Why Diets Keep Failing You: The Genes Behind Carbs, Fat, and Fasting

The plan that finally works is usually the least dramatic one on the shelf. Dr. Gibson walks through a real panel where both the high-carb and the low-carb response come back middling and the fat response comes back low. The answer wasn't an extreme. It was moderate carbs, moderate fat, and higher protein. Plenty of people are failing diets simply because every popular plan pushed them somewhere their genetics were never going to follow. Keto is not one experience, it's two very different ones depending on your panel. Certain FTO variants may make a higher-carb approach harder to handle, while a red ACSL5 can make it tough to burn fat for fuel efficiently. That second one is why some people go all in on fat and get fatigue and brain fog instead of results, then blame their own discipline. Constant hunger is often biology, not weak willpower. HTR2C, LEP, and LEPR can each turn down fullness signaling on their own, and stacked together they can leave that signal genuinely muffled at multiple levels. Once you can see that on paper, protein, fiber, and structured meal timing stop being nice-to-haves and start being the actual plan.

The “Magic Plate” That Ends Diet Culture for Women Over 40

Your Metabolism Isn't Broken — Your Life Just Changed Melissa explains that what women often blame on a "broken" metabolism is really the result of aging, motherhood, and accumulated stress — not a biological malfunction. Letting go of a 20-year-old body ideal is part of the process. The Magic Plate Method Replaces Tracking with Structure Rather than counting calories or macros, Melissa's Magic Plate Method balances protein, fiber, and carbs on every plate — flexible enough to use at restaurants, potlucks, or even fast food, giving women food freedom instead of food rules. A Calm Nervous System Is the Missing Piece in Weight Loss Melissa ties sustainable fat loss directly to nervous system regulation — through breathing techniques, walking, honoring rest, and respecting the phase of motherhood a woman is in — rather than pushing harder with intense workouts.

Aliveness at Every Age: Tantra and Midlife Desire with Dr. Elsbeth Meuth

Tantra is not what most people assume. Elsbeth calls it the original yoga of the energetic body, a way of working with your own life force rather than a set of bedroom techniques. When she and I first worked together, the focus was energy, not sex. The most important relationship is the one with yourself. Elsbeth is clear that she cannot connect intimately with anyone else if she is not connected to herself first. In midlife, when so many roles have crowded that connection out, reclaiming it changes everything. Energy and chemistry work together. Elsbeth pairs her tantric practice with hormonal support, and she is candid that both matter. As she puts it, hormones are the chemistry of our emotions, and the energetic work is how she stays in flow on top of that.

Do Normal Labs Mean Normal Health?

Discover why normal lab results do not necessarily explain how you feel. Standard panels only measure what is ordered, and symptoms such as fatigue, poor sleep, weight changes, or brain fog may require a broader look at your health. Understand why trends can matter as much as whether a result falls inside a reference range. Changes in markers over time, combined with your symptoms, lifestyle, and health history, can provide context that a single “normal” result may not show. Learn why personalized care goes beyond ordering more tests. Sleep, nutrition, stress, metabolic health, hormones, body composition, exercise, alcohol use, and quality of life can all help guide which questions and tests are actually relevant.

Hearing Loss, Menopause, and Healthy Aging

Recognize early signs of hearing loss, including difficulty distinguishing speech in noisy environments, ringing or unusual sounds, and changes that may be easy to dismiss. Identifying these changes matters because hearing problems can gradually affect communication, work, and social connection. Understand how aging, menopause, cardiovascular and metabolic health, genetics, medications, and repeated exposure to loud noise may influence hearing. Knowing your possible risk factors can help you decide when hearing protection, screening, or a conversation with your healthcare provider may be appropriate. Learn why addressing hearing loss earlier may help you remain socially engaged and better able to adapt to hearing aids or other support. Hearing loss has also been associated with cognitive decline, depression, and falls, although the mechanisms and direction of these relationships are not fully established.

PANS/PANDAS: Looking Beyond the Infection to the Gut, Brain, and Immune System

Understand why PANS and PANDAS can appear as sudden OCD, tics, withdrawal, anger, mood changes, or other behavioral shifts, and why Melissa believes families should look beyond a single infection or psychiatric label. Discover how gut imbalances, infections, inflammation, neurotransmitter activity, and other physiological factors may contribute to a child’s overall symptom picture and why rebuilding foundational health is central to Melissa’s approach. Know why a detailed history, targeted testing, and individualized care can help parents connect symptoms that may otherwise seem unrelated and give them a clearer framework for discussing their child’s needs with practitioners.

The Better Question: What If Menopause Isn’t a Decline, But a Rebirth?

Menopause Is a Rite of Passage, Not a Decline Elayne reframes perimenopause and menopause as a powerful spiritual transition — a shift from giving energy outward through "mothering" to reclaiming that energy for self-discovery and a new sense of purpose. Symptoms Are Signals, Not Sickness Dr. Erika explains that hormonal shifts during perimenopause aren't the root cause of symptoms — they're a signal that underlying systems like the liver, kidneys, thyroid, and thymus gland need support. Healing means addressing those root causes rather than just managing symptoms. True Healing Blends Body, Mind, and Spirit Both women agree that lasting healing happens at the intersection of physical restoration, emotional processing, and spiritual growth — and that setbacks are a normal part of the healing process, not a sign of failure.

Fight-or-Flight to Frequency: A Musician’s Sound Healing Journey After Leukemia—with Gino Castillo

When faced with a life-threatening cancer diagnosis, conventional medicine's aggressive treatments can save your life—but they often leave your body reeling from the toxic aftermath. For professional musician Gino Castillo, a sudden leukemia diagnosis and a subsequent severe fungal infection resulted in multiple major surgeries, a splenectomy, and a partial stomach amputation. He survived the crisis, but realized he immediately needed to "save his life from the treatments" that saved him. He turned to Deeper Healing Medical Wellness Center to undergo comprehensive environmental detoxification and cellular cleansing. In this episode of The Deeper Healing Podcast, host Danielle Howley sits down with Gino to hear his remarkable recovery experience. Gino shares the fascinating turning point in his hospital bed when a simple Tibetan flute track, played by his mother, bypassed his resistant ego and put him into his first deep, restorative sleep in weeks. This opened a doorway into an intensive study of frequency, the quantum physics of sound, and gong therapy. The conversation dives deep into the science of sound healing, explaining why the human body (which is molecularly 99.9% water) acts as a giant antenna that is constantly being "tuned" or "detuned" by the frequencies around us—including harmful environmental EMFs. Danielle and Gino also explore their exclusive clinical collaboration: a low-EMF, wired headphone and iPod package Gino designed in collaboration with Deeper Healing, featuring specially bundled tracks from binaural-beats pioneer Dr. Jeffrey Thompson — meant to help calm the central nervous system, stimulate the vagus nerve through humming, and support the shift from a "fight-or-flight" state toward rest and recovery. Gino's personal recovery experience is shared to offer perspective and information—not as medical advice. Resources: Interested in the Deep Dive Program? The Intelligence of Symptoms Part 1: Fever, Inflammation & Pain

On this episode of Vitality Radio, Jared kicks off a 4 part series challenging the way we think about symptoms. Are fever, inflammation, and pain problems to eliminate, or intelligent responses designed to protect and repair the body? Jared explores why the body creates these signals, what they may be trying to accomplish, and what can happen when we automatically suppress them. He examines fever and immune response, inflammation and tissue repair, pain as protective communication, and the widespread use of acetaminophen, NSAIDs, and opioids. You'll also hear the troubling history of Vioxx and OxyContin and why understanding the cause behind a symptom matters. This episode offers a different framework – listen to what your body is telling you before simply trying to silence the signal.
