  • It is a fast you eat through. Renee explains that ProLon’s five-day protocol grew out of Dr. Walter Longo’s research into the cellular effects of fasting. You eat a small, set amount of mostly plant-based food each day, which the company says makes it easier to follow and gentler on muscle than a water-only fast.
  • Built for people who can’t afford to stop eating. Renee says the fasting mimicking diet was first developed for cancer patients who could benefit from fasting but couldn’t go without food or lose muscle. That same design appeals to anyone who finds a water-only fast too drastic, including women whose bodies are already carrying stress.
  • The five-day cycle is used a few times a year. The company recommends one cycle a month for three months when starting, then about every three to four months, with one-day kits to try it out. If you have a health condition, do it with your practitioner, since ProLon is largely shared through clinicians.
