Muscle relaxers, also known as muscle relaxants, are a class of medications commonly prescribed to relieve muscle spasms, pain, and stiffness. They work by targeting the central nervous system, either at the brain or spinal cord level, to reduce the signals that cause muscles to contract. These medications are often prescribed for conditions such as muscle strains, sprains, and certain musculoskeletal disorders. While muscle relaxers can provide short-term relief, they may also have side effects, including drowsiness and dizziness, and can be habit-forming if used for an extended period.
