Ryan was previously a SEO Analyst at Terakeet that helped consult Fortune 500 companies.

Ryan was previously a communications researcher at Indiana University Bloomington. He completed his PhD in Media Arts and Sciences in 2021. His dissertation was titled “Evangelism in the Tech Industry: Interviews with Evangelists.” The research involved interviewing individuals with the title “Evangelist” or “Advocate” to learn more about how industry professionals build support for technology brands.

In 2021, Ryan founded After Your PhD. “After Your PhD” is a website that provides career advice and resources for PhD holders who are transitioning into non-academic careers. The website offers a variety of resources, including articles, podcasts, interviews, and webinars, all focused on helping PhD holders explore and navigate their career options. The resources cover a wide range of topics, including job search strategies, resume and cover letter writing, networking, interview preparation, and professional development.
