Video: Win Against the Challenge of Breast Cancer Stem Cells

All right. So let’s talk a little bit about the core mission and the goals of the Beljanski Foundation. How did all that get started?

Sylvie Beljanski

Oh, so the core mission, as you very correctly said, is a 501 history to fund research. We are not doing our own research ourselves. We are working with a number of academic institutions around the world to carry research with natural compounds. And the goal of the research is to find ways to address cancer and other degenerative diseases without toxicity and without side effects. And over the years indeed we have been quite successful working with a number of reputable institutions like Columbia University or Kansas University Medical Center. We use a number of lethal substances that have proven to be very effective at that I think many cancer cell lines at different stages of the disease. And now we are looking at the cancer stem cells. So that’s a new frontier of research and we are very, very excited.

So why. Oh, go ahead.

Sylvie Beljanski

So how it all started? Well, it all started because, as you said I’m a lawyer and I found myself in a position to fight the French government when the French government tried to wipe out the research of my father, Dr. Mirko Beljanski. Dr. Mirko Beljanski was a Ph.D. in molecular biology, was did his entire career at the Pasteur Institute in Paris France. So it was very, very conventional in his approach at the beginning. But then he found some big differences between natural, between healthy cells, and cancerous cells. He found that the DNA of cancerous cells, whether it’s from animals, plants, or humans, is always different and always with the same kind of difference than healthy cells. The two strands of the DNA, instead of being a nice helix, is kind of distorted with big loops. And my father calls that destabilization of the DNA. And then he said, well, that’s not happened just as a result of a random genetic mutation. It happens because of the environment, mostly. Which affects the DNA, slowly but surely, cumulatively, and induces those kinds of destruction. And at that time back in the ’60s and ’70s, speaking of the environment was most unwelcome. Also when I was going to understand the genome and hope was that genetic research would solve all the problems, which led to a lot of patterns that would turn into many drugs that would be extremely successful and lots of people would become very rich with that. And suddenly you have a scientist at the Pasteur Institute who says, no, no, no, so the environment also plays a very important role. So they fired him from the Pasteur Institute but he went on and he found a number of natural molecules which are able to do exactly the opposite of carcinogens. Those molecules do recognize destabilized cells and they target specifically those cells. And they prevent the duplication, selectively of cancerous cells. So my father published those results, and he got a lot of interest because his selectivity of action means that you do not have to worry about pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, or prostate cancer. So those little extracts target cancerous cells wherever they are located. So a number of French doctors who are very, very interested in this natural, non-toxic approach, and got those number of doctors using that was growing and growing. And one day, now we are in the early ‘90s, the French president Francois Mitterrand was officially diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and it was said that he was not going to finish his second term, the terms were seven years, that’s the time. But Mitterrand had a mistress, who knew about a good doctor with good results with a prostate, to his prostate cancer. And that’s how Mitterrand started to take her Beljanski products. And as we know, he was able to finish his second term. So the French FDA was furious that it was, I mean, so official now that some natural compounds could do better since he approved drugs. For us, of course, you had the politicians who were also furious that they had lost the opportunity to such power because the president was supposed to go missing. And this combination of power and FDA, French FDA, the result was that they sent the military, the French army, a SWAT team to this house, a laboratory, and arrested my father and sprayed the laboratory where my father was with some chemical. And a few months later, my father was dying with chronic leukemia, advanced, meaning with leukemia, I should say. And asked me, you know, leukemia. And that’s why at the beginning, you know, as a lawyer, I started to say, well, this cannot be allowed, we have to do something about that. I took the case to the European Court of Human Rights. We won a unanimous decision because the French government was absolutely unable to explain and provide any rationale for their position, I think. And very quickly I also realized that was not enough. The most important was scientifically let see. So that’s why I created the Beljanski Foundation to carry on with the research. And I have to say that we have been extremely successful with all the publications we have been able to get published over the past 15 years. And just for that, it was definitely worth carrying this legacy.

It’s a beautiful story. I love hearing it every time. Now one of the problems with integrative natural medicine is that there is so little research to back up all these beautiful studies and experiences. The fact that Beljanski Foundation has proven on multiple cancers and multiple studies that these natural extracts target specifically cancer cells and don’t harm the healthy cells. I mean, that is such a powerful thing to have. So tell us a little bit about the Breast Cancer Breakthroughs and the research relating these extracts to breast cancer.

Sylvie Beljanski

So first, let me tell you that indeed the Beljanski Foundation has been able to get an astonishing number of papers published over the past 15 years. It can all be found at Beljanski.org. BELJANSKI dot org. There is also a list of 133 peer-reviewed papers left by my father, and somewhere else on the foundation of the research, there are also new, recent publications that we have mostly in the US with institutions. So indeed over the past few years of collaborations that we were able to establish first at Columbia University show that those little plant extracts called Pao Pereira and Rauwolfia Vomitoria. One coming from the Amazon the other from Africa, are able to target different kinds of cancer cells. We worked on prostate cancer cells, ovarian cancer cells, and pancreatic cancer cells mostly. And we are able also to address different kinds of levels of gravity of the disease. For example for prostate, we have shown that both extracts were able to have an anti-inflammatory activity against prostate benign evaluation and also cancer cells and also advanced cancer cells that do not respond to hormonal treatments. So all the stages. And also we have been able to see that there was a nice synergy of action with chemotherapies, which is also very important. So with Dr. Hall, who is a doctor and director of research at the Beljanski Foundation. We looked at ourselves and we said, well, maybe if we are able to address, all with the different stages of the disease, we maybe look at cancer stem cells because cancer stem cells resist chemotherapies. Doctors generally do not speak of cancer stem cells because they have very little to offer. So they just keep it discreet. They tell you, oh, the tumor is shrinking, you are responding well to the treatment. And in fact, they are not addressing the most aggressive of the cancerous cells which those cancer stem cells. Cancer stem cells sustain the tumor, sustain the blood. And sometimes one year, or ten years, or 20 years later they are able to wake up and create a metastasis. So it is generally after the first treatment that people hear, maybe, you know, you are at risk of receding or metastasis and you should continue chemotherapy or come back for more chemotherapy, which is going to be ineffective. And everybody, everybody should address cancer stem cells from the very beginning, from the time of the diagnosis. It doesn’t make sense if we have something to address them not to do that from the beginning. Don’t wait until after the first treatment to suddenly hear about them and wonder what you can do about that. Why we chose cancer, breast cancer stem cells specifically, is because there are some publications already out there about Pao Pereira and Rauwolfia Vomitoria showing that there is some activity on breast cancer. Also, breast cancer is first cause of death for women when they have cancer. So, it is important to know that one in four women who get cancer gets breast cancer, and one out of six is going to die from breast cancer. So it is very, this is the most prominent cancer in women, and more and more men also getting breast cancer. So we said, why not try breast cancer stem cells? And we already have had some preliminary research, which is very encouraging, with pancreatic cancer stem cells and ovarian cancer stem cells. But this time we are going to do a much bigger study on breast cancer stem cells.

And you just recently hosted an integrative cancer conference in which we raised money for this research.

Sylvie Beljanski

Yes, absolutely. It was in Jacksonville, Florida. It was the first Beljanski Integrative Cancer Conference. We were extremely grateful for all the donors who made a show of generosity. Absolutely something we could not expect. I am so proud, I’m so grateful to be able to report that the study is fully funded and we are about to start this study which I believe is going to change the face of breast cancer.

Absolutely. And that’s why I am so excited about it, because one of the biggest questions that we get in our community is, I’m afraid the cancer is going to come back. What can I do to keep it from coming back? Because whether they’ve done conventional treatments or natural medicine, there’s always that fear in the back of their mind. And so now we have a product, you know, the Onkobel-Pro that I used during my second healing journey and I still use the maintenance protocol, I  still take it every day. That specifically attacks those potential breast cancer stem cells that can cause the recurrence. And when your doctor tells you, you know, you’re cancer-free or there’s no evidence of disease, that’s wonderful in a sense, celebrate that. But at the same time be aware that there are those cancer stem cells, those baby cancer cells that are lurking and those need to continue to be addressed. So whatever you done from a, you know, an integrative, natural point of view, lifestyle changes, it’s important for you to continue to do that and add something as powerful as the Onkobel-Pro to make sure that those cancer stem cells are kept at bay.

And it is important to remember that products like Onkobel-Pro are not toxic. So it is not going to create side effects that are going to impair your quality of life. This is something that you can do for a very long time, actually.

And, you know, you brought out a point that several natural extracts do this too is that they actually support the effectiveness of chemotherapy agents and reduce the side effects at the same time. Have you found that with your products?

Sylvie Beljanski

Yes, absolutely. So the synergy of action between Pao Pereira and chemotherapy and also Rauwolfia Vomitoria, and chemotherapy has been documented. That stuff results from the studies that we have done already at the time of my father’s with all chemotherapy was like five, that was used in the ‘80s. And now we have been able to show that with this gemcitabine, carboplatin, doxorubicin, and paclitaxel. So that’s very interesting because those chemotherapies are different kinds of molecules. Those molecules do not work well always together. You cannot always combine those chemotherapies. But every time we had a nice synergy of action with Pao Pereira and Rauwolfia Vomitoria. And I have some numbers here I can tell you.

Absolutely.

Because I am not good with memorizing numbers so I like to have that with me. But for example here with carboplatin. So this is ovarian cancer stem cells, the Pao Pereira alone suppresses the tumor growth by 79% and that reduces acid volumes by 55%.

55. That’s powerful.

Sylvie Beljanski

Yeah. Alone. When Pau is combined with carboplatin tumor inhibition reaches 97% and acids are completely suppressed.

Wow.

When it comes to Rauwolfia Vomitoria, so the publication says ascites fluid volume and the number of non-blood cells in acids were significantly reduced. The combination of Rauwolfia with carboplatin remarkably enhances the latest effect, reducing tumor build from 87% to 90% percent and acid volume from 89% to 97%. So that’s the, and that’s in animals it needs to be done in mice. But it’s very important because acids are a very dear complication and very common complication of ovarian cancer. And getting this kind of research we saw toxicity, why not?

Phenomenal. And the ascites are this fluid buildup in the belly that often happens in the later stages of the disease. So that’s unheard of to be able to affect that in such a positive way. So with all this amazing information, and all the research backing these products, can the average person purchase these products and start using them in their protocols? How do they go about that?

Sylvie Beljanski

Yes. Yes. So on the website of Maison Beljanski which is a company that sponsors the research by providing the extracts, you can find the extracts. So individually the Pao Pereira is available, so as Pao V and then the stronger form called Pao V FM. The Rauwolfia Vomitoria is also available under the name of Rovol V. And in Onkobel-Pro there are said plant extracts made of golden gingko extract and it’s called Ginko V. So all see available on the website of Maison Beljanski. And you can get them together under the name of Onkobel-Pro. For that, you have to go through a doctor because that combination is unique to the professional line. I want to say a word about the Gingko, Golden Ginkgo biloba. It doesn’t have the same direct cancer effect as Pao Pereira and Rauwolfia Vomitoria. But it has also extremely interesting properties and that’s why it’s an integrated part of Onkobel-Pro. My father observed that this golden ginkgo extract has the ability to regulate liver enzymes and in particular is able to help with skin fibrosis. So that’s very helpful for people who are going under radiation. And there are a lot of women with breast cancer who have radiation. 

What we have been able to see at the Baljinski Foundation since my father’s passing is that, it’s one of the specific enzymes that as a gingko is able to inhibit is arginine, and arginine is the specific enzyme that helps concept cells create new blood vessels so they can feed themselves, they need a lot of energy, so they create new blood vessels to get more nutrients to themselves. And also that allows them, all those blood vessels allow them to fight those cancerous cells to watch other organs. So being able to inhibit arginine we are one famishing, starving cancer cells, and also we are preventing the spread of cancerous cells. So that’s why this golden gingko extracts, which is, I believe very unique to what we are doing. It’s completely different from a green gingko extract. Is a part of Onkobel-Pro.

Wow. I mean, how did your father know? I mean a plant from Africa, a plant from South America and you know, the gingko, the golden ginkgo to put those things together? I mean, what an amazing feat.

Sylvie Beljanski

Well, it created the test. At that time, you know, he was a vision, he had a thinking of the environment and he created a test to test for compounds to see how much of a destabilization of the DNA they would induce. He looked for also molecules that could do the opposite, molecules that would be able to hiney beat cancerous cells. So synthesis of cancer, DNA synthesis of cancer cells without effect on healthy cells. And he was able to find not one but two of those molecules. And that’s the first he found Rauwolfia Vomitoria which has been known actually in ayurvedic medicine for a long time. But it is used traditionally with a reserpine content. And the reserpine is toxic. So my father studied several facts and had the idea to remove the reserpine. And he has an extract which is reserpine free. But alstonine is rich, and this alstonine is a compound able to selectively address cancerous cells. And then because it was a lot of work and quite messy to remove reserpine from Rauwolfia Vomitoria. He looked for molecules that would be close to alstonine and that’s how we found Flavopereirine which is the active of Pao Pereira.

What a genius. And we’re so grateful. We’re so grateful that you are carrying on that legacy and think of the butterfly effect and the number of lives that this has touched and will continue to touch.

And I am so grateful to America to have provided the land and opportunity to carry on this legacy. Because of what we are doing now it would be absolutely impossible to do it in France. Impossible. Everything was done to destroy his research. And the only way to make it possible to survive was to immigrate and I mean, the amazing reception that we had here where open-minded scientists and doctors were willing to listen to this approach and give it a try.
