Topic
The parasympathetic nervous system is one of the two main divisions of the autonomic nervous system. It acts as a counterpart to the sympathetic nervous system, promoting a "rest and digest" response. When activated, the parasympathetic nervous system slows down heart rate, promotes digestion, and allows the body to conserve energy. It is responsible for maintaining homeostasis and supporting bodily functions during periods of relaxation and non-stressful situations.
