Antioxidants

Antioxidants are compounds that protect the body's cells from damage caused by harmful molecules called free radicals. Free radicals are produced as byproducts of normal metabolic processes and can also be generated by exposure to environmental factors such as pollution, radiation, and cigarette smoke. If left unchecked, free radicals can lead to oxidative stress, which contributes to various chronic diseases and accelerates the aging process. Antioxidants, found in certain foods and supplements, neutralize free radicals and help prevent or reduce oxidative damage. Common dietary antioxidants include vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, selenium, and various phytochemicals found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds.
