Midlife Plot Twist: Time Doesn’t Heal Grief
7 hours ago
- Time alone does not heal. It is one of the most repeated pieces of advice we get, and it is a myth. Like a flat tire on the side of the road, grief needs a specific set of correct steps, not just the clock.
- The myths we were handed keep us stuck. Be strong, keep busy, don’t feel bad, grieve alone. They come from people who love us, but they teach us to disconnect from our feelings instead of processing them, and the feelings do not disappear, they get stored in the body.
- Notice your STERBs. Short-term energy-releasing behaviors: overeating, overworking, doom scrolling, shopping, a glass of wine, keeping busy, are the ways we quietly avoid the pain. Naming them is not about shame, it is the first honest step toward setting the baggage down.
