Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a tick-borne illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. It is commonly transmitted to humans through the bite of infected black-legged ticks. Early symptoms of Lyme disease may include fever, fatigue, muscle aches, and a characteristic skin rash known as erythema migrans. If left untreated, the infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system, leading to more severe symptoms. Treatment typically involves a course of antibiotics. Preventive measures such as wearing protective clothing, using tick repellents, and conducting regular tick checks are important in reducing the risk of Lyme disease.
