Lupus

Lupus, or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organs and systems in the body. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues, leading to inflammation. Lupus primarily affects women, often starting in their childbearing years. The exact cause of lupus is unknown, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. Common symptoms of lupus include fatigue, joint pain, skin rashes (particularly a butterfly-shaped rash on the face), fever, hair loss, and sensitivity to sunlight. Lupus is a complex condition with a wide range of manifestations and can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, and blood cells. Treatment aims to control symptoms and prevent flares using medications and lifestyle modifications.
