Fungi are a diverse group of microorganisms that play both beneficial and harmful roles in human health. While some fungi contribute to the fermentation of foods and the production of antibiotics, others can cause infections in humans. Fungal infections, known as mycoses, range from superficial skin conditions like athlete's foot to potentially life-threatening systemic infections. Effective treatment of fungal infections often requires antifungal medications tailored to the specific type of fungus involved.
