Marc Abreu, MD, is a physician, researcher, and medical inventor whose work bridges medicine and physics. He trained at Indiana University, the University of Pittsburgh, Harvard University, and Yale University. He also held clinical and faculty appointments in ophthalmology and anesthesiology at Harvard and Yale.
While at Yale, Dr. Abreu discovered the Brain Thermal Tunnel, a thermophysical pathway that allows brain temperature to be monitored noninvasively. He currently serves as Founder, Chief Scientific Officer, and Medical Director of the BTT Medical Institute.
His research focuses on brain thermodynamics, heat shock proteins, therapeutic fever, and possible applications for ALS, other neurodegenerative conditions, and cancer.
A published case report describes the outcome of one ALS patient treated with this approach, while a registered safety study is examining controlled fever-range hyperthermia. The use of this technology as an ALS treatment remains investigational and requires larger controlled trials and independent validation.
