Professions: Inventor, Translational Chemist

Dr. Sundeep Dugar, PhD, is a pharmaceutical chemist, inventor, and co-founder of BlueOakNX, a public benefit corporation developing nutraceuticals grounded in pharmaceutical-grade science and bioenergetics research.

With nearly 40 years of experience in small-molecule drug discovery spanning metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease, oncology, and the central nervous system, Dr. Dugar brings uncommon scientific rigor to the dietary supplement space. He is co-inventor of Zetia (ezetimibe) and Vytorin (ezetimibe/simvastatin), two of the most widely prescribed cholesterol-lowering agents in the world, and is the recipient of the American Chemical Society’s 2004 Heroes of Chemistry Award and the 2005 National Inventor of the Year Award. He holds a PhD in Chemistry from UC Davis, completed postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich and Cornell University, and has contributed to 70-plus peer-reviewed publications and 100-plus issued patents.

At BlueOakNX, Dr. Dugar leads the science behind Mitokatlyst, a plant-derived compound backed by more than 15 years of bioenergetics research and published in peer-reviewed journals. The research program centers on mitochondrial biogenesis, the cellular process by which new mitochondria are generated, and Mitokatlyst’s role as a proposed natural mimic of a novel mitochondrial hormone pathway. Published studies have examined its effects on muscle strength and endurance, cardiovascular markers, metabolic function, and inflammatory response. The product is manufactured to precise dose and purity specifications in a US FDA-registered cGMP facility.

Dr. Dugar also leads A New Dimension, a team recognized as a Top 40 Milestone Award winner and semifinalist in the $101 Million XPRIZE Healthspan competition, one of the most competitive scientific challenges in longevity and healthy aging research.

His work spans both the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sectors and is of growing interest to clinicians across integrative, functional, rare disease, and conventional medicine who are exploring the role of mitochondrial health in patient outcomes.
