Healthy Fats

Healthy fats, often referred to as dietary fats, are essential components of a balanced diet that play a vital role in maintaining overall health and supporting various bodily functions. These fats are categorized into different types, including monounsaturated fats, polyunsaturated fats (omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids), and saturated fats. Healthy fats are primarily found in sources such as avocados, nuts, seeds, olive oil, fatty fish (like salmon and mackerel), and certain plant-based oils. Unlike trans fats and excessive saturated fats, which are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, healthy fats offer numerous health benefits. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are known to promote heart health by helping to lower LDL cholesterol levels (often referred to as "bad" cholesterol) and reduce inflammation within the body. Omega-3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fat found in fatty fish and flaxseeds, are particularly renowned for their positive impact on brain function, reducing the risk of cognitive decline and supporting mood regulation.
