Introduction and Dental Background 0:00
Well, Dr. Gerry Curatola this. I'm so excited to have you on this segment of integrative cancer solution with Dr. Karlfeldt on me. We we met, about a month or so ago for the first time. And then I fell in love with. Yeah. With him. So fell in love with everything. You are you know, you're you're awesome. Yeah. Y'know Dr. Karlfeldt Yeah. That was so, so, so awesome. So, one of the things and you've. You've dealt with teeth. For how long now? 40 years. 40. I had my 40th anniversary. it's actually more than most of the doctors who are working with me.
Hold. I've been practicing longer than they're alive. So it's 40 years. And, it's kind of amazing how quickly things went. And I was looking at the progression of my practice from when I first came out 40 years ago to now, and the trends in health care and how dentistry and medicine really do need to come back together. Yeah, because you can't really separate the two. I mean, because what's going on in the mouth is impacting the rest of the body. And you're I mean, you're seeing, you know, research after research, you know, the different different the different pathogens that originates in the mouth and where they end up, you know, like in the heart, in the, you know, blood vessels and, you know, it's everywhere.
Yeah. You know, one of the most shocking studies that were recent, I think it was 2020 or 2021, the number one bacteria found in colorectal tumors was feces, bacterium, nucleate, and one of the most common bacteria from the mouth, the most common. And we used to think like the bacteria only get in through the bloodstream if your gums are bleeding, but they go right down the digestive tract. So, you know, and they, you know, they caused all kinds of havoc from Crohn's disease to ulcerative colitis.
We have Klebsiella pneumoniae, bacteria, another, you know, nasty bug, but found in the mouth. It's been directly connected to colorectal tumors. I mean, I'm sorry, ulcerative colitis. So as an individual, you know, they they, they deal with cancer and they, you know, the the last thing they're thinking about is their mouth. You know, they they're focusing on that tumor. Right. And, you know, how important is it to kind of start looking at the mouth as a contributing factor in that journey? Well, you know, what's interesting is conventional cancer treatment does absolutely nothing.
to address the fact that chronic inflammation,
Mouth Health and Systemic Disease 3:08
of which gum disease, for example, is the body's number one source of chronic low grade inflammation and conventional, you know, Sloan-Kettering, they're not they're not even looking they're they're like, let's get you on the chemo, on the radiation. Let's get you scheduled for surgery. And so when you know the type of medicine that you practice is root cause, and that's that's a game changer, because if you look at root cause medicine, what we like to call functional medicine or biologic medicine, we realize that toxicity and inflammation are behind the dysbiosis that, you know, and parasites are a major, you know, a major I would say root cause if not co-factor in the cancer process. And excuse me, one of the things that that we know now is that parasites are opportunistic organisms that are always in the body.
We're always cleaning up from them. But when we have opportunistic places for parasites to hide, like junk habitations, root canals, tooth extraction sites, these types of things, you realize that you're never going to be able to have your immune system regulate and deal with that. if you do not address these areas in the mouth. I just had a woman come from, Europe, and she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she suspected she had cavitation, and a cone beam was taken over there. She sent it to me in New York.
There were these giant areas, cavitation patients where her third molars were, excuse me, were extracted, and she was going for regular dental cleanings. And all of that wisdom teeth taken out about 20 years ago. And these large areas of necrotic bone that didn't heal, were very suspicious. she had already she had several lumps on her breast. She decided to pursue a holistic naturopathic functional medicine route. She was under the care of or beginning care with a doctor in Germany and when she came over, we treated the cavitation.
And the next day she felt the lumps on the side of her breast go down. And she's like, I can't believe this. I already feel a difference. And I said, well, you know, that happens a lot of times because your body wants to heal, you know, biologic medicine is based on the principle that we have this divine life force that gives us the capacity to regulate and heal, and it goes off the tracks when there are blockages. And they're on five different levels, right? Biologic level, parasites. We're talking about things, we have, biochemical, pathways.
Right. And estrogen to start all kinds of hormonal pathways that have to regulate, and we have estrogenic toxicity, like BPA, you know, which is in plastic water bottles, but they're also in tooth colored fillings, BPA. And then you have, the third level is, energetic pathways. So we talk about meridian and energy flow in the body. And the fourth level psycho emotional. The hardest thing for a cancer patient, I believe, is to handle the psycho emotional stress that's associated with that. People don't understand that fear and anxiety.
take our body out of parasympathetic mode, which is essential for healing and regeneration, and it pushes it into sympathetic mode, which is also known as fighting, fight or flight. So I always tell people the first battle is the battle in your mind. Before the battle in your body. And what is over. That battle in the mind is one of the most essential components that you and I both agree upon, and that is the spiritual component of understanding our connection, to a higher power and that that's, you know, this energetic field, you know, of the body, that connection, to source is like, what gives the car the genius?
It's like plugging the Tesla in the wall to recharge. So I always try and have people understand that the regulation is on those five levels. And if they really understand and accept that and are not blocked, you know, like, oh, I don't believe in that stuff now, you can't not believe in it. Mind, body spirit is not a cliche. It's a reality. We are, you know, we have a spirit body, a mental consciousness, that body. And then we have a physical body. And sometimes I find that some of the cancer patients that I treat, I love, it's almost like a ministry, you know, and when I speak to them, it's really about helping them understand that the keys are there
Root Causes in Cancer and Biologic Medicine 9:08
and they they really have to do the deep dive and they'll be a better person coming through it. They'll be stronger. I feel like, you know, when I was a little kid, my mother used to say, you know, Gerald, there's nothing that happens in your life, you know, that doesn't go across God's desk. You know, she was a God fearing woman, you know, wonderful person. incredible faith. And she taught me a lot about that. And, I used to think God had this big desk with this creature. He. A lot of kids papers going through his desk.
You know, that's that's that would be a big desk. So I was like, okay, mom, you know, it helped me realize, you know, what she was saying is there are no accidents. There's a plan and purpose for everything in our life from before at the time we're born, no matter what challenge, no matter what adversity, no matter how impossible it seems, you know? You know, she used to say, with God, it's always possible, you know, with all these possible. That's probably why there's very few atheists in shelters, you know, like the expression, the expression goes, you know, so I think, you know, people, you know, for years when I came out of dental school, I was like, there's such a connection between what's going on here to what's going on in the rest of the body.
Why am I why are we not teaching that more in dental school? You know, and unfortunately, the American, you know, dental education is very mechanically driven. You know, we become really good mechanics of teeth rather than physicians of the mouth. So I'm happy. I'm actually thrilled to be on this podcast with you, but I'm thrilled to work with you, Michael, because it's impossible to get the body healthy without getting the mouth healthy and vice versa. Yeah. And and the like you're saying is that the body wants to heal.
Yeah, we're we're meant to be healthy. We're meant to be vibrant. And so when that is not taking place, when we're dealing with something like a cancer, then we need to then exactly have these five levels. You need to then assess and see, you know, where do I have dysregulation. What where is my power stolen. Right. You know. And right. And being able what what do I strategically need to to do and like like the mouth for instance. I mean we're you're looking at the spiritual the emotional, the mental and physical and, you know, all all these things.
But what's what's fascinating with the mouth is that a lot of people, they always think, well, I don't have any pain, I don't have any, you know, so I don't I don't feel so my teeth got to be good because I can feel anything. I don't, you know, I of discomfort. Right. And the only done. Yeah yeah. Yeah. Or they went to their local dentist, a local dentist. You look great. Everything's great because they don't really know. Unfortunately, most dentist were not trained to understand, you know the 3D can't be and how to read that.
What are the chronic sources of toxicity and inflammation in the mouth, by the way, there's two booklets that are digital that I have that I'd like to send to you, for, for to all of your listeners that will get these, booklet one is on the top ten sources, chronic inflammation and toxicity in the mountains. I wrote this about all the ten sources, and then the other one is on cavitation. What they are, why they're important. You and the. It's the protocol I created ten years ago for the resolution of these chronic areas of infection and inflammation that are often what we call stealth infections.
So in 1996, in 97, I did a, it was a certificate program and Harvard Medical School by a doctor, David Eisenberg, in complementary and Alternative medicine. And in 96, in 97, that was the hot term, and it was called camp Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Then it became integrative medicine. Then Jeffrey Bland, it became functional medicine. And really I went from the functional medicine or the complementary medicine to taking the deep dive in biologic medicine and understanding what that was.
But what was interesting, when I went to this program, I was the only dentist in the program, and they were all like, what are you doing here? And I'm like, well, this is connected to this. And, so yeah, we have to, we have to really, bring the mouth back into the mainstream of what's going on in, you know, the father of the mouth Body Connection, a book I wrote, about 4 or 5 years ago. called The Mouth Body Connection. believe it or not, so many dentists love reading that book because it's a lot of stuff they didn't learn in dental school.
But one of the other interesting things is the father, who I call the father of the mouth body connection, who is also the Charles Darwin of Nutrition. His name was Weston Price, and in 1913 he gave a lecture to the Saint Louis Dental Society, that was entitled The Relationship of Mouth Infection to Systemic Disease. And they scoffed at him. They ridiculed him. They said there was no basis for that. And he I mean, he was a dentist and he was traveling to all these kind of far off places and really looking at their the quality of people's teeth and correlating with their lifestyle and how they're eating.
And, you know, we gained a huge amount of information in regards to what's true health and nutrition is from that. The most fascinating part. He wrote a seminal work in the 1930s called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. Everyone should read that. It's a fascinating, it's a bit of a tome. It's like this thick, but it goes into looking at how more civilized diet started to propagate. You know, the problems we see in society today, malformations of the jaws and disease and debilitating lives and even cancer.
As a matter of fact, seven types of cancer. And but to me, the most interesting thing that he wrote that book based on his anthropological work around the world through the late early 1900s, 1920s, he he actually, started to postulate about epigenetics and the fact that you don't mess up your body, you messed up your genes and that genetic expression in subsequent generations is affected by that damage. That's why I am always horrified by people that go for double mastectomy, because they have the broncho gene and that we can fix our genes, people, we can fix our genes.
And it's not, you know, the imprimatur of what you are going to have for the rest of your life. It means you inherited something that, is unfortunate, but it was probably from subsequent generations, just like Weston Price postulated. But the idea that we can repair our genes is something that's not being talked about enough. I mean, and that that is a kind of a part of the evolutionary process. and that doesn't that doesn't leave God out of the picture. It just means that we have the flexibility to adjust based upon the environment and based upon the lifestyle and the choices we're making.
Five Levels of Healing and Mind-Body-Spirit 17:28
And with that, we can either hand the next generation a better starting point. Or a. Starting point, depending on what we're choosing to do. Exactly. You know, and, I mean, if you really want to look at it biblically, you know, the blessings passed from generation to generation to generation. And unfortunately, the sins of a generation can pass down. And that sin could be, you know, the neglect of the body or the mistreatment of the body, which is a temple. You know, we're in this tend to the body and where we're meant to be vibrant and healthy, and we're genetically programed by God to live to at least 120 and yet we see this damage and decay.
That happens because a lot of that is societal and environmental, but some of it is lifestyle, some of it is emotional damage, psycho emotional damage and anger and and and and, hurt and, so many I'm not, you know, we were talking about this at the conference together with, Doctor Bernie Siegel, who was a wonderful man. I was at the Harvard program when I read this book, Love Medicine and Miracles and how he just looked as a medical doctor and who was doing good with cancer, who was it? And recovering and spontaneous remission and all these amazing things and who, unfortunately, was struggling and not progressing.
And we found that the people who address disease as surely a physical thing, they unfortunately will not do as well as those who understand the holistic nature of everything that happens in and on our bodies. And so, yeah. And really and the first thing I say, you know, when I treat a patient for, you know, dental toxicity and their struggling with systemic issues, especially cancer, I have three patients with cancer in the practice today, all doing remarkably better after eliminating toxicity and inflammation in the mouth.
And it's all these encouraging because I spend a lot of time with them. You know, even pray with these patients because I really want them to understand that they're not alone in this process and that, yes, it's scary, but you know, faith is a gift, and it's something that you just don't decide that it's something that you ask for, you know, it's something that you pray for, and it's the substance of things. You know that. You know it. It's it's it's faith is believing in that which we can't see.
And it's the substance of things that we hope for. And that's the power, the divine power that God has given us to manifest, to really manifest health, vibrant health and longevity. So I you know, I love that book by Bernie Siegel and, and I share a lot. I, and I read that in 1996 or something like that. A few years back, his son came to me as a patient and, and I said his name was, but it was Bernard or something like and, and I said, are you related to the Bernie? And he said, I'm his son. And I said, please tell your father.
And he actually called me, he called me. I had a great talk with him, but he's a man who was really stuck in medicine. Not really. He he came he became a believing person because of what he witnessed. And and that's really what's so needed because, I mean, unfortunately, you know, the world doesn't offer a lot of hope these days. You know, it's what's the next you going to drop, you know, and I find that the work that we do and with our patients is about being polite, instilling hope. And that's part of that path.
That's part of the process. And when they go, I don't know why I got this. I said, well, maybe you got this so that when you, you, you will be a testimony and a great witness to other people of the gifts that God has given us, that we just have to know how to take care of, just like the guy who's praying, who's up, who's like trying to win lotto. And he's like, you know, praying to win lotto, praying to win lotto. And finally, the voice from Heaven comes and says, Stan, first you gotta buy a ticket.
You know, it's like, yeah, you know, you can pray to get well, but if you don't understand the five levels, that's the buying the ticket part. If you don't understand those five level clean up your mouth, get rid of toxicity and inflammation in the mouth. You know, deal with colossal dysregulation. You know, make sure that there are energy in it. What's interesting about meridian flow is every tooth is connected to a meridian. So if you have heavy metals like mercury, what we call amalgam fillings, which are 52% mercury, BPA, composite fillings, cavitation, root canal, you're not breathing because you have a collapsed airway.
These are all essential to live. So and they block meridian flow. So when you take the heavy metals out, you flip that energetic switch back, you know, from every tooth to every organic system in the body. And then, you know, of course, we spoke a lot about psycho emotional and spiritual, but those are all so key. That's the buying the ticket part of like, God help me when a lot of and I love that. Yeah. Yeah I know that's and that's so yeah it's like during Katrina, you know or somebody, you know, I'm praying that God saved me in the helicopter came and said, no, no, God's going to save me.
Yeah. Don't dumb don't pick me up. I'm waiting for God to save me. It's the same thing, you know? You. Yeah, you gotta do. You gotta do the. You're going to do the work. And so, and that's the thing, what I see a lot of times is that you have, you got all these five parts, but each part impact the other part. So meaning that. Yeah. When, you know, when you're dealing with dental infections, for instance, that can impact your ability to connect spiritually. So you gotta look at all levels in order to be able to kind of maximize each level.
And so with that, the dental aspect, I mean, what should people let's say they get cancer and now they they need to figure out what should I do with my I mean, my mouth is part of the the equation, you know, right. What should be their process and evaluating and seeing what needs to be done and and get that done. Yeah, that's a great question. So the first thing and one of the most, telling diagnostic tools and by the way, I read these all day long, people can have these taken. It's a 3D cone beam style cone beam which is a like it's called Ccbc.
It's a, you know, cone beam, computerized tomography. So it's very low exposure radiation, kind of like in 3D X-ray, but it gives us so much information and they can actually get it on a disc or a jump drive.
Diagnostics: Cone Beam Scans and Oral Toxicity 24:58
And they, they Fedex them to me in New York. And I read them and I do a virtual consult and I'll be like, you have this, this, this, this. And I mean, that one test gives me a huge amount of information and I can tell them in a in almost immediately how many things they have going on wrong. in their mouth I could see root canals, cavitation, so I could see, airway issues, heavy metals. I could see so many different things. we're actually working on a, a little app for taking, photographs of the inside of your mouth with a handheld iPhone.
And, that gives you some information that can't be sent 3D Ccbc. And if you get that taken, I read these and I'm actually training. I'm doing a course to train other dentists to read this, because most of them don't know how even the oral surgeons who get these 3D machines, they get them to see if there's enough room for an implant, for dental implant to go in, because there are obviously important landmarks, like the canal in the lower mandible, which has the main nerve and the sinuses on the upper, and all but they don't read it for biologic reasons, they don't read it for toxicity and inflammation.
And that's what we do. We we read it for that. We screen the patient for that and we advise them what they can do. So and that's something I can send to you as well. because that's a very, very valuable task. Now, fortunately, these 3D count beings have they used to be very, very expensive like mid thick figure, you know, acquisitions which a lot of dentists unfortunately, you know, wouldn't make that investment. But they've come down. And so they're now about $100,000 to get this machine. And and it reads the whole mouth in 3D.
So more dentists have it even though they don't know how to use it. And they're not biologically minded. At least they have it. So patients can get there and get that take. And that's the first thing that anyone, should get to ensure that there are no underlying, toxicities. And if, for example, one of the worst and most toxic dental procedures ever done is a root canal, and we used to think root canals were great. You know, we save teeth. Root canals are loaded with, parasites. They're they they just regulate the immune system.
So many root canals have been associated with cancer. And so I had a patient two weeks ago who came in, and, she brought in a cone beam that she had taken. And I sat down with her, and I put it up and on the first molar on each side, which is connected to the breast, the right breast and the left breast, there were huge infections, huge cavitation around the root canals. One had the one on the left side had blown into her sinus. So she had infection in her sinus from this root canal. And then she'd been going, I mean, let me just say she had been going to the dentist regularly.
And the first thing I said is, do you have any problems with your breast? And she looked at me and said, I just had a double mastectomy. And, and they found it and they found a cancerous tumor on my left breast and my right breast. I was getting cystic conditions and they advised taking, doing a double mastectomy. And I was like, I was crestfallen because I said, you had the mastectomy, but the one of the root causes is still in your mouth. I really recommend you address this because there's things that, you know, you and I, we're at the conference where a big topic was cancer stem cells like breast cancer stem cells.
So yes, she had double mastectomy. But guess what? You you were stage three or she was stage three or stage four and and you had lymph lymph node involvement. And and so God knows where those cancer stem cells are. Let's get the body able to regulate and and to heal. So I was really you know, she was totally blown away because she had come out. A friend of hers said, you know, you got to look at dental toxicity as a, as a root cause of all this. And, I mean, I, I just couldn't believe it. And there are so many root canals being done.
And I have one of my buddies is is one of the top root canal specialists of New York. And he's a great guy. And, you know, we both have gone to football games together, you know, where we're friends. And, and he's not talking to me now because I have come down so hard on Root Canal. I used to go, well, short term, you know, a root canal can be stable for a short term. But, you know, when they start to fail, the here's the deal about root canal. Just everybody understands. I mean, it's the only procedure we do in dentistry or we do in medicine.
Excuse me, where we keep something dead inside. We don't do re canals on femurs, gall bladders, appendix. You know, we take it out. We take it out the tooth. You got to take it out. If it's sitting in an abscess, take it out. The only time that I think a root canal would be stable for a very immediate short term if, if, let's say, a nerve is exposed from a deep cavity and there's no evidence of an abscess, then I would say, okay, that root canal might be successful, might be effective for 5 to 7 years.
But what we see is that over those 5 to 7 years, 100% of the treated teeth start to produce endotoxins, which are bacterium by terrible bacterial byproduct. What else are endotoxins? Endotoxins are source chronic and inflammation. What else do and the toxins do they dis regulate the immune system. So your your immune system is not functioning optimally. What does the oral microbiome in the mouth do? It's intricately connected with stratifying and regulating your immune system. You don't have a healthy mouth.
You do not have a healthy immune system. That's the crazy thing. Everybody thinks, oh, it's the God, it's the God, it's the god. Just biases in the gut and imagine, yes, the God is the big brother of the oral microbiome, the gut microbiome. Absolutely. You know, we have everything from neurotransmitters to the brain and, you know, all kinds of regulation that goes on by the gut microbiome. It really is the brain. You know, you're up. What's up here in the gray matter is, is a network board. You know, the gut is your brain.
What's what's which. Even more fascinating, Michael, is the fact that I believe our connection to the cosmos or, microbes. I spoke about that when I gave my talk, because I was really fascinated by the fact that in Genesis chapter two, verse seven, it says, God took from the dust of the earth, and he breathed his spirit in it. And we became mind, body, spirit beings. Well, he didn't really take from the dust. It was called the loosely translate it in the Aramaic and the Hebrew Torah. In the Torah is slime God took from the slime of the earth. Most of scientists agree wholeheartedly that the Earth was covered with microbial slime before man walked on this planet, and so God took from microbial slime.
The intelligence and information in that slime
Root Canals, Cavitations, and Infection 32:58
became engulfed in a cytoplasm, a nucleus outside of plasm tissue organ systems. we are made from microbes and the microbes that physically exist on our butt in and on our bodies. Right now, most scientists agree, outnumber our human cells by 10 to 1. here, 7 to 1 to 10 to 1. And the genetic information of those microbes is 100 times the genetic information of our own, of our own cells. So you're dealing with a lot more genetic information, a lot more direction, a lot more regulation and control that happens by those microbes.
The oral microbiome is an intelligent, semi-permeable membrane that transports molecular oxygen to the gum tissue to oxygenated. It takes ionic oxygen or free radicals away from the cancer. It transports minerals from saliva like ionic minerals like calcium and phosphorus, which is what I draw. The appetite is made of. It transports it from saliva to the surfaces of teeth. So your teeth can read mineralized. The microbes help your teeth re mineralized. That is in direct contradiction to what I learned 40 years ago in dental school, which was bacteria cause to carry bacteria, cause gum disease and this that they just didn't understand that it's not about the seed, it's about the soil, the terrain, and it's about the balance of that.
And that's why you naturopaths have had it right all along. You know, you you've had it right all along. It's not about the seed. It's about the soil. And the soil in the mouth is rich and diverse, and it protects you from deadly viruses and bacteria in the environment around us. Conversely, when it's out of balance, it is linked to everything from Alzheimer's to colorectal cancer, gum diseases link to Alzheimer's disease. Gum disease is linked to pregnancy complications. Gum disease is linked to type two diabetes, stroke and everything.
There's seven different types of cancer. So and we looking at like, yeah, you have the root canals and what people don't understand. So you have this dead material, you have this infection that grows there. And it's it's a sealed area. So the immune system can't really get into there. So it creates this frustration and draining of energy of the immune system energetically. Yeah. It's it's like. Crazy thing is this people go I went to my dentist and every year I tell him this tooth doesn't feel right.
And he takes an X-ray and he goes, no, it looks perfect. And I'm like, you know, rule number one in my office, I have I have these two rules, you know, rule number one, always listen to the patient and and rule number two is if you, if you disagree, reread rule number one. Like listen to the patient, no matter how out there. And I had a patient today, had I treated her cavitation and she said to me, doctor, I can't thank you from New Hampshire. And I get a follow up. By the way, I took out two root canals and I had the two.
I always do the pathology study of what's on them, and I have every organism that showed up on a on a bioenergetics scan. This German, it's called cyber scan and it does a whole analysis of pathogens that are on there. And I said to her, Sandra, you know, number 19, the root canal in that parasite from the sample that we took in the bone. But it also had parasites in the tooth itself, and it had antibiotic resistant bacteria, because every time she said it, her the dentist would throw an antibiotic at her like it was going to, you know, it was going to, you know, do magic.
And and so all it did was make superbugs. You know, and she had vancomycin. How about this vancomycin resistant bacteria, which is one of the big guns, as you know, it's a big gun. if you're resistant to that, you're pretty much a sitting duck except for 1 or 2 super, super big guns. But, you know, as I say, you know, my my microbiome commandments are one. We're made of microbes. Two, the microbes run us. We don't run them. Three if you go to war with your microbes, you're going to lose. They actually have been you know, they paid a high evolutionary price to be on the planet.
and they've been here before us. And, by God's design, I'm sure. And and the interesting thing is, if you go to war with them, not only will you lose, but you end up with antibiotic resistance. And that's how we created Mersa and all this stuff. And, and number four, you know, if you want to live, make peace with your microbes. And I had those four, you know, I had it in the lecture I gave for the, for microbiome commandments. And so this woman had all this stuff around and she said to me, doctor, I've never had this much energy and I can't tell you how long.
She said, I kept going to the doctor and saying, I just don't, I can't, I don't, I can't even get out of bed. I'm so tired. She said it was, and you're not going to believe me. But it was an exercise for me to put clothes on it. For one. And she said, I know that sounds crazy, but it was like arduous to put clothes on. And she said, I can't tell you how much energy I have. And, and she said they wanted to put me on antidepressants. That's what they were going to give her antidepressants. And I've heard that over and over.
They just think they don't listen to the patient, and they think the patient's crazy and and they don't look it in the mouth. No, no. Yeah. It and it's, I mean, and that's the sad part right there is that you, you have by not looking at the root cause and only doing management. So, you know, you do, you know, control the symptoms. All you're doing is that you're suppressing layer upon layer of compensatory energy in the body and correct the body. Then after a while it just kind of gives up to communicate.
And then so now you have no idea really what's going on. There's no appropriate signaling. And that's when you set yourself up for failure, for things that are, you know, like cancer, like, you know, something that is very, it's very hard to, you know, turnaround from. Yeah. I mean, that's why today, you know, they they put a quote, they put a clip on my Instagram site at Rejuvenation Health. and I talked to Jerry Villa. They took a clip from the lecture that I gave on Root Canal, and they put it up and my Instagram has apparently exploded.
I think I'm going to be up till three in the morning answering questions. That's the downfall. You know, I got a call and I was like, you better answer some of these. And I was like, I was talking about root canal and that it is the worst dental procedure ever developed. And you know what the crazy part is? There's 21 or 25 million root canals done every year in the United States. And it's expensive. You know, most root canals are like 2500 to 3500 bucks. And it is a flawed procedure. That is the cap.
If you have cancer and and you have I mean, the first thing I would do, God, if I, God forbid, you know, had a serious, life threatening illness, the first thing I would do is get my root. I all my root canals are gone. And by the way, I had four root canals because I went through great. I had two root canals when I was in college by an incompetent dentist. And so I tell everybody, I'm not just the, what is it? My hair club commercial. I'm not just the president of the hair club. I'm also a customer.
I'm not just a dentist. I'm a dental patient, too. And I had all my root canals out, and, they were nasty. They were nasty. One of the root canals had a file in the sign as it was horrific. Broken file and the tooth. The guy was a barbarian. And I was in my first year of college. but at any rate, the first thing I would do is take my root canals. So that's the first thing everyone should do. And the reason I say that with, with uncertainty is that there's enough physiological research that I've looked at to show that root canals are a chronic source of endotoxin production.
They do not work long term. They will fail. They will everything dead in the body. Necrosis. So even taking root canals out is arduous. But the the surgeon and the dental surgeon and the dentist, because they crumble, because they literally decay. Dying in the human jaw and they're black. Sometimes the bone is black around them because they've been dead and in the mouth for 20 years. For some people or more. And so and the thing is, like when you're 20 years old, I mean, so, so people are thinking, well, I've been fine all this time.
But when you have the youth on your side, you're able to kind of use that vitality a lot of times to kind of overcome a stressor. But as you start to age and you have less of that vitality,

you know, the the impact is just going to accumulate and be more and more. Yeah. So but, one thing, you know, that's important is that when you have, like you were talking about, you know, the bone was black. So it's not just kind of getting rid of the root canal. You got to look at what you're talking about, the cavitation. You got to clean up all that infection appropriately. That's exactly right. And so we have a protocol that we use. We treat we treat root canal infections the same way we treat cavitation.
We use a laser. So the laser is wonderful because it doesn't generate trauma like a dental drill on human bone or on a tooth. Right. Because a dental drill generates friction and heat and it can be traumatic, and causes pain and swelling, especially when you're doing bone surgery. so what we use is a laser, which is, an erbium wavelength of light that with a wavelength is wonderful because it does three things. It is very kind to the tissue, to the bone, the hard tissue. the second thing it does, it's very effective that disinfecting, disinfecting the tissue, disinfecting the bone.
We often use a lot of ozone. We use ozone water, ozone gas. But the laser with the ozone. And then the third thing that the laser does is after disinfecting, there's another setting and it's called boundary claudication. And what that does is it activates the bone to regenerate and grow back. But what we also do and what's really important is we take, blood from the arm and we spin it down and we separate something called platelet rich fibrin or PRP. And Prep actually has stem cells from the patients, has mesenchymal stem cells.
And we will use that with some bone mineral to graft the area so that there is a scaffold for your body to make bone and for that to heal thoroughly. If you don't graft very often, the bone doesn't grow all the way back. It'll start to grow. But what we know now with bone metabolism is you need a scaffold, right? You have to approximate the bone to each other. And if you can't do that by approximating the bone together, then you create a scaffold. And then the cells that make new bone, the osteoblasts grow across that scaffold.
And then the scaffold comes down because of the resorption that's created by osteoblasts. So we have osteoblasts make new bone osteoclasts take graft away. And that creates a very healthy normal bone response. The other extraordinary part of that, like this woman I was on the phone with today, is some patients almost immediately see, I mean, I've had people tell me I had a woman who came, from up in Maine. She came down to to New York. She had several really bad cavitation, two really infected root canals.
We treated that. And, she was staying for a few days because we usually give patients some follow up care and we get them some nursing care, I.V. drips, recovery drips, things like that. We have some energetic lymphatic drainage types of, equipment that we use. And, what's interesting is we have an apartment at one at our office in Fenton. We have an apartment for patients to stay in, but the apartment is up one walk up, a little flight of stairs. There is an an elevator, and it's an older building.
It's a beautiful apartment, older building, but a flight of stairs. And her husband said, I don't know if she can get up the stairs. You know, she uses a cane and it's hard for her or osteoarthritis. It's terrible. I treated her that same afternoon. She threw the cane away. They were in tears. The next day she went up the flight of stairs, one foot after the other, without the cane. She has never used the cane again. And, And, you know, it really is, you know. Did I heal her? Not. I didn't heal her.
She used that God given ability to heal herself. Doctors don't heal patients. You heal you. All we do is help to eliminate what's blocking that divine capacity to self-regulated heal. So she did that. She and her husband were in the office the next morning. I didn't know about any of this. And they both had fears and I'm thinking, oh, my energy and pain, what's going on? This and that? And she's like, you're not going to believe this. She actually got through, came away. She said, I and the her ankle, she had the swelling in her ankles went right down.
I had another patient today talked to me about the, the,

osteoarthritis in her arm and her wrist and totally gone. So when you it's not magic. The body wants to regulate and heal. You eliminate the chronic source of the chronic inflammation, the toxicity. The body does what it's supposed to do. Yeah, exactly. I, I couldn't say it better. Yeah, well, Gerry, Dr. Gerry, this been awesome. It's been incredible. And I and I really hope you know, and I, I don't think there's any question the importance of what's going on in the mouth. And, and obviously we talked about a lot of things as well.
But you know, the importance of really kind of doing an investigation what's going on in the mouth by somebody that is competent. And I know you have a whole team of doctors that you're trained and, and, and I've, you know, we're, I, I'm going to be part of that network and make sure that, you know, that. Absolutely. Yeah. We're versa. We need we need each other. And, I mean, I have patients all the time that are, you know, that are struggling and they're being very, discouraged by, the conventional approach because, they're not getting better.
They're getting worse. And, you know, even I, you know, I have physicians, in the family, my brother, my niece, and, and they're like, you know, they they don't even talk to us about the mouth in medical school. And, and we gloss over it and like, two days. Yeah. It's, It's it's crazy. Yeah. Well, thank you so much for. My. Pleasure. Time and for all the work that you do. God bless you. Thank you, thank you. Thank you, thank you. Michael. Take care. Thanks.
