Mike's Medical Background and Accident 0:00
So, everyone always asks us, like, how did Deeper Healing start? And it's kind of a crazy journey. It's a whole wild way to put it. I feel like we're watching a movie and we don't know what's going to happen next because it has just been such a wild ride. Why don' you start with your back story? Well, I started out typical medical school graduate, did a residency in family practice, and was attracted to emergency medicine, spent 22 years in the practice of emergency medicines, loved it, loving to snatch people from the jaws of death on a daily basis.
Then one day, the universe had something else in mind for me. On the way home from a night shift, i was involved in a car accident, then suddenly I became the patient. And everything that I believed about and had faith in, in terms of my medical training and background, suddenly changed. I went to all the traditional doctors, the physiatrist and the neurosurgeon and a neurologist was on all kinds of medications and even had what was supposed to be a minor surgery that ended up in an extreme complication.
Bottom line, all of the medications, physical therapy, surgeries, availed me nothing but gave me an infection in my back and my spine that lasted for six weeks and I was worse off than when I had the accident. I ran into a guy who I used to work with in the ER who had started an anti-aging practice. And he looked at me and he said, Mike, let me give you some IV vitamin C. I looked and I said Mark, I thought you were a doctor. He said I am, what have you got to lose? And sure enough, three infusions later I went out to open my car door and realized for the first time in over two years I wasn't in pain.
And I went, my first thought, believe it or not, was what in the hell did they forget to teach me in medical school?
Discovering IV Vitamin C and Deeper Healing 1:58
And so I spent literally the last 18 to 20 years learning all the things that they didn't teach in me medical schools. And that was the basis for the idea of deeper healing. But I had no way of putting it into action. I didn' have that magic touch. Then one day, in walks Danielle Howley. Oh boy. Okay, my story is crazy. I was married, I had three kids, My husband is 37 years old, and he starts getting very sick. And it was kind of, it's like a slow and steady decline. But for literally 10 years, went to everybody.
Went to the hospitals, went the regular doctors, after a while I realized, okay, they only have drugs in surgeries and he doesn't need that. So then I looked at the functional holistic people and gosh, I don't know how many different people I saw. over the years and tens of thousands of dollars trying to figure out what was wrong. And finally, at the end, just a lot of bad doctoring going on. Marty was doing probably 50 supplements, had done all these strict diets, which is very common. He's now bedridden.
brain fogged, organs shutting down, he's really at the end. And I could see the last doctor we were with, like I saw the fear in his eyes and he was just like, yeah, I think I'm not sure that,
Danielle's Husband's Illness and Recovery 3:40
you know, if there's anything more that can be done for him. I am literally like my God, He's like 47 years old and He was this vibrant, amazing, athletic, fun guy. Now I like am going to be a widow and I have three kids and was like flipping out. And then I was like, well, is there anything out there? Is there any thing that is like just a last ditch effort? And I just deep dove into all the Facebook groups like we all do. And, I think I had finally figured out that I thought he had Epstein-Barr virus.
Even to this day, if you go on WebMD, it says no treatment, no cure, which is so many of the people that we see. And he ended up, I sent him away, sort of created a stay and heal and he had a full recovery in weeks. And I don't mean like he was a little better. I mean, he went and was like playing pickup basketball and like back to work and living and joyful and just completely back from the person that he once was. So shocking, like him and I were literally shocked. We were like, what just happened?
And I remember at the time I was like... I'm gonna heal the world. I have to tell everybody what happened. This is crazy. So, you know, I make this quick YouTube video with my husband, who's totally not social media guy. And I am like, we're gonna put it out in all the groups and we are gonna tell everyone how to get better. and I remember just being like so curious, like why doesn't anybody know about this treatment? Why is this like everyone should know it? Because everyone when we were in the office, It was like Parkinson's, MS, Lyme disease, all these people were getting better.
And I was, like, this is nuts. These are all no treatment, no cure people. So I got a little obsessed thinking, why can't there be a place that has really brilliant practitioners and progressive treatments like this one that like really heal the body and a really nice, loving environment that's healing. Cause I don't know any of you who've been to a lot of doctor's offices. they're not the best. I mean, I had so many bad experiences with just people not caring. Like here I'm coming with a very sick husband and they were just coming back over and over again, spending so much money and, they didn't care.
And I knew it. and I just, hated the experience. So finally, someone in Michigan had said, there's this amazing doctor near you, Dr. Michael Bowerschmidt.
Building the Practice and Sharing the Mission 6:32
He does low dose antigen therapy. It's really amazing and not a lot of doctors know about it and it's very healing. And I was like, oh my God, I don't know this guy. I'm gonna stalk him. So I literally start stalking him, like I am like looking at your background, looking who you are and then I like am just gonna bust in there. come into his office, I pretty much vomited on you. I was like, and we had to do this and the funny thing. Well, the funny thing is that I sat there and listened to her, but I had a witness.
I have my nurse practitioner with me at the time because I said, this woman's either got a brilliant idea or she's off her freaking water. Or she is completely insane. Completely insane, and I realized after talking with her and thinking about it for a while that that was the part that i was missing. i knew what to do.I just didn't know how to let people know that. Yes, I remember that. I know how to heal people, but I don't know to make them understand why it matters. So many of your patients were like, I just want a prescription. You're like we could do it better.
You could be a different person, you could more healthy. And I was like I got you. And then I remember very clearly one of your lines was, I'm either going to do this with you or without you. Oh, that was the other thing. This is going happen. I was convinced. You've got the boxy. Yeah. So I had the passion for it because I like during that time, during the year after I put the YouTube video out. Every day, like every single day my messenger was filled with people. Like, please help me, no one's helping me.
You helped your husband, can you tell me where to go? Can you help find a place to to? I'm in Australia, I am in Kansas. And it took over my life just talking to all these people and I was like, i don't even know where I sent you. Because I barely found the place that we had help and i didn't think they were very good. And then you had all these other modalities that you would designed through the years that were just... That I knew could augment any treatment. Because around here, it's always about everything.
It's not just, oh, I have EBV or I or have Lyme or Parkinson's. And it is always everything because whatever it, is it set off that EBD, whatever is set of that Parkinson. That was the straw that broke your camel's back. But if you think about it, your camel would have been perfectly fine had it not been for all the straw he's already carrying. And if deal with the whole total body burden, then you can, amazing things can happen. That's what's been happening here ever since we opened, and that's why we've gone from one room and one office building to 1,500 square feet to 2,400 square to our new 5,000 square foot space with three practitioners instead of just me.
Yeah, so we have a real good team now. It's gone beyond either our dreams. My wildest imagination. And I really think we're just at the beginning. The need is great. I feel like all the people that we've helped over the past five years We've just grown just by their word of mouth. I mean, they've literally all turned into the old Danielle. Like, I have to help people get better. The people in my group. And thank you for saying yes. Thank you. For saying, yes, and. Then thank. You for stalking. Yeah.
And may we never lose that patient-centric, the thing that I think is the difference is that we have the really smart practitioners, they're really amazing treatments and the love, this center is filled with love. We care deeply about every single person that comes here and it's powerful.
