Anne Germain, PhD is founder and CEO of NOCTEM® Health, an start-up company that combines sleep science, evidence based practices, and digital technologies to scale the delivery and access to behavioral sleep care.
Dr. Germain is an internationally renowned expert in clinical sleep research and behavioral sleep medicine. She obtained her bachelors’ degree in science (BSc) from McGill University, and her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the University of Montreal in 2001. She completed her post-doctoral training in clinical trials methods and sleep neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005, where she joined the Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry.
She has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles (see sample here), invited papers, and book chapters on insomnia, nightmares, treatments of sleep disorders, and sleep in the context of PTSD and other trauma-related disorders. She co-edited a book entitled, Sleep and Combat-Related PTSD, (Springer, 2018) and a special edition of the journal Sleep Medicine on Sleep and Performance (2020). She has served on various committees of the Sleep Research Society and American Academy of Sleep Medicine and served as Program Chair of the Annual SLEEP meeting from 2018 to 2020. She has served on various research review committees for the Department of Defense, the National Institutes of Health, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
In 2019, Dr. Germain left her academic career to found NOCTEM with the mission to accelerate the translation of best practices in sleep medicine into science-driven, user-centered digital solutions to upskill and multiply the capabilities in behavioral sleep medicine for broad array of healthcare providers and (2) support sleep and performance optimization efforts in high-risk, high-tempo environments.
