Opening Thanks and Context 0:00
Hey everybody, it's Dr. Remka. If you're watching this, thank you. Either on my email newsletter list, or on social media, you may be in my stories, maybe you are watching my YouTube. I really, really appreciate it. And you've been with me for a lot of years, I've up and down in many, many ways. Something you have seen me go on a rant about before was Special Olympics.
Special Olympics Appreciation and Past Frustration 0:24
and I got really mad at them last year. Now I'm still kind of mad, but I am going to tell you something. I also love the Special Olympics. I was a Special Olympic soccer coach for four straight years in college. It's one of those things that I always say, God, one day I want to get back to it. One day, I wanna get to back it whenever I can have some free time, right? Whenever I have extra money, whenever have something I could do, they're always on my donation list. And now that they've gotten a little bit older and more mature and there's always a bit extra of money.
Nephew Kyle's Special Olympics Journey 1:00
They get my money because of the impact they had in my life. And I watched the effect they have in these children's lives. Little did I know when I was in college doing that for years and falling in love with these and crying and watching them transform me, watching then give me more, way more than I giving them, that one day my nephew would be a special Olympian. So my Nephew, Kyle, competes in three Special Olympic events, and he's been doing it for quite a few years. And last year, we really struggled because there was a whole ticketing and tinging cupcake kind of controversy that they were dealing with.
But my sister and I have had to let some of our feelings go because Kyle loves it. Kyle is all about it, he shines and thrives, doing quite few things. He plays different sports. It's pretty amazing. Wow, I am super proud of my nephew, Kyle, and we'll try to be splicing the picture or something like that for those of you don't know.
Community Differences and Team Pride 2:06
He's up in Michigan, he's Lapeer County, which is a very small kind of country county. And they're right next to another county, Genesee County who has big plants and factories in the UAW and they got big bank money. In this little country Hoboken town, they don t have anything. So when they roll up to the Special Olympics, whole big thing, these people are like in their matching track suits and they're matching bags and all the things. And this people, they are real lucky to have matching t-shirts and their really happy about it.
Cause they just don't have the same kind of money. Now, what I'm also super proud about is that they doing a polar plunge fundraising campaign. and my nephew is going to do the polar Plunge. He's gonna cold dunk you guys.
Polar Plunge Fundraiser and Donation Appeal 2:54
So it's like three things I love more than anything, right? My family, Special Olympics, and cold plunging. So I'm sort of proud of him that he's going to take the plunge. He's raising money. I am dropping the link. but I would love for you to consider donating to the Special Olympics using my nephew's link so he could raise a lot more money than he ever anticipated. You know, my sister set the bar at a thousand dollars. I'd like it to be more like $50,000. So show them what you got. If you're so moved by it and the special Olympics or these children with autism, Down syndrome, the whole host of things, if you've never, Seen it.
You should go watch, you should coach, You Should Donate. It's powerful. Please consider donating if it moves your heart. And go Kyle. Thank you.
