came to see Dr. Horowitz, I worked with a different Lyme doctor. I did I.V. antibiotics for a little over a year, as well as a cocktail of oral antibiotics, and Doxycyclin for around eight months. When I first met with Dr. Horowitz, it was concluded that I also had mild POTS, mold toxicity, and severe adrenal dysfunction. I met with him in May of 2022, and I told him that it was my dream to be able to go back to school in August, and we made that happen.

I have done a few rounds of Dapsone, and I have tolerated the drug extremely well. I was worried about the side effects, but I had no issues whatsoever. Previously, getting the IV treatments was very limiting in terms of what I was able to do. I took years of oral antibiotics, and that was also something I experienced burnout from multiple times. It's hard on you mentally and emotionally to be taking pills every day for years at a time. But once I started with Dapsone, I got so much better, so much quicker. It's been great that the Dapsone pulses are so short. Because taking all these pills helps with mental health and burnout. When people ask how the treatment is, I don't lie. It is hard. It is intense. But I chose my hard, and I chose that my hard would be the treatment and not suffering from my Lyme disease. Today, I'm about 95 to 98% better. I just finished a Quad Dapsone. I just finished that about a month ago, and I'm feeling great. I've moved out, living with my parents. I'm in school, and I'm doing so well that I don't even remember the last time I felt so great. Thank you.

Dr. Richard Horowitz is a board-certified internist and the medical director of the Hudson Valley Healing Arts Center, an integrative medical center which combines both classical and complementary approaches in the treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne disorders. 
He has treated over 13,000 Lyme and tick-borne disease patients in the last 30 years, with patients coming from all over the US, Canada, and Europe to his clinic. 
He is one of the founding members and past president elect of ILADS, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society, and Dr Horowitz was previously awarded the Humanitarian of the Year award by the Turn the Corner Foundation as well as awards from Project Lyme for his treatment of Lyme Disease. He has dedicated his life to helping those stricken with this devastating illness.
He is also the author of two best-selling books on Lyme disease, Why Can’t I Get Better?
