Dr. Julie Owen Morris, NBC-HWC, owns Functional Autoimmunity, LLC, which specializes in brain health and autoimmune disease. Julie fell in love with the brain in high school, deciding then to get a doctorate in speech-language pathology. She received a BS from the University of Oklahoma, an MEd from the University of Central Oklahoma, & a PhD from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Her doctoral work focused on neurogenic brain disorders. After lupus forced her to quit seeing patients as an SLP, she dove into researching autoimmune disease and cognitive decline. She then taught college for 12 years as an adjunct professor. After changing her diet & lifestyle, her health improved so much that she went back to school to become a health coach and lead others through similar changes. Dr. Julie likes to say, “Conventional medicine may have kept me alive, but functional medicine made my life worth living again.” Dr. Julie holds a national Certificate of Clinical Competence & Oklahoma state license in speech-language pathology. She is a certified ReCODE 2.0 coach, a Positive Intelligence® coach, a MoCA cognitive assessment rater, a functional medicine certified health coach from Functional Medicine Coaching Academy affiliated with IFM & a certified gluten-free practitioner through Dr. Tom O’Bryan’s program. Dr Julie is constantly researching & learning. She published her first book, Chronically in Christ, in 2023, and her second book, Hiding Behind the Fog: Stop Ignoring Cognitive Impairment in Autoimmune Disease, in 2025. She lives with her wonderful husband, two intelligent daughters, Misha the Yorkie, and Belle the cat. She loves reading, pets, the beach, the color blue, dark chocolate, Zumba, & time with family & friends.

Ideas for podcast episodes :

How should I live if I want to be dementia-free?

What can you tell me about lifestyle factors involved in autoimmune disease?

Why is there hope for people with lupus?

How do I know there’s another way to get better with autoimmune disease, besides injections, infusions, and medications?

Questions im always ready to answer :

What can we do to encourage people to make changes to prevent dementia, instead of waiting until they’re already experiencing cognitive decline?

How can we convince people now that lifestyle matters in preventing and reversing autoimmune disease?

When will conventional medicine catch up to current research that diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, etc. can prevent and reverse many chronic diseases? How do we reach conventional doctors and professionals with this information?
