Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complex and debilitating medical condition characterized by persistent and unexplained fatigue that lasts for at least six months and is not significantly improved by rest. Individuals with CFS often experience profound exhaustion that interferes with their daily activities and may worsen with physical or mental exertion, a condition known as post-exertional malaise. The exact cause of CFS is not fully understood, but it is believed to result from a combination of factors, including viral infections, immune system dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, and psychological stress. Diagnosis is made by ruling out other potential causes of fatigue through comprehensive medical evaluation. Management of CFS typically involves a combination of symptom relief, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and graded exercise programs to gradually increase physical activity levels.
