Compassion vs. clinical detachment 0:00
doctors are here, this family is crying and having a wonderful moment there has to like scurry out, you know, so I said, You know what are we doing here? We should have just left that family there because they were having A wonderful moments and the person is going to die anyway. Maybe we should gear gear out here towards that instead of wondering like what's their current blood gas and The attending turned to me and gave me such such a look at and everybody turned to me and like gasped and I had to be sent to a psychologist because they thought maybe I wasn't suited for internal medicine.
Really? They thought you needed like some therapy in order to? Well I was one of the few women in the program So to express some kind of compassion without just being objective about their respiratory rate or their blood pressure or the meds that they're on was really frowned upon. Not just frown upon, it seemed like it was pathologized.
