Which Burns More Visceral Fat: Cardio or Weight Lifting?

Jennifer Roelands, MD Perimenopause, Longevity
Cardio vs. strength training — which one should you prioritize after 40?
The answer may surprise you: you don’t need to choose. You need both.
Cardio supports your heart, brain, cardiovascular fitness, insulin sensitivity, and longevity, while resistance training helps protect muscle mass, bone density, strength, metabolism, and functional independence.
As we move through our 40s and beyond, muscle and bone loss become increasingly important concerns. At the same time, cardiovascular and cognitive health remain critical.
That’s why the evidence supports a combination of cardio + resistance training, rather than choosing one over the other.
