Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition characterized by compression of the median nerve as it passes through a narrow passage in the wrist called the carpal tunnel. The median nerve provides sensation to the palm side of the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and part of the ring finger. Symptoms of CTS include tingling, numbness, and pain in the affected fingers and hand, often worsening at night. The condition can be caused by repetitive hand and wrist movements, wrist injuries, rheumatoid arthritis, and other medical conditions that lead to swelling and inflammation in the carpal tunnel. Treatment options for CTS range from conservative measures such as wrist splints, rest, and activity modification to anti-inflammatory medications and corticosteroid injections. In severe or persistent cases, surgery may be necessary to relieve pressure on the median nerve. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are essential to prevent long-term complications and ensure optimal hand function.
