Broken Heart Syndrome: When Stress Literally Stuns the Heart
Dr. John explains broken heart syndrome—how severe stress can temporarily stun and reshape the heart, especially in women over 58.
In this episode of The Balancing Point, I break down broken heart syndrome—also known as Takotsubo or stress-induced cardiomyopathy—and explain how intense emotional or physical stress can temporarily weaken and reshape the heart. We explore how it differs from a true heart attack, why women are most at risk, and what stress hormones actually do to cardiac function. I also share practical acupressure tools you can use during high-stress situations.
