I am Dr. Susan Hughes, a now two-time #1 International Best Selling Author, Executive Life and Business Coach, International Speaker, associate professor at the medical school, a now clinically retired physician, and an unapologetic traumatic brain survivor. I have been educating patients, parents, educators, and even fellow medical professionals for over two decades on how the brain works and what we can do to improve our learning and our lives. I even founded an educational nonprofit to help bring new technology to children with SID (sensory integration dysfunction) or SPD ( sensory processing disorder) Like many of you, I was the typical over-extended physician, wife, and Mom to two amazing Kids. I was exhausted and wanted to improve my life-work balance.
Life had an interesting way of responding to my plea. Just over ten years ago while on vacation, I was in a car accident and suffered a significant traumatic brain injury. I retired from clinical medicine and focused on my recovery. Unfortunately, I was hit by a speeding red light runner in the summer of 2022 was knocked out, and suffered a second major TBI.
I started coaching, advocacy, and teaching after my first accident and after a pause, restarted that after my second car accident. Today I’m going to talk about some aspects of the brain and how it affects how we sleep.
