“At 36, he was told he may only have weeks to live.” One of the most thought-provoking aspects of my conversation with Richie Moore was not simply the diagnosis itself, but the way he describes responding to it. After being told he had an aggressive lymphoma requiring immediate treatment, he recalls entering a remarkably composed and analytical state. Rather than reacting purely from panic, he began asking questions, seeking understanding and trying to process what was happening in front of him. I think this raises an important conversation about how people respond differently to fear, uncertainty and life-altering news. Moments of crisis often reveal far more than we expect about identity, belief systems, resilience and intuition. What I appreciated most about this discussion was the nuance. There was no simplistic narrative, no certainty and no performance. Just an honest exploration of fear, autonomy and the complexity of navigating a deeply serious diagnosis. Conversations like this remind us that healing journeys are rarely straightforward or emotionally predictable. #WellnessOnTap #MindBodyConnection #IntegrativeHealth

“I thought I was pursuing health. I was actually terrified.” In this clip from Wellness on Tap, Richie Moore reflects on how fear of illness, perfectionism and hypervigilance shaped his approach to health and wellness for many years following an HIV diagnosis. From strict routines and extreme wellness behaviours to the emotional pressure of constantly trying to stay “healthy”, this conversation explores the difference between self-care and fear-based control. Topics explored in this episode include: • Fear-driven wellness habits • Perfectionism and self-worth • Emotional wellbeing • Hypervigilance and control • Healing and self-compassion • Integrative health and self-awareness What I found especially powerful was the honesty and nuance in this conversation. It is a reminder that healing is rarely linear, and that wellbeing is about far more than appearances or routines alone. “This is what burnout really looks like.” In this clip from Wellness on Tap, Richie Moore reflects on the emotional and physical pressure of trying to care for everyone around him while quietly neglecting himself in the process. From fostering children and managing constant responsibility to maintaining the image that he could “cope”, this conversation explores the hidden side of high-functioning burnout. Topics explored include: • Emotional suppression • High-functioning burnout • Self-neglect and caregiving • Stress accumulation • Perfectionism and pressure • The emotional cost of constantly “holding it together” One of the most powerful moments in this conversation is Richie’s reflection that he wanted the “badge of Super Dad”… but at what cost? I think many people will recognise themselves in this discussion. Healing is rarely linear, and acknowledging exhaustion is sometimes the beginning of meaningful change. Cell Danger Response: Why Healing Gets Stuck
Discover how Cell Danger Response shifts mitochondria away from normal energy production and into a temporary defense state designed to protect the body from perceived threats. Natural Doesn’t Mean Gentle: The “Soothing” Ingredients That Backfire on Eczema Skin
Broken skin can teach the body to fear a food. When a food protein like oat or goat milk reaches the immune system through inflamed skin before the gut has learned it's safe, the body can flag that food as a threat. Keep food-based ingredients off flaring skin, especially foods your child hasn't eaten yet or already reacts to. A new herbal balm that makes things worse points to the daisy family. Chamomile and calendula are relatives of ragweed, so a child with seasonal allergies can react to the very product meant to soothe them. The reaction often looks like an ordinary flare, which is why parents reach for more of the same balm. The back of the bottle tells you more than the front. Line up every product that touches your child's skin and look for Avena sativa (the Latin name for oat), hydrolyzed proteins, and goat milk or casein if you've pulled dairy. Patch test anything new on a small spot of unbroken skin before it goes near a flare.

The Dark Matter in Food Shaping Your Brain
Your food contains far more than protein, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, and minerals. Researchers have identified more than 100,000 molecules in food, and most of them never appear on a nutrition label. In this episode of The Empowering Neurologist, Dr. David Perlmutter sits down with his son, Dr. Austin Perlmutter, to explore the "dark matter" of nutrition: thousands of plant compounds called polyphenols. They discuss how these nutrients may influence the gut microbiome, the immune system, inflammation, blood flow, metabolism, and gene expression, and what high-polyphenol diets may mean for memory and the aging brain. Dr. Austin also shares his research on Himalayan Tartary buckwheat and what an early study suggests about epigenetics, cognition, and healthy aging. He offers practical ways to find more polyphenols in everyday foods like coffee, tea, dark chocolate, berries, legumes, and extra virgin olive oil, plus simple tips for identifying better options at the grocery store. You don't need an expensive supplement plan to begin. Adding more natural colors and bitter flavors to your plate can be a meaningful first step.
