Digestion

Digestion is the process by which the body breaks down food into smaller, absorbable components that can be utilized for energy, growth, and repair. It starts in the mouth with the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food, continues in the stomach with the action of stomach acid and enzymes, and culminates in the small intestine, where nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream. Proper digestion is essential for providing the body with essential nutrients while eliminating waste products. Digestive disorders, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), can lead to symptoms like heartburn, abdominal pain, and altered bowel habits.
