So, Brantley, thank you so much for 0:43 So, Brantley, thank you so much for 0:43 So, Brantley, thank you so much for being here. 0:44 being here. 0:44 being here. >> Of course, more than happy. 0:46 >> Of course, more than happy. 0:46 >> Of course, more than happy. >> So, before we dive in, I'd love to hear 0:49 >> So, before we dive in, I'd love to hear 0:49 >> So, before we dive in, I'd love to hear how you got into this work. You have 0:51 how you got into this work. You have 0:51 how you got into this work. You have such an interesting combination of 0:53 such an interesting combination of 0:53 such an interesting combination of building science and mycology, 0:55 building science and mycology, 0:55 building science and mycology, microscopy. So, what led you down this 0:57 microscopy. So, what led you down this 0:57 microscopy. So, what led you down this path? 0:58 path? 0:58 path? >> Well, um my mom and my dad are mold 1:00 >> Well, um my mom and my dad are mold 1:00 >> Well, um my mom and my dad are mold remediators. 1:02 remediators. 1:02 remediators. And so, you know, when I was 1:04 And so, you know, when I was 1:04 And so, you know, when I was gosh, 15 or 16 years old, they started 1:07 gosh, 15 or 16 years old, they started 1:07 gosh, 15 or 16 years old, they started their company and 1:08 their company and 1:09 their company and when I turned 17, I started working with 1:10 when I turned 17, I started working with 1:10 when I turned 17, I started working with them. Well, I call it work, but um I 1:13 them. Well, I call it work, but um I 1:13 them. Well, I call it work, but um I guess it's not work if you're not 1:13 guess it's not work if you're not 1:13 guess it's not work if you're not getting paid, right? And 1:16 getting paid, right? And 1:16 getting paid, right? And but uh 1:17 but uh 1:17 but uh you know, just ripping out mold and 1:19 you know, just ripping out mold and 1:19 you know, just ripping out mold and um you know, whenever I 1:21 um you know, whenever I 1:21 um you know, whenever I uh you know, family business, you're 1:22 uh you know, family business, you're 1:22 uh you know, family business, you're kind of in and out, right? And I left, I 1:24 kind of in and out, right? And I left, I 1:25 kind of in and out, right? And I left, I started working for Apple, funny enough. 1:27 started working for Apple, funny enough. 1:27 started working for Apple, funny enough. Um I was a site support engineer for 1:28 Um I was a site support engineer for 1:28 Um I was a site support engineer for Apple, and I learned a lot of techniques 1:30 Apple, and I learned a lot of techniques 1:30 Apple, and I learned a lot of techniques on root cause analysis and uh critical 1:33 on root cause analysis and uh critical 1:33 on root cause analysis and uh critical thinking skills that they would teach on 1:35 thinking skills that they would teach on 1:35 thinking skills that they would teach on us problem-solving and bugging out 1:36 us problem-solving and bugging out 1:36 us problem-solving and bugging out issues. And uh came back and I was at 1:40 issues. And uh came back and I was at 1:40 issues. And uh came back and I was at that point way more interested in the 1:41 that point way more interested in the 1:41 that point way more interested in the investigation side of things. 1:43 investigation side of things. 1:43 investigation side of things. And so, I just kind of started my own 1:44 And so, I just kind of started my own 1:44 And so, I just kind of started my own company doing inspections for mold. 1:47 company doing inspections for mold. 1:47 company doing inspections for mold. And as I grew, I realized that there's 1:49 And as I grew, I realized that there's 1:49 And as I grew, I realized that there's more problems than just mold. Um and 1:51 more problems than just mold. Um and 1:51 more problems than just mold. Um and then, 1:52 then, 1:52 then, you know, I started dealing with my own 1:54 you know, I started dealing with my own 1:54 you know, I started dealing with my own health stuff, which I I've been back and 1:56 health stuff, which I I've been back and 1:56 health stuff, which I I've been back and forth in in my life. And I realized like 2:00 forth in in my life. And I realized like 2:00 forth in in my life. And I realized like how important it is to be able to handle 2:02 how important it is to be able to handle 2:02 how important it is to be able to handle uh 2:03 uh 2:03 uh sensitive situations, complex situations 2:06 sensitive situations, complex situations 2:06 sensitive situations, complex situations for people that are immunocompromised or 2:09 for people that are immunocompromised or 2:09 for people that are immunocompromised or immunosuppressed. And so, now that's 2:11 immunosuppressed. And so, now that's 2:11 immunosuppressed. And so, now that's usually where we hang our hat. We do 2:13 usually where we hang our hat. We do 2:13 usually where we hang our hat. We do mostly stuff for um people that are have 2:15 mostly stuff for um people that are have 2:15 mostly stuff for um people that are have mold-related illnesses um or autoimmune 2:17 mold-related illnesses um or autoimmune 2:17 mold-related illnesses um or autoimmune issues. And then we have um we deal with 2:20 issues. And then we have um we deal with 2:20 issues. And then we have um we deal with complex cases. That's our job.
What Mold Is and Why Moisture Matters 2:23 complex cases. That's our job. 2:23 complex cases. That's our job. >> Awesome. Awesome. And I know you've come 2:25 >> Awesome. Awesome. And I know you've come 2:25 >> Awesome. Awesome. And I know you've come out with this course recently, which 2:27 out with this course recently, which 2:27 out with this course recently, which we're going to talk about in this 2:28 we're going to talk about in this 2:28 we're going to talk about in this episode because it's awesome. But I love 2:31 episode because it's awesome. But I love 2:31 episode because it's awesome. But I love that in that course, you start by 2:33 that in that course, you start by 2:34 that in that course, you start by reminding people what mold actually is 2:36 reminding people what mold actually is 2:36 reminding people what mold actually is cuz I think that's so important because 2:38 cuz I think that's so important because 2:38 cuz I think that's so important because people often think of mold as a spot on 2:40 people often think of mold as a spot on 2:40 people often think of mold as a spot on the wall or something mysterious, 2:43 the wall or something mysterious, 2:43 the wall or something mysterious, something that is, you know, kind of 2:45 something that is, you know, kind of 2:45 something that is, you know, kind of lurking behind the walls. So, can you 2:48 lurking behind the walls. So, can you 2:48 lurking behind the walls. So, can you just give us a brief summary? I love how 2:50 just give us a brief summary? I love how 2:51 just give us a brief summary? I love how you explain it in the course, but can 2:51 you explain it in the course, but can 2:51 you explain it in the course, but can you give us a brief summary of how mold 2:53 you give us a brief summary of how mold 2:53 you give us a brief summary of how mold works as a living organism and why that 2:56 works as a living organism and why that 2:56 works as a living organism and why that matters when we're thinking about our 2:58 matters when we're thinking about our 2:58 matters when we're thinking about our homes? 2:59 homes? 2:59 homes? >> Sure. I mean, um depends on how nerdy 3:02 >> Sure. I mean, um depends on how nerdy 3:02 >> Sure. I mean, um depends on how nerdy you want me to get. But uh fungi in 3:04 you want me to get. But uh fungi in 3:04 you want me to get. But uh fungi in general, it's its own kingdom, right? 3:06 general, it's its own kingdom, right? 3:06 general, it's its own kingdom, right? So, we have all these different 3:06 So, we have all these different 3:06 So, we have all these different kingdoms. Um we're in the animal 3:08 kingdoms. Um we're in the animal 3:08 kingdoms. Um we're in the animal kingdom, but 3:10 kingdom, but 3:10 kingdom, but you know, you have plants and then you 3:12 you know, you have plants and then you 3:12 you know, you have plants and then you have bacteria. And fungi have their own 3:14 have bacteria. And fungi have their own 3:14 have bacteria. And fungi have their own kingdom and they deserve their own 3:15 kingdom and they deserve their own 3:15 kingdom and they deserve their own kingdom because they're very special. Um 3:18 kingdom because they're very special. Um 3:18 kingdom because they're very special. Um what makes them different? Well, um 3:19 what makes them different? Well, um 3:19 what makes them different? Well, um they're very different than plants as 3:21 they're very different than plants as 3:21 they're very different than plants as though uh as though they may look 3:23 though uh as though they may look 3:23 though uh as though they may look similar and you might think that they're 3:24 similar and you might think that they're 3:24 similar and you might think that they're similar. Plants are very specific 3:27 similar. Plants are very specific 3:27 similar. Plants are very specific because they can produce their own 3:28 because they can produce their own 3:28 because they can produce their own sugars. You know, they they have 3:30 sugars. You know, they they have 3:30 sugars. You know, they they have photosynthesis, if we remember back in 3:32 photosynthesis, if we remember back in 3:32 photosynthesis, if we remember back in uh fifth grade biology. They, you know, 3:34 uh fifth grade biology. They, you know, 3:34 uh fifth grade biology. They, you know, they get stuff from the sun and they 3:35 they get stuff from the sun and they 3:35 they get stuff from the sun and they convert it to sugar. 3:37 convert it to sugar. 3:37 convert it to sugar. Mushrooms can't do that. Mold can't do 3:38 Mushrooms can't do that. Mold can't do 3:38 Mushrooms can't do that. Mold can't do that, right? So, they have to digest 3:40 that, right? So, they have to digest 3:40 that, right? So, they have to digest their food. They have to find sugars and 3:43 their food. They have to find sugars and 3:43 their food. They have to find sugars and find foods. And here they have a huge 3:45 find foods. And here they have a huge 3:45 find foods. And here they have a huge source of those things in the 3:47 source of those things in the 3:47 source of those things in the environment or in our house. 3:49 environment or in our house. 3:49 environment or in our house. And um Um, you know, the other thing 3:51 And um Um, you know, the other thing 3:51 And um Um, you know, the other thing that makes them very unique, different 3:52 that makes them very unique, different 3:52 that makes them very unique, different from animals, is we ingest food in our 3:55 from animals, is we ingest food in our 3:55 from animals, is we ingest food in our mouths and our bellies, 3:57 mouths and our bellies, 3:57 mouths and our bellies, munch it up and digest it. You know all 3:58 munch it up and digest it. You know all 3:58 munch it up and digest it. You know all about that. 4:00 about that. 4:00 about that. And um, they do the opposite, right? 4:02 And um, they do the opposite, right? 4:02 And um, they do the opposite, right? Instead of putting the apple in their 4:04 Instead of putting the apple in their 4:04 Instead of putting the apple in their mouth, going inside, and then breaking 4:05 mouth, going inside, and then breaking 4:05 mouth, going inside, and then breaking it down into simple components, they um, 4:08 it down into simple components, they um, 4:08 it down into simple components, they um, you know, they embed themselves into it. 4:09 you know, they embed themselves into it. 4:09 you know, they embed themselves into it. They release chemicals, and those 4:11 They release chemicals, and those 4:11 They release chemicals, and those chemicals will break down the components 4:13 chemicals will break down the components 4:13 chemicals will break down the components into simpler parts, and then they absorb 4:14 into simpler parts, and then they absorb 4:14 into simpler parts, and then they absorb them. And so, um, why is that important? 4:18 them. And so, um, why is that important? 4:18 them. And so, um, why is that important? Uh, well, what makes it Well, the first 4:20 Uh, well, what makes it Well, the first 4:20 Uh, well, what makes it Well, the first thing I want to point out is these 4:21 thing I want to point out is these 4:21 thing I want to point out is these things are everywhere, and they're 4:22 things are everywhere, and they're 4:22 things are everywhere, and they're actually necessary for life. 4:24 actually necessary for life. 4:24 actually necessary for life. Um, you know, they are the decomposers 4:26 Um, you know, they are the decomposers 4:26 Um, you know, they are the decomposers of the world. So, we're going to find it 4:28 of the world. So, we're going to find it 4:28 of the world. So, we're going to find it every step you take outside. You're 4:30 every step you take outside. You're 4:30 every step you take outside. You're There's miles of mycelium, which are the 4:32 There's miles of mycelium, which are the 4:32 There's miles of mycelium, which are the root-like structures of of uh, the mold 4:35 root-like structures of of uh, the mold 4:35 root-like structures of of uh, the mold underneath your feet. And there are 4:37 underneath your feet. And there are 4:37 underneath your feet. And there are quite literally millions of spores uh, 4:40 quite literally millions of spores uh, 4:40 quite literally millions of spores uh, underneath your feet every time you 4:41 underneath your feet every time you 4:41 underneath your feet every time you walk. So, you know, 4:43 walk. So, you know, 4:43 walk. So, you know, the first step is to recognize 4:46 the first step is to recognize 4:46 the first step is to recognize let's regulate our nervous systems here, 4:48 let's regulate our nervous systems here, 4:48 let's regulate our nervous systems here, and let's realize that this is this is 4:49 and let's realize that this is this is 4:49 and let's realize that this is this is out there, right? If someone comes in 4:51 out there, right? If someone comes in 4:51 out there, right? If someone comes in and does an air sample in your house, 4:52 and does an air sample in your house, 4:53 and does an air sample in your house, and they see mold spores in the air, um, 4:55 and they see mold spores in the air, um, 4:55 and they see mold spores in the air, um, if you're worried about that, I don't 4:57 if you're worried about that, I don't 4:57 if you're worried about that, I don't want you to know how many spores you're 4:58 want you to know how many spores you're 4:58 want you to know how many spores you're stepping in when you're going outside to 4:59 stepping in when you're going outside to 4:59 stepping in when you're going outside to ground yourself. You know, 5:01 ground yourself. You know, 5:01 ground yourself. You know, >> I hate Exactly. Exactly. 5:03 >> I hate Exactly. Exactly. 5:03 >> I hate Exactly. Exactly. >> Yeah. 5:04 >> Yeah. 5:04 >> Yeah. So, keep in mind that um, but with that 5:05 So, keep in mind that um, but with that 5:05 So, keep in mind that um, but with that being said, 5:07 being said, 5:07 being said, moisture thrives on or or mold thrives 5:09 moisture thrives on or or mold thrives 5:09 moisture thrives on or or mold thrives on moisture. 5:10 on moisture. 5:10 on moisture. And so, whenever we have a moisture 5:12 And so, whenever we have a moisture 5:12 And so, whenever we have a moisture issue in our house, 5:14 issue in our house, 5:14 issue in our house, and it goes unchecked, right? Um, then 5:17 and it goes unchecked, right? Um, then 5:17 and it goes unchecked, right? Um, then that is when it actually does cause some 5:18 that is when it actually does cause some 5:18 that is when it actually does cause some problems because 5:20 problems because 5:20 problems because the house is very different than the 5:21 the house is very different than the 5:21 the house is very different than the outside environment, where there's UV, 5:23 outside environment, where there's UV, 5:23 outside environment, where there's UV, day and night cycles, humidity cycles, 5:25 day and night cycles, humidity cycles, 5:25 day and night cycles, humidity cycles, dry, wet, dry, wet, different um, 5:27 dry, wet, dry, wet, different um, 5:27 dry, wet, dry, wet, different um, biology out there to keep the balance, 5:29 biology out there to keep the balance, 5:29 biology out there to keep the balance, right? When you start having mold grow 5:31 right? When you start having mold grow 5:31 right? When you start having mold grow in your house because of these moisture 5:33 in your house because of these moisture 5:33 in your house because of these moisture issues, they are going to start eating 5:35 issues, they are going to start eating 5:35 issues, they are going to start eating on these materials, like we said that 5:36 on these materials, like we said that 5:36 on these materials, like we said that they need to digest and eat their foods. 5:38 they need to digest and eat their foods. 5:38 they need to digest and eat their foods. They produce chemicals during that 5:40 They produce chemicals during that 5:40 They produce chemicals during that process. A lot of them can be um, a 5:42 process. A lot of them can be um, a 5:42 process. A lot of them can be um, a concern for us and exposure risk, like 5:44 concern for us and exposure risk, like 5:44 concern for us and exposure risk, like mycotoxins. And then um, you know, once 5:47 mycotoxins. And then um, you know, once 5:47 mycotoxins. And then um, you know, once they reproduce, which they're going to 5:48 they reproduce, which they're going to 5:48 they reproduce, which they're going to throw spores around in the air just like 5:50 throw spores around in the air just like 5:50 throw spores around in the air just like a mushroom would, they can be 5:52 a mushroom would, they can be 5:52 a mushroom would, they can be allergenic, they can be potentially 5:54 allergenic, they can be potentially 5:54 allergenic, they can be potentially pathogenic, causing infection, and a lot 5:56 pathogenic, causing infection, and a lot 5:56 pathogenic, causing infection, and a lot of them can have toxins associated with 5:58 of them can have toxins associated with 5:58 of them can have toxins associated with them. So, it's important. Now, um, one 6:01 them. So, it's important. Now, um, one 6:01 them. So, it's important. Now, um, one of the biggest 6:02 of the biggest 6:02 of the biggest um, I guess, problems that we find with 6:04 um, I guess, problems that we find with 6:04 um, I guess, problems that we find with misinformation about mold in the 6:07 misinformation about mold in the 6:07 misinformation about mold in the environment is that, um, you know, if 6:10 environment is that, um, you know, if 6:10 environment is that, um, you know, if you if if mold gets in your house, it's 6:12 you if if mold gets in your house, it's 6:12 you if if mold gets in your house, it's just going to spread. 6:13 just going to spread. 6:13 just going to spread. You need a moisture source, right? There 6:15 You need a moisture source, right? There 6:15 You need a moisture source, right? There has to be moisture. So, no moisture, no 6:17 has to be moisture. So, no moisture, no 6:17 has to be moisture. So, no moisture, no mold. And so, um, really when it comes 6:20 mold. And so, um, really when it comes 6:20 mold. And so, um, really when it comes down to it, 6:21 down to it, 6:21 down to it, the most important thing to know about 6:22 the most important thing to know about 6:22 the most important thing to know about mold is that it needs moisture. And 6:24 mold is that it needs moisture. And 6:24 mold is that it needs moisture. And that's why we need to be very, very good 6:26 that's why we need to be very, very good 6:26 that's why we need to be very, very good at identifying moisture sources.
Building Science, Ventilation, and Airtight Homes 6:30 at identifying moisture sources. 6:30 at identifying moisture sources. >> Yeah, so true. And that environment 6:32 >> Yeah, so true. And that environment 6:32 >> Yeah, so true. And that environment inside our bodies can be 6:35 inside our bodies can be 6:35 inside our bodies can be a very, you know, nice moist environment 6:37 a very, you know, nice moist environment 6:37 a very, you know, nice moist environment for for mold, as well. But, like to keep 6:41 for for mold, as well. But, like to keep 6:41 for for mold, as well. But, like to keep our microbiomes in check. So 6:43 our microbiomes in check. So 6:43 our microbiomes in check. So interesting. Thanks. 6:44 interesting. Thanks. 6:44 interesting. Thanks. Um, and so, when we talk about the air 6:48 Um, and so, when we talk about the air 6:48 Um, and so, when we talk about the air quality, 6:49 quality, 6:50 quality, we talk a lot about molds. But, as you 6:52 we talk a lot about molds. But, as you 6:52 we talk a lot about molds. But, as you said, you learned early on that it 6:54 said, you learned early on that it 6:54 said, you learned early on that it wasn't just mold, and there's several 6:56 wasn't just mold, and there's several 6:56 wasn't just mold, and there's several pieces to the puzzle, and 6:59 pieces to the puzzle, and 6:59 pieces to the puzzle, and that it's moisture. Mold is a moisture 7:00 that it's moisture. Mold is a moisture 7:00 that it's moisture. Mold is a moisture issue. 7:02 issue. 7:02 issue. But, how do these different components 7:04 But, how do these different components 7:04 But, how do these different components come into play in our home? So, we've 7:05 come into play in our home? So, we've 7:05 come into play in our home? So, we've got moisture, ventilation, we've got our 7:08 got moisture, ventilation, we've got our 7:08 got moisture, ventilation, we've got our HVAC, we've got dust, we've got building 7:11 HVAC, we've got dust, we've got building 7:11 HVAC, we've got dust, we've got building materials. 7:12 materials. 7:12 materials. Like, what's the biggest deal? How can 7:14 Like, what's the biggest deal? How can 7:14 Like, what's the biggest deal? How can all of these affect our indoor 7:15 all of these affect our indoor 7:16 all of these affect our indoor environment? 7:17 environment? 7:17 environment? >> Well, if we look at it from a building 7:20 >> Well, if we look at it from a building 7:20 >> Well, if we look at it from a building science perspective, 7:25 in the 7:25 in the you know, in the early 1900s, we were 7:27 you know, in the early 1900s, we were 7:27 you know, in the early 1900s, we were doing pretty good. We built our our 7:29 doing pretty good. We built our our 7:29 doing pretty good. We built our our buildings out of solid wood, plaster. 7:32 buildings out of solid wood, plaster. 7:32 buildings out of solid wood, plaster. Um, there really wasn't much insulation 7:34 Um, there really wasn't much insulation 7:34 Um, there really wasn't much insulation to speak of. 7:35 to speak of. 7:35 to speak of. And so, 7:37 And so, 7:37 And so, when, you know, the the the the function 7:40 when, you know, the the the the function 7:40 when, you know, the the the the function of insulation is to create a resistance 7:43 of insulation is to create a resistance 7:43 of insulation is to create a resistance of heat transfer. So, that way when it's 7:45 of heat transfer. So, that way when it's 7:45 of heat transfer. So, that way when it's really, really cold outside, the house 7:46 really, really cold outside, the house 7:46 really, really cold outside, the house doesn't get really, really cold. It's 7:47 doesn't get really, really cold. It's 7:47 doesn't get really, really cold. It's There's some resistance there with the 7:49 There's some resistance there with the 7:49 There's some resistance there with the heat in the house escaping. We want We 7:51 heat in the house escaping. We want We 7:51 heat in the house escaping. We want We want insulation in the walls, so it 7:52 want insulation in the walls, so it 7:52 want insulation in the walls, so it doesn't go out. Imagine going outside uh 7:55 doesn't go out. Imagine going outside uh 7:55 doesn't go out. Imagine going outside uh without a jacket on, right? Immediately 7:56 without a jacket on, right? Immediately 7:56 without a jacket on, right? Immediately you're cold. Um but if you put a nice, 7:58 you're cold. Um but if you put a nice, 7:58 you're cold. Um but if you put a nice, big, fluffy jacket that has insulation 8:00 big, fluffy jacket that has insulation 8:00 big, fluffy jacket that has insulation in it, it keeps you warm for a little 8:01 in it, it keeps you warm for a little 8:01 in it, it keeps you warm for a little bit. Um and so, 8:03 bit. Um and so, 8:03 bit. Um and so, before we put insulation in our walls, 8:05 before we put insulation in our walls, 8:05 before we put insulation in our walls, we actually didn't have that much 8:06 we actually didn't have that much 8:06 we actually didn't have that much problem with mold because 8:08 problem with mold because 8:08 problem with mold because what happened when things got wet is 8:10 what happened when things got wet is 8:11 what happened when things got wet is that they dried themselves. And how does 8:12 that they dried themselves. And how does 8:12 that they dried themselves. And how does it dry? Well, things dry because they 8:14 it dry? Well, things dry because they 8:14 it dry? Well, things dry because they need energy. Right? So, if something's a 8:16 need energy. Right? So, if something's a 8:16 need energy. Right? So, if something's a liquid and you apply heat and energy to 8:18 liquid and you apply heat and energy to 8:18 liquid and you apply heat and energy to it, it will evaporate eventually and dry 8:20 it, it will evaporate eventually and dry 8:20 it, it will evaporate eventually and dry out. Well, if you're stuffing things in 8:22 out. Well, if you're stuffing things in 8:22 out. Well, if you're stuffing things in your walls that are preventing energy 8:25 your walls that are preventing energy 8:25 your walls that are preventing energy from transferring, what do you think's 8:26 from transferring, what do you think's 8:26 from transferring, what do you think's going to happen when that wall gets wet? 8:28 going to happen when that wall gets wet? 8:28 going to happen when that wall gets wet? Right? Now it's more likely to stay wet 8:30 Right? Now it's more likely to stay wet 8:30 Right? Now it's more likely to stay wet and not dry. 8:32 and not dry. 8:32 and not dry. And then, mix on top of that, as things 8:34 And then, mix on top of that, as things 8:34 And then, mix on top of that, as things continued, we replaced plaster with 8:36 continued, we replaced plaster with 8:36 continued, we replaced plaster with drywall. 8:37 drywall. 8:37 drywall. We replaced solid wood with OSB and 8:40 We replaced solid wood with OSB and 8:40 We replaced solid wood with OSB and sheathing, right? Which are basically 8:42 sheathing, right? Which are basically 8:42 sheathing, right? Which are basically chunks of half-digested wood, which I'm 8:45 chunks of half-digested wood, which I'm 8:45 chunks of half-digested wood, which I'm sure mold is like, "Thanks, you know?" 8:47 sure mold is like, "Thanks, you know?" 8:47 sure mold is like, "Thanks, you know?" And then, 8:49 And then, 8:49 And then, on top of that, we dealt with the energy 8:50 on top of that, we dealt with the energy 8:50 on top of that, we dealt with the energy crisis in the '70s, which made energy 8:53 crisis in the '70s, which made energy 8:53 crisis in the '70s, which made energy efficiency a huge deal. And now our 8:55 efficiency a huge deal. And now our 8:55 efficiency a huge deal. And now our insulation got better, more efficient. 8:58 insulation got better, more efficient. 8:58 insulation got better, more efficient. Our We started dealing with uh air 8:59 Our We started dealing with uh air 8:59 Our We started dealing with uh air conditioning systems. Now we're dealing 9:01 conditioning systems. Now we're dealing 9:01 conditioning systems. Now we're dealing with 9:02 with 9:02 with um 9:03 um 9:03 um complex networks of airflow. We're 9:04 complex networks of airflow. We're 9:05 complex networks of airflow. We're dealing with pressure imbalances. We're 9:06 dealing with pressure imbalances. We're 9:06 dealing with pressure imbalances. We're dealing with um hot hitting cold. And 9:10 dealing with um hot hitting cold. And 9:10 dealing with um hot hitting cold. And now, you know, flash forward to today, 9:13 now, you know, flash forward to today, 9:13 now, you know, flash forward to today, things are 9:14 things are 9:14 things are cheaper materials, way more energy 9:17 cheaper materials, way more energy 9:17 cheaper materials, way more energy efficient, way more airtight. And when 9:20 efficient, way more airtight. And when 9:20 efficient, way more airtight. And when the building gets more airtight, 9:21 the building gets more airtight, 9:21 the building gets more airtight, whatever's going on in the building, 9:22 whatever's going on in the building, 9:22 whatever's going on in the building, you're stuck in the building with, 9:24 you're stuck in the building with, 9:24 you're stuck in the building with, right? And so, a small mold problem back 9:27 right? And so, a small mold problem back 9:27 right? And so, a small mold problem back in 1910 was a small mold problem because 9:30 in 1910 was a small mold problem because 9:30 in 1910 was a small mold problem because there was so much natural ventilation. 9:32 there was so much natural ventilation. 9:33 there was so much natural ventilation. Now it's a big mold problem because 9:34 Now it's a big mold problem because 9:34 Now it's a big mold problem because you're stuck in there with it. And so, 9:36 you're stuck in there with it. And so, 9:36 you're stuck in there with it. And so, we have to consider that uh ventilation 9:39 we have to consider that uh ventilation 9:39 we have to consider that uh ventilation is is a huge deal, not just for mold, 9:40 is is a huge deal, not just for mold, 9:40 is is a huge deal, not just for mold, but for other pollutants that are in the 9:42 but for other pollutants that are in the 9:42 but for other pollutants that are in the house. We create a lot of pollutants, 9:44 house. We create a lot of pollutants, 9:44 house. We create a lot of pollutants, you know, with cleaning, cooking, uh 9:46 you know, with cleaning, cooking, uh 9:46 you know, with cleaning, cooking, uh showering, whatever the case may be, 9:48 showering, whatever the case may be, 9:48 showering, whatever the case may be, there's pollutants inside. We slough off 9:50 there's pollutants inside. We slough off 9:50 there's pollutants inside. We slough off particulate, so do your animals, and 9:52 particulate, so do your animals, and 9:52 particulate, so do your animals, and there's just it goes on and on and on, 9:54 there's just it goes on and on and on, 9:54 there's just it goes on and on and on, right? And so, ventilation is huge. HVAC 9:57 right? And so, ventilation is huge. HVAC 9:57 right? And so, ventilation is huge. HVAC systems are huge cuz they're handling 9:59 systems are huge cuz they're handling 9:59 systems are huge cuz they're handling the conditioning, cooling, drying, 10:01 the conditioning, cooling, drying, 10:01 the conditioning, cooling, drying, filtration, and um 10:03 filtration, and um 10:03 filtration, and um you know, what building materials are we 10:05 you know, what building materials are we 10:05 you know, what building materials are we bringing in? So, now there's chemical 10:07 bringing in? So, now there's chemical 10:07 bringing in? So, now there's chemical component to this. So, yeah, as as time 10:09 component to this. So, yeah, as as time 10:09 component to this. So, yeah, as as time goes on, we have to be more and more 10:10 goes on, we have to be more and more 10:10 goes on, we have to be more and more mindful because 10:12 mindful because 10:12 mindful because as we add things into our environment to 10:15 as we add things into our environment to 10:15 as we add things into our environment to worsen the air quality, we're also 10:16 worsen the air quality, we're also 10:16 worsen the air quality, we're also making the houses tighter, which are 10:19 making the houses tighter, which are 10:19 making the houses tighter, which are basically trapping us in there with it. 10:20 basically trapping us in there with it. 10:21 basically trapping us in there with it. So, um we are now kind of at the cusp of 10:25 So, um we are now kind of at the cusp of 10:25 So, um we are now kind of at the cusp of how regulations and code are 10:28 how regulations and code are 10:28 how regulations and code are requiring ventilation, which is great. 10:31 requiring ventilation, which is great. 10:31 requiring ventilation, which is great. So, now we're getting some fresh air, 10:32 So, now we're getting some fresh air, 10:32 So, now we're getting some fresh air, but it's tricky, and because it's so 10:35 but it's tricky, and because it's so 10:35 but it's tricky, and because it's so novel to a lot of contractors, it's 10:36 novel to a lot of contractors, it's 10:36 novel to a lot of contractors, it's being done wrong. And so, it's kind of 10:38 being done wrong. And so, it's kind of 10:38 being done wrong. And so, it's kind of an interesting time right now to try to 10:39 an interesting time right now to try to 10:40 an interesting time right now to try to fix air quality issues.
Presence vs Exposure and Hidden Mold 10:42 fix air quality issues. 10:42 fix air quality issues. >> Yeah, so interesting, and I've heard 10:43 >> Yeah, so interesting, and I've heard 10:43 >> Yeah, so interesting, and I've heard that phrase a lot, like let the home 10:45 that phrase a lot, like let the home 10:45 that phrase a lot, like let the home breathe, or does the home need to 10:47 breathe, or does the home need to 10:47 breathe, or does the home need to breathe? What do you think about that? 10:51 breathe? What do you think about that? 10:51 breathe? What do you think about that? >> I don't want the home to breathe. I want 10:52 >> I don't want the home to breathe. I want 10:52 >> I don't want the home to breathe. I want me to breathe. 10:54 me to breathe. 10:54 me to breathe. Um yeah, I don't 10:55 Um yeah, I don't 10:55 Um yeah, I don't >> I 10:56 >> I 10:56 >> I Well, you've heard that, right? There's 10:57 Well, you've heard that, right? There's 10:57 Well, you've heard that, right? There's that 10:57 that 10:57 that >> Yeah, yeah, and I think I think um 10:59 >> Yeah, yeah, and I think I think um 10:59 >> Yeah, yeah, and I think I think um there's some truth to it. I think 11:00 there's some truth to it. I think 11:00 there's some truth to it. I think there's just um 11:02 there's just um 11:02 there's just um Yeah, there's some We got to fix the 11:03 Yeah, there's some We got to fix the 11:03 Yeah, there's some We got to fix the nomenclature. So, 11:05 nomenclature. So, 11:05 nomenclature. So, >> Absolutely. 11:05 >> Absolutely. 11:06 >> Absolutely. >> the the house 11:07 >> the the house 11:08 >> the the house We want fresh air in the house because 11:09 We want fresh air in the house because 11:09 We want fresh air in the house because we want fresh air. We want to be able to 11:10 we want fresh air. We want to be able to 11:10 we want fresh air. We want to be able to dilute what's in there. We want to be 11:11 dilute what's in there. We want to be 11:11 dilute what's in there. We want to be able to breathe fresh. 11:13 able to breathe fresh. 11:13 able to breathe fresh. But, 11:14 But, 11:14 But, we don't want the house to breathe 11:16 we don't want the house to breathe 11:16 we don't want the house to breathe through the walls, through the windows, 11:18 through the walls, through the windows, 11:18 through the walls, through the windows, from the attic, from the crawl space. 11:20 from the attic, from the crawl space. 11:20 from the attic, from the crawl space. We want to control where it's coming in. 11:21 We want to control where it's coming in. 11:21 We want to control where it's coming in. So, there is no such thing as a house 11:23 So, there is no such thing as a house 11:23 So, there is no such thing as a house that's too tight as long as you're 11:25 that's too tight as long as you're 11:25 that's too tight as long as you're bringing in fresh air because if it's 11:26 bringing in fresh air because if it's 11:26 bringing in fresh air because if it's not too tight, and someone says, "Well, 11:28 not too tight, and someone says, "Well, 11:28 not too tight, and someone says, "Well, we'll just do natural ventilation," 11:30 we'll just do natural ventilation," 11:30 we'll just do natural ventilation," where's is coming from? It's coming from 11:31 where's is coming from? It's coming from 11:31 where's is coming from? It's coming from the attic, which fiberglass, roach poop, 11:34 the attic, which fiberglass, roach poop, 11:34 the attic, which fiberglass, roach poop, humidity, mold. It's coming from the 11:36 humidity, mold. It's coming from the 11:36 humidity, mold. It's coming from the crawl space, radon, right? So, let's get 11:39 crawl space, radon, right? So, let's get 11:39 crawl space, radon, right? So, let's get the house as tight as we can and then 11:40 the house as tight as we can and then 11:40 the house as tight as we can and then control the air by going through a 11:42 control the air by going through a 11:42 control the air by going through a filtration, dehumidification, cooling, 11:44 filtration, dehumidification, cooling, 11:44 filtration, dehumidification, cooling, and all the things that it needs. 11:46 and all the things that it needs. 11:46 and all the things that it needs. >> Yeah, I do like the phrase the solution 11:49 >> Yeah, I do like the phrase the solution 11:49 >> Yeah, I do like the phrase the solution to pollution is dilution. That one I 11:51 to pollution is dilution. That one I 11:51 to pollution is dilution. That one I think checks out. 11:53 think checks out. 11:53 think checks out. >> Yeah, I would uh I like to say that it's 11:54 >> Yeah, I would uh I like to say that it's 11:54 >> Yeah, I would uh I like to say that it's the secondary solution. The primary 11:56 the secondary solution. The primary 11:56 the secondary solution. The primary solution is source control. 11:59 solution is source control. 11:59 solution is source control. Because if you have a pollutant in your 12:01 Because if you have a pollutant in your 12:01 Because if you have a pollutant in your house, let's get it out first. Um 12:03 house, let's get it out first. Um 12:03 house, let's get it out first. Um should you go buy that rug from the, you 12:06 should you go buy that rug from the, you 12:06 should you go buy that rug from the, you know, $20 rug from Amazon that's going 12:08 know, $20 rug from Amazon that's going 12:08 know, $20 rug from Amazon that's going to be off-gassing the chemicals in your 12:11 to be off-gassing the chemicals in your 12:11 to be off-gassing the chemicals in your house forever? 12:12 house forever? 12:12 house forever? Um and are you being mindful of the 12:14 Um and are you being mindful of the 12:14 Um and are you being mindful of the paint that you're using? When you're 12:15 paint that you're using? When you're 12:15 paint that you're using? When you're cooking, are you using your range hood 12:17 cooking, are you using your range hood 12:17 cooking, are you using your range hood to get all those particulates and 12:18 to get all those particulates and 12:18 to get all those particulates and chemicals out when you're cooking? Um 12:21 chemicals out when you're cooking? Um 12:21 chemicals out when you're cooking? Um are we handling the mold problem? So, 12:22 are we handling the mold problem? So, 12:22 are we handling the mold problem? So, source control is also is always number 12:24 source control is also is always number 12:24 source control is also is always number one. But, we are going to have a natural 12:26 one. But, we are going to have a natural 12:26 one. But, we are going to have a natural level of pollutants that we need to 12:28 level of pollutants that we need to 12:28 level of pollutants that we need to dilute. 12:29 dilute. 12:29 dilute. >> Mhm. So, the solution to pollution is 12:31 >> Mhm. So, the solution to pollution is 12:31 >> Mhm. So, the solution to pollution is source control. Doesn't have the same 12:33 source control. Doesn't have the same 12:33 source control. Doesn't have the same ring to it, but you guys heard it here. 12:36 ring to it, but you guys heard it here. 12:36 ring to it, but you guys heard it here. Let's remember that. Okay, and then so 12:40 Let's remember that. Okay, and then so 12:40 Let's remember that. Okay, and then so I love how you say a lot on your pages, 12:43 I love how you say a lot on your pages, 12:44 I love how you say a lot on your pages, there's a difference between presence 12:46 there's a difference between presence 12:46 there's a difference between presence and exposure, right? So, um there on the 12:51 and exposure, right? So, um there on the 12:51 and exposure, right? So, um there on the flip side though, too, 12:53 flip side though, too, 12:53 flip side though, too, if you you don't have to see visible 12:56 if you you don't have to see visible 12:56 if you you don't have to see visible mold for it to be affecting your indoor 12:58 mold for it to be affecting your indoor 12:58 mold for it to be affecting your indoor air quality. So, just to underscore 13:01 air quality. So, just to underscore 13:01 air quality. So, just to underscore that, how can a home look clean, you 13:04 that, how can a home look clean, you 13:04 that, how can a home look clean, you know, be clean, you clean regularly, but 13:07 know, be clean, you clean regularly, but 13:07 know, be clean, you clean regularly, but still 13:14 >> Well, most of the problem most of the 13:14 >> Well, most of the problem most of the areas that uh don't dry well 13:17 areas that uh don't dry well 13:17 areas that uh don't dry well are are the ones that grow mold. Right? 13:19 are are the ones that grow mold. Right? 13:19 are are the ones that grow mold. Right? Cuz if it's it's staying wet. Um and 13:22 Cuz if it's it's staying wet. Um and 13:22 Cuz if it's it's staying wet. Um and most of the areas that don't dry well 13:23 most of the areas that don't dry well 13:23 most of the areas that don't dry well are the ones that are inside of walls 13:26 are the ones that are inside of walls 13:26 are the ones that are inside of walls and places you can't see and so um most 13:29 and places you can't see and so um most 13:29 and places you can't see and so um most often we find what people would call 13:31 often we find what people would call 13:31 often we find what people would call hidden mold 13:32 hidden mold 13:32 hidden mold you know in walls underneath your 13:33 you know in walls underneath your 13:33 you know in walls underneath your kitchen sink and all these areas can 13:36 kitchen sink and all these areas can 13:36 kitchen sink and all these areas can grow mold that isn't easily obvious but 13:39 grow mold that isn't easily obvious but 13:39 grow mold that isn't easily obvious but it could still affect the air quality. 13:41 it could still affect the air quality. 13:41 it could still affect the air quality. And yes, it may be in a wall and it may 13:44 And yes, it may be in a wall and it may 13:44 And yes, it may be in a wall and it may be less exposure than if it was on the 13:45 be less exposure than if it was on the 13:46 be less exposure than if it was on the surface of the wall but we still have 13:48 surface of the wall but we still have 13:48 surface of the wall but we still have air flow and balances pressure and 13:50 air flow and balances pressure and 13:50 air flow and balances pressure and balances in the house that can cause 13:52 balances in the house that can cause 13:52 balances in the house that can cause forces to pull that stuff in from the 13:55 forces to pull that stuff in from the 13:55 forces to pull that stuff in from the wall cavities from the kitchen sink from 13:58 wall cavities from the kitchen sink from 13:58 wall cavities from the kitchen sink from wherever it is into the breathing space 14:00 wherever it is into the breathing space 14:00 wherever it is into the breathing space and so anything that can get into the 14:02 and so anything that can get into the 14:02 and so anything that can get into the breathing space that's a pollutant is 14:03 breathing space that's a pollutant is 14:03 breathing space that's a pollutant is technically an exposure risk. Now the 14:06 technically an exposure risk. Now the 14:06 technically an exposure risk. Now the presence versus exposure is huge because 14:09 presence versus exposure is huge because 14:09 presence versus exposure is huge because we need to know 14:10 we need to know 14:10 we need to know Okay, we know that there's a presence of 14:12 Okay, we know that there's a presence of 14:12 Okay, we know that there's a presence of mold 14:13 mold 14:13 mold but we also as an indoor 14:14 but we also as an indoor 14:14 but we also as an indoor environmentalist I have to understand 14:15 environmentalist I have to understand 14:15 environmentalist I have to understand what the exposure risk is of that. So 14:18 what the exposure risk is of that. So 14:18 what the exposure risk is of that. So for example 14:20 for example 14:20 for example if I had a very large amount of mold 14:22 if I had a very large amount of mold 14:22 if I had a very large amount of mold underneath your tile flooring 14:25 underneath your tile flooring 14:25 underneath your tile flooring well if your tile flooring is completely 14:27 well if your tile flooring is completely 14:27 well if your tile flooring is completely sealed the exposure risk of that could 14:29 sealed the exposure risk of that could 14:29 sealed the exposure risk of that could be actually quite low even though it's a 14:30 be actually quite low even though it's a 14:30 be actually quite low even though it's a large amount because it's not getting 14:32 large amount because it's not getting 14:32 large amount because it's not getting into your breathing space. 14:34 into your breathing space. 14:34 into your breathing space. And that is also true of the mycotoxins 14:36 And that is also true of the mycotoxins 14:36 And that is also true of the mycotoxins a lot of people think mycotoxins can 14:37 a lot of people think mycotoxins can 14:37 a lot of people think mycotoxins can just like perfuse through things and 14:39 just like perfuse through things and 14:39 just like perfuse through things and that's that's not true. 14:41 that's that's not true. 14:41 that's that's not true. Mycotoxins are typically which we can 14:42 Mycotoxins are typically which we can 14:42 Mycotoxins are typically which we can talk about later but mycotoxins are are 14:45 talk about later but mycotoxins are are 14:45 talk about later but mycotoxins are are not of not a gas right they're bound to 14:48 not of not a gas right they're bound to 14:48 not of not a gas right they're bound to the fungal fragment or structure or 14:49 the fungal fragment or structure or 14:49 the fungal fragment or structure or spore and so we don't really see that 14:52 spore and so we don't really see that 14:52 spore and so we don't really see that happening but it doesn't mean the 14:54 happening but it doesn't mean the 14:54 happening but it doesn't mean the exposure is zero it just means that it's 14:56 exposure is zero it just means that it's 14:56 exposure is zero it just means that it's it's less than if it were you know 14:58 it's less than if it were you know 14:58 it's less than if it were you know exposed. Now 15:00 exposed. Now 15:01 exposed. Now you might look at a large amount of mold 15:02 you might look at a large amount of mold 15:02 you might look at a large amount of mold underneath tile and say the exposure 15:04 underneath tile and say the exposure 15:04 underneath tile and say the exposure risk is is lower but a small amount of 15:07 risk is is lower but a small amount of 15:07 risk is is lower but a small amount of mold in your HVAC system like on your 15:09 mold in your HVAC system like on your 15:09 mold in your HVAC system like on your vents or in your ducts could be a large 15:11 vents or in your ducts could be a large 15:11 vents or in your ducts could be a large exposure risk because of where it is. So 15:15 exposure risk because of where it is. So 15:15 exposure risk because of where it is. So whenever you have an environmentalist in 15:16 whenever you have an environmentalist in 15:16 whenever you have an environmentalist in there you have to you have to really 15:20 there you have to you have to really 15:20 there you have to you have to really like ask them are you considering what 15:22 like ask them are you considering what 15:22 like ask them are you considering what the exposure risk is to these things? 15:24 the exposure risk is to these things? 15:24 the exposure risk is to these things? Right? Um because if you just swab in 15:27 Right? Um because if you just swab in 15:27 Right? Um because if you just swab in the back of a kitchen cabinet and it 15:29 the back of a kitchen cabinet and it 15:29 the back of a kitchen cabinet and it shows some dangerous mold, that doesn't 15:32 shows some dangerous mold, that doesn't 15:32 shows some dangerous mold, that doesn't tell me how much I'm breathing that in. 15:34 tell me how much I'm breathing that in. 15:34 tell me how much I'm breathing that in. Especially if the cabinets are staying 15:35 Especially if the cabinets are staying 15:35 Especially if the cabinets are staying closed, we don't really use it too much, 15:37 closed, we don't really use it too much, 15:37 closed, we don't really use it too much, we're all the way on the other side of 15:37 we're all the way on the other side of 15:37 we're all the way on the other side of that the house. What's the exposure risk 15:40 that the house. What's the exposure risk 15:40 that the house. What's the exposure risk of that? And so, um so that's kind of 15:42 of that? And so, um so that's kind of 15:42 of that? And so, um so that's kind of huge. But, a lot of people will think, 15:44 huge. But, a lot of people will think, 15:44 huge. But, a lot of people will think, "Well, just because it's not in my sight 15:45 "Well, just because it's not in my sight 15:45 "Well, just because it's not in my sight doesn't mean it it just means that it's 15:47 doesn't mean it it just means that it's 15:47 doesn't mean it it just means that it's it's not going to affect the air 15:48 it's not going to affect the air 15:48 it's not going to affect the air quality." Well, that's not true at all. 15:50 quality." Well, that's not true at all. 15:50 quality." Well, that's not true at all. We do pressure and balance testing all 15:52 We do pressure and balance testing all 15:52 We do pressure and balance testing all the time and we always see air coming 15:54 the time and we always see air coming 15:54 the time and we always see air coming out of wall cavities and underneath 15:56 out of wall cavities and underneath 15:56 out of wall cavities and underneath cabinets and stuff. So, so it's all it's 15:58 cabinets and stuff. So, so it's all it's 15:58 cabinets and stuff. So, so it's all it's always possible. The question is how 15:59 always possible. The question is how 15:59 always possible. The question is how much? 16:01 much? 16:01 much? >> Absolutely. I think it's so important 16:03 >> Absolutely. I think it's so important 16:03 >> Absolutely. I think it's so important from the clinical side, too. That's what 16:05 from the clinical side, too. That's what 16:05 from the clinical side, too. That's what I often investigate with people when I'm 16:07 I often investigate with people when I'm 16:07 I often investigate with people when I'm consulting is, okay, if there's a 16:10 consulting is, okay, if there's a 16:10 consulting is, okay, if there's a family, say, and there's a one child is 16:13 family, say, and there's a one child is 16:13 family, say, and there's a one child is more affected than anyone else, you 16:14 more affected than anyone else, you 16:15 more affected than anyone else, you know, maybe it was because the mold was 16:17 know, maybe it was because the mold was 16:17 know, maybe it was because the mold was literally behind the wall that they were 16:19 literally behind the wall that they were 16:19 literally behind the wall that they were sleeping next to or things like that. 16:22 sleeping next to or things like that. 16:22 sleeping next to or things like that. And it was this, you know, giant slab of 16:24 And it was this, you know, giant slab of 16:24 And it was this, you know, giant slab of mold there versus whole other end of the 16:26 mold there versus whole other end of the 16:26 mold there versus whole other end of the house and maybe it wasn't really so much 16:29 house and maybe it wasn't really so much 16:29 house and maybe it wasn't really so much of an exposure. And of course, there's a 16:31 of an exposure. And of course, there's a 16:31 of an exposure. And of course, there's a whole bunch of other factors in, you 16:33 whole bunch of other factors in, you 16:33 whole bunch of other factors in, you know, previous state of health and 16:34 know, previous state of health and 16:34 know, previous state of health and everything like that as far as how much 16:37 everything like that as far as how much 16:37 everything like that as far as how much mold is going to affect you clinically 16:39 mold is going to affect you clinically 16:39 mold is going to affect you clinically as far as symptoms go. Uh one of the top
How to Inspect a Home for Mold 16:42 as far as symptoms go. Uh one of the top 16:42 as far as symptoms go. Uh one of the top ones being how sensitive to mold are you 16:44 ones being how sensitive to mold are you 16:44 ones being how sensitive to mold are you because for some one person, you know, a 16:47 because for some one person, you know, a 16:47 because for some one person, you know, a small exposure could be totally fine. 16:50 small exposure could be totally fine. 16:50 small exposure could be totally fine. And for another person, it's going to 16:51 And for another person, it's going to 16:51 And for another person, it's going to trigger a mast cell flare. So, 16:54 trigger a mast cell flare. So, 16:54 trigger a mast cell flare. So, definitely important to weigh all those 16:56 definitely important to weigh all those 16:57 definitely important to weigh all those variables with the pros. 16:59 variables with the pros. 16:59 variables with the pros. So, for somebody who is already sick and 17:02 So, for somebody who is already sick and 17:02 So, for somebody who is already sick and potentially very overwhelmed by this 17:05 potentially very overwhelmed by this 17:05 potentially very overwhelmed by this whole mold, biotoxins, all this whole, 17:08 whole mold, biotoxins, all this whole, 17:08 whole mold, biotoxins, all this whole, you know, all this info, what is the 17:10 you know, all this info, what is the 17:10 you know, all this info, what is the hierarchy when checking a home? And I 17:12 hierarchy when checking a home? And I 17:13 hierarchy when checking a home? And I know, again, it's in your course as 17:15 know, again, it's in your course as 17:15 know, again, it's in your course as well. But, what are the first like, most 17:17 well. But, what are the first like, most 17:17 well. But, what are the first like, most urgent things to check before they go 17:20 urgent things to check before they go 17:20 urgent things to check before they go start spending money on tests and 17:21 start spending money on tests and 17:21 start spending money on tests and things? 17:23 things? 17:23 things? >> Well, um 17:24 >> Well, um 17:24 >> Well, um I would probably say 17:26 I would probably say 17:26 I would probably say you never want to just start with a 17:27 you never want to just start with a 17:27 you never want to just start with a test. 17:29 test. 17:29 test. That's never the best way to go. 17:31 That's never the best way to go. 17:31 That's never the best way to go. If you suspect that you have a mold 17:32 If you suspect that you have a mold 17:32 If you suspect that you have a mold issue in your house, whether it be 17:33 issue in your house, whether it be 17:33 issue in your house, whether it be symptomatic or things that you're 17:34 symptomatic or things that you're 17:34 symptomatic or things that you're seeing, sensing, smelling in the home, 17:37 seeing, sensing, smelling in the home, 17:37 seeing, sensing, smelling in the home, uh 17:37 uh 17:37 uh the first line of defense would be an 17:39 the first line of defense would be an 17:39 the first line of defense would be an inspection, 17:41 inspection, 17:41 inspection, a visual inspection. Now, the hard part 17:42 a visual inspection. Now, the hard part 17:42 a visual inspection. Now, the hard part is finding the right person. 17:45 is finding the right person. 17:45 is finding the right person. Right? That's a whole different 17:46 Right? That's a whole different 17:46 Right? That's a whole different conversation, and I know that that's a 17:47 conversation, and I know that that's a 17:47 conversation, and I know that that's a problem. And I tell people, "Hey, you 17:50 problem. And I tell people, "Hey, you 17:50 problem. And I tell people, "Hey, you got to start with a thorough 17:51 got to start with a thorough 17:51 got to start with a thorough inspection." And usually the answer is, 17:53 inspection." And usually the answer is, 17:53 inspection." And usually the answer is, "Well, Brantley, it's hard to find 17:55 "Well, Brantley, it's hard to find 17:55 "Well, Brantley, it's hard to find someone that knows what they're looking 17:57 someone that knows what they're looking 17:57 someone that knows what they're looking for, that's going to be thorough, blah 17:58 for, that's going to be thorough, blah 17:58 for, that's going to be thorough, blah blah blah." That's why we created the 17:59 blah blah." That's why we created the 17:59 blah blah." That's why we created the homeowner course on how to find it 18:00 homeowner course on how to find it 18:00 homeowner course on how to find it yourself. But, that is the that is the 18:03 yourself. But, that is the that is the 18:03 yourself. But, that is the that is the first step, right? Um it would almost be 18:05 first step, right? Um it would almost be 18:05 first step, right? Um it would almost be like 18:07 like 18:07 like if someone in your field of work, right? 18:09 if someone in your field of work, right? 18:09 if someone in your field of work, right? Um 18:09 Um 18:10 Um if a patient was starting to not feel 18:12 if a patient was starting to not feel 18:12 if a patient was starting to not feel good, and they're like, "Oh, man, I'm 18:14 good, and they're like, "Oh, man, I'm 18:14 good, and they're like, "Oh, man, I'm not feeling good. I'm having these 18:15 not feeling good. I'm having these 18:15 not feeling good. I'm having these symptoms, whatever." 18:17 symptoms, whatever." 18:17 symptoms, whatever." I I think the wrong question would be 18:18 I I think the wrong question would be 18:18 I I think the wrong question would be like, "Well, what test should I start 18:19 like, "Well, what test should I start 18:19 like, "Well, what test should I start with?" 18:20 with?" 18:20 with?" The The real The real question is, 18:22 The The real The real question is, 18:22 The The real The real question is, "Where do I find 18:24 "Where do I find 18:24 "Where do I find a doctor or a nurse practitioner or a 18:26 a doctor or a nurse practitioner or a 18:26 a doctor or a nurse practitioner or a functional whatever practitioner that 18:28 functional whatever practitioner that 18:28 functional whatever practitioner that can actually listen to me, understand 18:30 can actually listen to me, understand 18:30 can actually listen to me, understand what my symptoms are, and guide me on 18:33 what my symptoms are, and guide me on 18:33 what my symptoms are, and guide me on the right path, on the right test to do, 18:35 the right path, on the right test to do, 18:35 the right path, on the right test to do, on the right protocol?" And that is the 18:38 on the right protocol?" And that is the 18:38 on the right protocol?" And that is the same thing with the indoor environment. 18:39 same thing with the indoor environment. 18:39 same thing with the indoor environment. You can't just do a DIY test and it 18:41 You can't just do a DIY test and it 18:41 You can't just do a DIY test and it gives you all the answers because there 18:43 gives you all the answers because there 18:43 gives you all the answers because there is no single test that's going to give 18:44 is no single test that's going to give 18:44 is no single test that's going to give you all the answers, just like there's 18:46 you all the answers, just like there's 18:46 you all the answers, just like there's no single test in medicine that's going 18:48 no single test in medicine that's going 18:48 no single test in medicine that's going to give you all the answers. Imagine if 18:50 to give you all the answers. Imagine if 18:50 to give you all the answers. Imagine if me, if I went into an environment and I 18:52 me, if I went into an environment and I 18:52 me, if I went into an environment and I and they gave me symptoms and I said, 18:53 and they gave me symptoms and I said, 18:53 and they gave me symptoms and I said, "Oh, man, 18:54 "Oh, man, 18:54 "Oh, man, yeah, yeah, this is making you sick. You 18:56 yeah, yeah, this is making you sick. You 18:56 yeah, yeah, this is making you sick. You should go check your thyroid 18:57 should go check your thyroid 18:57 should go check your thyroid antibodies." 18:58 antibodies." 18:58 antibodies." You know what I mean? Like, and that's 19:00 You know what I mean? Like, and that's 19:00 You know what I mean? Like, and that's the only thing they check. 19:01 the only thing they check. 19:01 the only thing they check. It's not going to give them a full 19:02 It's not going to give them a full 19:02 It's not going to give them a full picture. You got to You got to do a good 19:04 picture. You got to You got to do a good 19:04 picture. You got to You got to do a good assessment of what's going on, and then 19:06 assessment of what's going on, and then 19:06 assessment of what's going on, and then create a good plan holistically, and you 19:08 create a good plan holistically, and you 19:08 create a good plan holistically, and you can't do that with a single test. 19:10 can't do that with a single test. 19:10 can't do that with a single test. >> Absolutely. Yeah, so true. I think 19:13 >> Absolutely. Yeah, so true. I think 19:13 >> Absolutely. Yeah, so true. I think that's one of the most common questions 19:15 that's one of the most common questions 19:15 that's one of the most common questions I get and probably what you get as well. 19:17 I get and probably what you get as well. 19:17 I get and probably what you get as well. I feel 19:19 I feel 19:19 I feel sick, you know, what test should I do to 19:21 sick, you know, what test should I do to 19:21 sick, you know, what test should I do to check for mold? And that's why I'm like, 19:23 check for mold? And that's why I'm like, 19:23 check for mold? And that's why I'm like, okay, here is the info you really need 19:25 okay, here is the info you really need 19:26 okay, here is the info you really need an evaluation. That's why I send people 19:27 an evaluation. That's why I send people 19:28 an evaluation. That's why I send people to my symptoms quiz first. And I'm like, 19:29 to my symptoms quiz first. And I'm like, 19:29 to my symptoms quiz first. And I'm like, my question back to you is what are your 19:31 my question back to you is what are your 19:31 my question back to you is what are your symptoms, right? Because I don't know 19:34 symptoms, right? Because I don't know 19:34 symptoms, right? Because I don't know what test you really need until I know 19:36 what test you really need until I know 19:36 what test you really need until I know what's going on with you. You may need a 19:39 what's going on with you. You may need a 19:39 what's going on with you. You may need a few different tests or we may not want 19:42 few different tests or we may not want 19:42 few different tests or we may not want to start with testing at all. So,

Well, the the course is for people that 20:26 Well, the the course is for people that 20:26 Well, the the course is for people that have a lot of pain points with finding 20:28 have a lot of pain points with finding 20:28 have a lot of pain points with finding the right assessor. 20:30 the right assessor. 20:30 the right assessor. Um 20:31 Um 20:32 Um finding a assessor they can afford, 20:34 finding a assessor they can afford, 20:34 finding a assessor they can afford, right? Maybe they can't afford an 20:35 right? Maybe they can't afford an 20:35 right? Maybe they can't afford an assessor. 20:36 assessor. 20:36 assessor. Maybe it's 20:38 Maybe it's 20:38 Maybe it's logistical challenges, right? I'm I'm 20:39 logistical challenges, right? I'm I'm 20:39 logistical challenges, right? I'm I'm trying to find a rental. I'm trying to 20:40 trying to find a rental. I'm trying to 20:40 trying to find a rental. I'm trying to find a home. I can't get someone to 20:42 find a home. I can't get someone to 20:42 find a home. I can't get someone to inspect a rental when we're looking at 20:45 inspect a rental when we're looking at 20:45 inspect a rental when we're looking at two or three of them a day. You know 20:46 two or three of them a day. You know 20:46 two or three of them a day. You know what I mean? It's just not logistically 20:48 what I mean? It's just not logistically 20:48 what I mean? It's just not logistically possible. Um or it's a preliminary like 20:51 possible. Um or it's a preliminary like 20:51 possible. Um or it's a preliminary like before I spend a whole bunch of money on 20:52 before I spend a whole bunch of money on 20:52 before I spend a whole bunch of money on this thing, 20:54 this thing, 20:54 this thing, I'd like to get just a scope and see 20:56 I'd like to get just a scope and see 20:56 I'd like to get just a scope and see what's going on. Uh maybe it's someone 20:57 what's going on. Uh maybe it's someone 20:57 what's going on. Uh maybe it's someone that's curious and they just want to 20:58 that's curious and they just want to 20:58 that's curious and they just want to know more about how to empower 21:00 know more about how to empower 21:00 know more about how to empower themselves when they do talk to 21:02 themselves when they do talk to 21:02 themselves when they do talk to professionals, right? I guarantee you um 21:05 professionals, right? I guarantee you um 21:05 professionals, right? I guarantee you um if you took our DIY course on how to 21:08 if you took our DIY course on how to 21:08 if you took our DIY course on how to find moisture and mold, which teaches 21:10 find moisture and mold, which teaches 21:10 find moisture and mold, which teaches you the the moisture meter, the you 21:12 you the the moisture meter, the you 21:12 you the the moisture meter, the you know, the the flashlight techniques and 21:14 know, the the flashlight techniques and 21:14 know, the the flashlight techniques and what to look for and what you need to 21:15 what to look for and what you need to 21:15 what to look for and what you need to do, you're going to have a really good 21:16 do, you're going to have a really good 21:16 do, you're going to have a really good idea of what it takes to do a good mold 21:18 idea of what it takes to do a good mold 21:18 idea of what it takes to do a good mold inspection. And then when you ask when 21:20 inspection. And then when you ask when 21:20 inspection. And then when you ask when you call a a mold inspection specialist, 21:23 you call a a mold inspection specialist, 21:23 you call a a mold inspection specialist, right? A mold assessor, a mold 21:25 right? A mold assessor, a mold 21:25 right? A mold assessor, a mold remediator, you'll have so much 21:26 remediator, you'll have so much 21:27 remediator, you'll have so much knowledge on what that looks like and 21:28 knowledge on what that looks like and 21:28 knowledge on what that looks like and you'll know exactly what to ask, what 21:30 you'll know exactly what to ask, what 21:30 you'll know exactly what to ask, what questions are like their answers, if 21:32 questions are like their answers, if 21:32 questions are like their answers, if they're good answers or bad answers and 21:34 they're good answers or bad answers and 21:34 they're good answers or bad answers and and so it's it's really just for a 21:36 and so it's it's really just for a 21:36 and so it's it's really just for a holistic view of like what do I need to 21:39 holistic view of like what do I need to 21:39 holistic view of like what do I need to do? But at the end of the day, what it's 21:41 do? But at the end of the day, what it's 21:41 do? But at the end of the day, what it's actually designed for is boots on the 21:43 actually designed for is boots on the 21:43 actually designed for is boots on the ground inspection. Like how do I find 21:46 ground inspection. Like how do I find 21:46 ground inspection. Like how do I find the moisture and mold? Uh, the problem 21:48 the moisture and mold? Uh, the problem 21:48 the moisture and mold? Uh, the problem that we had and the reason we created 21:49 that we had and the reason we created 21:49 that we had and the reason we created the course is because there's so many 21:51 the course is because there's so many 21:51 the course is because there's so many courses out there um, vast majority 21:54 courses out there um, vast majority 21:54 courses out there um, vast majority aren't online and the other ones are 21:56 aren't online and the other ones are 21:56 aren't online and the other ones are just someone with a PowerPoint or 21:58 just someone with a PowerPoint or 21:58 just someone with a PowerPoint or talking to a camera and teaching and 22:00 talking to a camera and teaching and 22:00 talking to a camera and teaching and it's good information but it's all 22:02 it's good information but it's all 22:02 it's good information but it's all conceptual. Like here are the different 22:04 conceptual. Like here are the different 22:04 conceptual. Like here are the different types of mold and here then this one has 22:07 types of mold and here then this one has 22:07 types of mold and here then this one has a That's not important. A homeowner 22:08 a That's not important. A homeowner 22:09 a That's not important. A homeowner needs to know where do I find it, right? 22:11 needs to know where do I find it, right? 22:11 needs to know where do I find it, right? What do I look for? Where are the 22:12 What do I look for? Where are the 22:12 What do I look for? Where are the building flaws? How do I find the 22:13 building flaws? How do I find the 22:14 building flaws? How do I find the moisture and the mold? And that's what 22:16 moisture and the mold? And that's what 22:16 moisture and the mold? And that's what the course is for. It's very, very boots 22:18 the course is for. It's very, very boots 22:18 the course is for. It's very, very boots on the ground. That's why like um, and 22:20 on the ground. That's why like um, and 22:20 on the ground. That's why like um, and you've you've went through the course, 22:21 you've you've went through the course, 22:21 you've you've went through the course, you completed the course. You know, it's 22:23 you completed the course. You know, it's 22:23 you completed the course. You know, it's mostly like in the field, right? We're 22:26 mostly like in the field, right? We're 22:26 mostly like in the field, right? We're we're in the house, we're in the attic, 22:27 we're in the house, we're in the attic, 22:27 we're in the house, we're in the attic, we're in the crawl space, we're 22:28 we're in the crawl space, we're 22:28 we're in the crawl space, we're whatever, like showing you this right 22:31 whatever, like showing you this right 22:31 whatever, like showing you this right here. Look for this. And um, and so we 22:34 here. Look for this. And um, and so we 22:34 here. Look for this. And um, and so we we wanted that because I'm going to be 22:36 we wanted that because I'm going to be 22:36 we wanted that because I'm going to be honest, it doesn't matter like you I 22:38 honest, it doesn't matter like you I 22:38 honest, it doesn't matter like you I don't need to teach you for 2 hours on 22:40 don't need to teach you for 2 hours on 22:40 don't need to teach you for 2 hours on different types of mold. You just need 22:42 different types of mold. You just need 22:42 different types of mold. You just need to know how to find it, right? And so 22:44 to know how to find it, right? And so 22:44 to know how to find it, right? And so that's that's kind of what it was all 22:46 that's that's kind of what it was all 22:46 that's that's kind of what it was all about is just let's get down and dirty, 22:48 about is just let's get down and dirty, 22:48 about is just let's get down and dirty, let's make it as quick as possible, give 22:50 let's make it as quick as possible, give 22:50 let's make it as quick as possible, give them 90% of what they need to know in 3 22:53 them 90% of what they need to know in 3 22:53 them 90% of what they need to know in 3 and 1/2 hours with all these like little 22:55 and 1/2 hours with all these like little 22:55 and 1/2 hours with all these like little bite-sized videos on how to find mold in 22:58 bite-sized videos on how to find mold in 22:58 bite-sized videos on how to find mold in their house. And this is is to be a 23:00 their house. And this is is to be a 23:00 their house. And this is is to be a lifelong skill. So that way when you go 23:02 lifelong skill. So that way when you go 23:02 lifelong skill. So that way when you go look for the new house, the rental, or 23:04 look for the new house, the rental, or 23:04 look for the new house, the rental, or you go to your mom's house, you go to 23:05 you go to your mom's house, you go to 23:05 you go to your mom's house, you go to your daughter's house, or whatever, you 23:07 your daughter's house, or whatever, you 23:07 your daughter's house, or whatever, you can bring those skills and say, "That's 23:09 can bring those skills and say, "That's 23:09 can bring those skills and say, "That's not good. That's not good. That's not 23:10 not good. That's not good. That's not 23:10 not good. That's not good. That's not good." And we've seen that time and time 23:12 good." And we've seen that time and time 23:12 good." And we've seen that time and time again from testimonials that people have 23:14 again from testimonials that people have 23:14 again from testimonials that people have reached out to us and they're like, "Oh 23:16 reached out to us and they're like, "Oh 23:16 reached out to us and they're like, "Oh my gosh, like, you know, I've went 23:18 my gosh, like, you know, I've went 23:18 my gosh, like, you know, I've went through five, 10 rentals and I was just 23:19 through five, 10 rentals and I was just 23:19 through five, 10 rentals and I was just like, 'No. No. No. No. No.'" And uh we 23:22 like, 'No. No. No. No. No.'" And uh we 23:22 like, 'No. No. No. No. No.'" And uh we finally found one that we feel good and 23:24 finally found one that we feel good and 23:24 finally found one that we feel good and we decided that we were going to bring 23:25 we decided that we were going to bring 23:25 we decided that we were going to bring someone in. And that's awesome. Like, I 23:27 someone in. And that's awesome. Like, I 23:27 someone in. And that's awesome. Like, I even actually had someone else, my video 23:29 even actually had someone else, my video 23:29 even actually had someone else, my video producer, tell me the same thing. They 23:31 producer, tell me the same thing. They 23:31 producer, tell me the same thing. They ended up feeling comfortable enough just 23:32 ended up feeling comfortable enough just 23:33 ended up feeling comfortable enough just to move forward with putting a contract 23:34 to move forward with putting a contract 23:34 to move forward with putting a contract on the rental, but they said no to like 23:37 on the rental, but they said no to like 23:37 on the rental, but they said no to like 15 rentals before that. They didn't need 23:39 15 rentals before that. They didn't need 23:39 15 rentals before that. They didn't need to do a single test on them. They didn't 23:40 to do a single test on them. They didn't 23:40 to do a single test on them. They didn't have to wait for a uh ERMI to get back 23:42 have to wait for a uh ERMI to get back 23:42 have to wait for a uh ERMI to get back on like, you know, they just he went in 23:44 on like, you know, they just he went in 23:44 on like, you know, they just he went in and he said, "I don't like the way the 23:46 and he said, "I don't like the way the 23:46 and he said, "I don't like the way the gutters are. The windows aren't good. I 23:47 gutters are. The windows aren't good. I 23:47 gutters are. The windows aren't good. I found this water damage issue under the 23:48 found this water damage issue under the 23:48 found this water damage issue under the kitchen sink. Nope. Next." And and 23:51 kitchen sink. Nope. Next." And and 23:51 kitchen sink. Nope. Next." And and that's what we want. We want people to 23:52 that's what we want. We want people to 23:52 that's what we want. We want people to be able to empower themselves to find 23:54 be able to empower themselves to find 23:54 be able to empower themselves to find their own issues and make educated 23:56 their own issues and make educated 23:56 their own issues and make educated decisions 23:58 decisions 23:58 decisions at a reasonable cost. We don't want you 23:59 at a reasonable cost. We don't want you 23:59 at a reasonable cost. We don't want you to have to spend a thousand bucks on an 24:00 to have to spend a thousand bucks on an 24:00 to have to spend a thousand bucks on an assessment every time. 24:02 assessment every time. 24:02 assessment every time. >> Right. Yeah, or all these ERMI tests and 24:05 >> Right. Yeah, or all these ERMI tests and 24:05 >> Right. Yeah, or all these ERMI tests and everything really add up. And like you 24:06 everything really add up. And like you 24:06 everything really add up. And like you said, waiting for results. Yeah, so I 24:09 said, waiting for results. Yeah, so I 24:09 said, waiting for results. Yeah, so I took the course and 24:11 took the course and 24:11 took the course and I have to admit when I first signed into 24:13 I have to admit when I first signed into 24:13 I have to admit when I first signed into it, I thought, "Okay, well, I'll just 24:15 it, I thought, "Okay, well, I'll just 24:15 it, I thought, "Okay, well, I'll just kind of, you know, do this while I'm 24:17 kind of, you know, do this while I'm 24:17 kind of, you know, do this while I'm doing other things or I'll come back to 24:19 doing other things or I'll come back to 24:19 doing other things or I'll come back to it every now and then and maybe finish 24:21 it every now and then and maybe finish 24:21 it every now and then and maybe finish it eventually." 24:22 it eventually." 24:22 it eventually." Um cuz I didn't need it, you know, 24:23 Um cuz I didn't need it, you know, 24:24 Um cuz I didn't need it, you know, personally immediately, but I actually, 24:26 personally immediately, but I actually, 24:26 personally immediately, but I actually, you know, binge-watched the whole thing 24:28 you know, binge-watched the whole thing 24:28 you know, binge-watched the whole thing because it was so captivating and 24:31 because it was so captivating and 24:31 because it was so captivating and actually so, so useful. 24:33 actually so, so useful. 24:33 actually so, so useful. Um so, as someone who has several 24:35 Um so, as someone who has several 24:35 Um so, as someone who has several courses online, I would say uh I was 24:37 courses online, I would say uh I was 24:37 courses online, I would say uh I was really impressed by all the all the 24:40 really impressed by all the all the 24:40 really impressed by all the all the practical info. And for those of you 24:43 practical info. And for those of you 24:43 practical info. And for those of you listening who who may be thinking, 24:44 listening who who may be thinking, 24:44 listening who who may be thinking, "Okay, so 24:45 "Okay, so 24:45 "Okay, so what exactly is in this course?" 24:47 what exactly is in this course?" 24:47 what exactly is in this course?" Something that you didn't mention that I 24:49 Something that you didn't mention that I 24:49 Something that you didn't mention that I think is so useful is the checklist. 24:52 think is so useful is the checklist. 24:52 think is so useful is the checklist. Like, the just that checklist you can 24:54 Like, the just that checklist you can 24:54 Like, the just that checklist you can just take with you in the resources. Of 24:55 just take with you in the resources. Of 24:55 just take with you in the resources. Of course, go through the videos, but in 24:58 course, go through the videos, but in 24:58 course, go through the videos, but in the resources there are checklists and 24:59 the resources there are checklists and 25:00 the resources there are checklists and things that you can take with you and 25:01 things that you can take with you and 25:01 things that you can take with you and just kind of go down when you don't want 25:03 just kind of go down when you don't want 25:03 just kind of go down when you don't want to like open up the video and and have 25:05 to like open up the video and and have 25:05 to like open up the video and and have it, you know, playing with you. But and 25:08 it, you know, playing with you. But and 25:08 it, you know, playing with you. But and I've already recommended this course to 25:10 I've already recommended this course to 25:10 I've already recommended this course to people. Especially, I have one client 25:13 people. Especially, I have one client 25:13 people. Especially, I have one client who is in that situation where she's 25:15 who is in that situation where she's 25:15 who is in that situation where she's looking for a new place. And she's like, 25:18 looking for a new place. And she's like, 25:18 looking for a new place. And she's like, this is, you know, exactly what I need 25:20 this is, you know, exactly what I need 25:20 this is, you know, exactly what I need to go ahead and look for places without 25:23 to go ahead and look for places without 25:23 to go ahead and look for places without having to test each one or feeling like, 25:26 having to test each one or feeling like, 25:26 having to test each one or feeling like, okay, well, I can't test each one. Now, 25:28 okay, well, I can't test each one. Now, 25:28 okay, well, I can't test each one. Now, do I just have to go in just hoping and 25:31 do I just have to go in just hoping and 25:32 do I just have to go in just hoping and praying that it's going to be okay or 25:33 praying that it's going to be okay or 25:33 praying that it's going to be okay or maybe I'll never find a safe place to 25:35 maybe I'll never find a safe place to 25:35 maybe I'll never find a safe place to live. You know, so I think it's really 25:38 live. You know, so I think it's really 25:38 live. You know, so I think it's really empowering for people. 25:40 empowering for people. 25:40 empowering for people. And it also has some of that mycology 25:41 And it also has some of that mycology 25:41 And it also has some of that mycology for those of you who like that. So, so 25:44 for those of you who like that. So, so 25:44 for those of you who like that. So, so love it and we will put the link to the 25:46 love it and we will put the link to the 25:46 love it and we will put the link to the course with a discount in the show 25:49 course with a discount in the show 25:49 course with a discount in the show notes. 25:50 notes. 25:51 notes. >> Yeah, that checklist took a lot of 25:53 >> Yeah, that checklist took a lot of 25:53 >> Yeah, that checklist took a lot of energy and a lot of time and trials, 25:56 energy and a lot of time and trials, 25:56 energy and a lot of time and trials, right? Like using it on houses and be 25:58 right? Like using it on houses and be 25:58 right? Like using it on houses and be like, no, we got to add this. No, we 25:59 like, no, we got to add this. No, we 25:59 like, no, we got to add this. No, we should remove this. It's too 26:00 should remove this. It's too 26:00 should remove this. It's too complicated. Because the whole time 26:02 complicated. Because the whole time 26:02 complicated. Because the whole time we're going through the course, we we 26:04 we're going through the course, we we 26:04 we're going through the course, we we made the course at a fifth grade level. 26:05 made the course at a fifth grade level. 26:05 made the course at a fifth grade level. That was our goal. Because we want 26:07 That was our goal. Because we want 26:07 That was our goal. Because we want everyone to understand it, right? Um 26:09 everyone to understand it, right? Um 26:09 everyone to understand it, right? Um that that means like the verbage, the 26:11 that that means like the verbage, the 26:11 that that means like the verbage, the type of 26:13 type of 26:13 type of technical information that we're 26:14 technical information that we're 26:14 technical information that we're providing. Like it almost has no 26:15 providing. Like it almost has no 26:15 providing. Like it almost has no technical information. And the 26:17 technical information. And the 26:17 technical information. And the checklist, too. Um how is the checklist 26:19 checklist, too. Um how is the checklist 26:19 checklist, too. Um how is the checklist going to be useful for someone that, 26:21 going to be useful for someone that, 26:21 going to be useful for someone that, let's pretend they never even watched 26:22 let's pretend they never even watched 26:22 let's pretend they never even watched the course. 26:24 the course. 26:24 the course. Could they use this to get an idea of 26:26 Could they use this to get an idea of 26:26 Could they use this to get an idea of what's going on in their house? And 26:27 what's going on in their house? And 26:27 what's going on in their house? And that's really hard when you're trying to 26:28 that's really hard when you're trying to 26:28 that's really hard when you're trying to put something on a checklist to say, 26:30 put something on a checklist to say, 26:30 put something on a checklist to say, for example, check the gutters, right? 26:32 for example, check the gutters, right? 26:32 for example, check the gutters, right? Well, what am I supposed to be checking, 26:34 Well, what am I supposed to be checking, 26:34 Well, what am I supposed to be checking, right? And so, we had to make it not too 26:37 right? And so, we had to make it not too 26:37 right? And so, we had to make it not too specific, but also not too vague. And
Maintenance Tips: HVAC, Humidity, and Dehumidifiers 26:40 specific, but also not too vague. And 26:40 specific, but also not too vague. And and then you can mark green, yellow, 26:41 and then you can mark green, yellow, 26:41 and then you can mark green, yellow, red. Um and green, yellow, red is very 26:44 red. Um and green, yellow, red is very 26:44 red. Um and green, yellow, red is very subjective, but it was way better than 26:46 subjective, but it was way better than 26:46 subjective, but it was way better than some of the other options like problem, 26:48 some of the other options like problem, 26:48 some of the other options like problem, not problem or or give it a score. Like 26:50 not problem or or give it a score. Like 26:50 not problem or or give it a score. Like you can't do that. And then we we 26:53 you can't do that. And then we we 26:53 you can't do that. And then we we created it as a design to where you can 26:54 created it as a design to where you can 26:54 created it as a design to where you can actually put a description per issue. 26:57 actually put a description per issue. 26:57 actually put a description per issue. And then 26:58 And then 26:58 And then you can hold on to that as a Some people 27:01 you can hold on to that as a Some people 27:01 you can hold on to that as a Some people actually reached out and said like, 27:03 actually reached out and said like, 27:03 actually reached out and said like, "This is amazing as a like a 3-month 27:05 "This is amazing as a like a 3-month 27:05 "This is amazing as a like a 3-month thing. Like I'm going to do this every 27:07 thing. Like I'm going to do this every 27:07 thing. Like I'm going to do this every couple months as a maintenance on my 27:09 couple months as a maintenance on my 27:09 couple months as a maintenance on my house. And then I could see like if it's 27:11 house. And then I could see like if it's 27:11 house. And then I could see like if it's getting better, worse, or what's going 27:12 getting better, worse, or what's going 27:12 getting better, worse, or what's going on." And then other people said, "This 27:14 on." And then other people said, "This 27:14 on." And then other people said, "This is going to be amazing to hand to my my 27:16 is going to be amazing to hand to my my 27:16 is going to be amazing to hand to my my mold inspector and say these are the 27:17 mold inspector and say these are the 27:17 mold inspector and say these are the things that I identified." And um and so 27:21 things that I identified." And um and so 27:21 things that I identified." And um and so it's just yeah, the checklist was 27:22 it's just yeah, the checklist was 27:22 it's just yeah, the checklist was actually a lot more popular than I 27:23 actually a lot more popular than I 27:23 actually a lot more popular than I thought it would be. Um and then of 27:25 thought it would be. Um and then of 27:25 thought it would be. Um and then of course we have a lot of resources. 27:26 course we have a lot of resources. 27:26 course we have a lot of resources. >> That's immediately I remember texting 27:28 >> That's immediately I remember texting 27:28 >> That's immediately I remember texting you like, "Okay, this checklist is 27:29 you like, "Okay, this checklist is 27:29 you like, "Okay, this checklist is literally the best." 27:30 literally the best." 27:30 literally the best." >> Yeah, yeah. It It took a lot of time. 27:32 >> Yeah, yeah. It It took a lot of time. 27:32 >> Yeah, yeah. It It took a lot of time. Like it was like months to get that 27:34 Like it was like months to get that 27:34 Like it was like months to get that right. 27:35 right. 27:35 right. Um 27:35 Um 27:36 Um and then of course we got a lot of 27:36 and then of course we got a lot of 27:36 and then of course we got a lot of resources, too. I mean there's like over 27:38 resources, too. I mean there's like over 27:38 resources, too. I mean there's like over a thousand dollars worth of resources in 27:39 a thousand dollars worth of resources in 27:39 a thousand dollars worth of resources in there. I've pulled together my my my 27:42 there. I've pulled together my my my 27:42 there. I've pulled together my my my friends and my family, like not my real 27:45 friends and my family, like not my real 27:45 friends and my family, like not my real family, not my blood family, but like my 27:46 family, not my blood family, but like my 27:46 family, not my blood family, but like my family family, like John Skelly, Andrew 27:48 family family, like John Skelly, Andrew 27:48 family family, like John Skelly, Andrew Melrose, 27:50 Melrose, 27:50 Melrose, um Regan, some of these people in uh in 27:51 um Regan, some of these people in uh in 27:51 um Regan, some of these people in uh in the industry and they've been so kind. 27:53 the industry and they've been so kind. 27:53 the industry and they've been so kind. They're like, "Yeah, well, you know, 27:54 They're like, "Yeah, well, you know, 27:54 They're like, "Yeah, well, you know, we'll give them like discounts on our 27:56 we'll give them like discounts on our 27:56 we'll give them like discounts on our service, our virtual consults." And then 27:59 service, our virtual consults." And then 27:59 service, our virtual consults." And then my buddy Josh, he owns a lab in Fort 28:01 my buddy Josh, he owns a lab in Fort 28:01 my buddy Josh, he owns a lab in Fort Lauderdale. He's like, "Yeah, we'll do 28:03 Lauderdale. He's like, "Yeah, we'll do 28:03 Lauderdale. He's like, "Yeah, we'll do we'll do homeowner um testing for them. 28:05 we'll do homeowner um testing for them. 28:05 we'll do homeowner um testing for them. Yeah, and we'll give them free overnight 28:06 Yeah, and we'll give them free overnight 28:06 Yeah, and we'll give them free overnight shipping." Blah blah. And I was able to 28:08 shipping." Blah blah. And I was able to 28:08 shipping." Blah blah. And I was able to get all this stuff to provide and like 28:10 get all this stuff to provide and like 28:10 get all this stuff to provide and like $250 off one of my favorite air 28:12 $250 off one of my favorite air 28:12 $250 off one of my favorite air purifiers from my buddy Tanner. And just 28:14 purifiers from my buddy Tanner. And just 28:14 purifiers from my buddy Tanner. And just like we're like, "Oh my gosh, everyone's 28:16 like we're like, "Oh my gosh, everyone's 28:16 like we're like, "Oh my gosh, everyone's being so helpful." Boom, and we just 28:17 being so helpful." Boom, and we just 28:17 being so helpful." Boom, and we just slap it in there. 28:19 slap it in there. 28:19 slap it in there. No one was asking for anything in 28:20 No one was asking for anything in 28:20 No one was asking for anything in return. It's like not a kickback system. 28:23 return. It's like not a kickback system. 28:23 return. It's like not a kickback system. The only kickback thing I have on there 28:24 The only kickback thing I have on there 28:24 The only kickback thing I have on there is like my affiliate Amazon page because 28:28 is like my affiliate Amazon page because 28:28 is like my affiliate Amazon page because I had to make uh we made like a curated 28:31 I had to make uh we made like a curated 28:31 I had to make uh we made like a curated tool lists. And so we have curated tool 28:33 tool lists. And so we have curated tool 28:33 tool lists. And so we have curated tool you don't have to go find it. I went 28:35 you don't have to go find it. I went 28:35 you don't have to go find it. I went through and I'm not even joking. I went 28:37 through and I'm not even joking. I went 28:37 through and I'm not even joking. I went through eight moisture meters trying to 28:39 through eight moisture meters trying to 28:39 through eight moisture meters trying to figure out the right one. Not 28:40 figure out the right one. Not 28:40 figure out the right one. Not professional ones. 28:42 professional ones. 28:42 professional ones. Like I bought like eight moisture meters 28:43 Like I bought like eight moisture meters 28:44 Like I bought like eight moisture meters on Amazon saying, "Nope, that's not it. 28:45 on Amazon saying, "Nope, that's not it. 28:45 on Amazon saying, "Nope, that's not it. That's not it." And then we did the same 28:47 That's not it." And then we did the same 28:47 That's not it." And then we did the same thing with thermal imagers. We did the 28:48 thing with thermal imagers. We did the 28:48 thing with thermal imagers. We did the same thing with flashlights. I'm like, 28:49 same thing with flashlights. I'm like, 28:50 same thing with flashlights. I'm like, "What is the best thing?" And so we 28:51 "What is the best thing?" And so we 28:51 "What is the best thing?" Is Are there things that we should be 29:27 Is Are there things that we should be 29:27 Is Are there things that we should be checking in our homes like every That's 29:30 checking in our homes like every That's 29:30 checking in our homes like every That's a common question I get, too. How often 29:31 a common question I get, too. How often 29:31 a common question I get, too. How often should I be checking my filters, my 29:34 should I be checking my filters, my 29:34 should I be checking my filters, my this, my that? Like are there a couple 29:36 this, my that? Like are there a couple 29:36 this, my that? Like are there a couple things that people should put on their 29:38 things that people should put on their 29:38 things that people should put on their calendars for that sort of thing? 29:41 calendars for that sort of thing? 29:41 calendars for that sort of thing? >> Well, number one thing's going to be 29:42 >> Well, number one thing's going to be 29:42 >> Well, number one thing's going to be your HVAC and your water heater. 29:44 your HVAC and your water heater. 29:44 your HVAC and your water heater. The HVAC is things that you might not be 29:46 The HVAC is things that you might not be 29:46 The HVAC is things that you might not be able to check. Although we do teach you. 29:47 able to check. Although we do teach you. 29:47 able to check. Although we do teach you. We do show you how to check your coils 29:49 We do show you how to check your coils 29:49 We do show you how to check your coils homeowner friendly in the course. But um 29:52 homeowner friendly in the course. But um 29:52 homeowner friendly in the course. But um you know, maintenance-wise, 29:54 you know, maintenance-wise, 29:54 you know, maintenance-wise, HVAC's huge. 29:55 HVAC's huge. 29:55 HVAC's huge. Um that's like one of the number one 29:56 Um that's like one of the number one 29:56 Um that's like one of the number one things that we see failing or um or 29:59 things that we see failing or um or 29:59 things that we see failing or um or having mold issues. And I mean, I I 30:02 having mold issues. And I mean, I I 30:02 having mold issues. And I mean, I I might be a little bit different, but 30:03 might be a little bit different, but 30:03 might be a little bit different, but some people get them checked checked 30:05 some people get them checked checked 30:05 some people get them checked checked twice a year. I like to do it on the 30:06 twice a year. I like to do it on the 30:06 twice a year. I like to do it on the change of every season. So that's four 30:07 change of every season. So that's four 30:07 change of every season. So that's four times a year. And what are we looking 30:09 times a year. And what are we looking 30:09 times a year. And what are we looking for? Uh we're making sure that the 30:10 for? Uh we're making sure that the 30:10 for? Uh we're making sure that the filter is right. We're making sure that 30:12 filter is right. We're making sure that 30:12 filter is right. We're making sure that ducts haven't collapsed. Static pressure 30:13 ducts haven't collapsed. Static pressure 30:13 ducts haven't collapsed. Static pressure is good. That it's cooling and drying 30:15 is good. That it's cooling and drying 30:15 is good. That it's cooling and drying properly. That there's no mold in the in 30:16 properly. That there's no mold in the in 30:16 properly. That there's no mold in the in the unit. You know, that it's still 30:18 the unit. You know, that it's still 30:18 the unit. You know, that it's still sealed. Things aren't falling apart. 30:20 sealed. Things aren't falling apart. 30:20 sealed. Things aren't falling apart. Like just the regular basic stuff um 30:22 Like just the regular basic stuff um 30:22 Like just the regular basic stuff um that can turn into big problems. Um 30:25 that can turn into big problems. Um 30:25 that can turn into big problems. Um the one of the biggest problems that I 30:26 the one of the biggest problems that I 30:26 the one of the biggest problems that I see that are so easily fixed 30:29 see that are so easily fixed 30:29 see that are so easily fixed homeowners miss all the time is your 30:31 homeowners miss all the time is your 30:31 homeowners miss all the time is your condensate line. Right? During the 30:33 condensate line. Right? During the 30:33 condensate line. Right? During the summertime, your air conditioner is 30:35 summertime, your air conditioner is 30:35 summertime, your air conditioner is removing a lot of moisture out of the 30:36 removing a lot of moisture out of the 30:36 removing a lot of moisture out of the air and it goes out of that condensation 30:38 air and it goes out of that condensation 30:38 air and it goes out of that condensation line and they get clogged. And if you're 30:40 line and they get clogged. And if you're 30:40 line and they get clogged. And if you're not keeping up with that and you haven't 30:42 not keeping up with that and you haven't 30:42 not keeping up with that and you haven't touched it in a year, two years, three 30:43 touched it in a year, two years, three 30:43 touched it in a year, two years, three years to clear it and clean it, that is 30:46 years to clear it and clean it, that is 30:46 years to clear it and clean it, that is the biggest, most expensive mistake you 30:47 the biggest, most expensive mistake you 30:47 the biggest, most expensive mistake you could do when it takes, you know, a 30:49 could do when it takes, you know, a 30:49 could do when it takes, you know, a couple minutes and some vinegar, you 30:51 couple minutes and some vinegar, you 30:51 couple minutes and some vinegar, you know, to to just go in there and do that 30:53 know, to to just go in there and do that 30:53 know, to to just go in there and do that because we get called out to losses all 30:56 because we get called out to losses all 30:56 because we get called out to losses all the time and it was a $15,000 project 30:58 the time and it was a $15,000 project 30:58 the time and it was a $15,000 project because it overflowed, it went down into 31:01 because it overflowed, it went down into 31:01 because it overflowed, it went down into the first floor. Now you got to remove 31:02 the first floor. Now you got to remove 31:03 the first floor. Now you got to remove all the ceiling and all the flooring in 31:04 all the ceiling and all the flooring in 31:04 all the ceiling and all the flooring in the second floor and then like the house 31:06 the second floor and then like the house 31:06 the second floor and then like the house got contaminated cuz you didn't catch it 31:07 got contaminated cuz you didn't catch it 31:07 got contaminated cuz you didn't catch it fast enough and wow, man, I wish I just 31:10 fast enough and wow, man, I wish I just 31:10 fast enough and wow, man, I wish I just poured some vinegar down there. That 31:12 poured some vinegar down there. That 31:12 poured some vinegar down there. That took a minute, you know, and 31:14 took a minute, you know, and 31:14 took a minute, you know, and that's so HVAC is huge. 31:16 that's so HVAC is huge. 31:16 that's so HVAC is huge. There's a lot of stuff you could do with 31:18 There's a lot of stuff you could do with 31:18 There's a lot of stuff you could do with your exterior to make sure that things 31:20 your exterior to make sure that things 31:20 your exterior to make sure that things are good. Like are my gutters shedding 31:21 are good. Like are my gutters shedding 31:21 are good. Like are my gutters shedding water away? Are they getting, you know, 31:23 water away? Are they getting, you know, 31:23 water away? Are they getting, you know, clogged? That's very, very common basic 31:26 clogged? That's very, very common basic 31:26 clogged? That's very, very common basic thing. 31:27 thing. 31:27 thing. What about my my windows? Are they 31:29 What about my my windows? Are they 31:29 What about my my windows? Are they starting to separate and crack? What 31:31 starting to separate and crack? What 31:31 starting to separate and crack? What about my stucco? Is it starting to 31:32 about my stucco? Is it starting to 31:32 about my stucco? Is it starting to separate and crack? A lot of basic stuff 31:34 separate and crack? A lot of basic stuff 31:34 separate and crack? A lot of basic stuff and you'll learn you'll learn about how 31:36 and you'll learn you'll learn about how 31:36 and you'll learn you'll learn about how to identify these things in the class 31:37 to identify these things in the class 31:37 to identify these things in the class and then that will just intuitively tell 31:39 and then that will just intuitively tell 31:39 and then that will just intuitively tell you what you need to just be checking 31:40 you what you need to just be checking 31:40 you what you need to just be checking on. 31:42 on. 31:42 on. >> Yeah, and a good reminder to use those 31:44 >> Yeah, and a good reminder to use those 31:44 >> Yeah, and a good reminder to use those dehumidifiers as well. 31:47 dehumidifiers as well. 31:47 dehumidifiers as well. Yeah, people always say like what air 31:48 Yeah, people always say like what air 31:48 Yeah, people always say like what air purifier do you recommend? And I have 31:50 purifier do you recommend? And I have 31:50 purifier do you recommend? And I have the ones that I like, but the first 31:51 the ones that I like, but the first 31:52 the ones that I like, but the first thing I say is okay, first thing you 31:53 thing I say is okay, first thing you 31:53 thing I say is okay, first thing you want even before an air purifier, I 31:56 want even before an air purifier, I 31:56 want even before an air purifier, I think top is dehumidifier. Personally, 31:59 think top is dehumidifier. Personally, 31:59 think top is dehumidifier. Personally, because it's a it's a moisture issue. 32:01 because it's a it's a moisture issue. 32:01 because it's a it's a moisture issue. >> Well, yeah, there's there's two things 32:03 >> Well, yeah, there's there's two things 32:03 >> Well, yeah, there's there's two things with the dehumidifier. One, 32:05 with the dehumidifier. One, 32:05 with the dehumidifier. One, controlling your humidity is one of the 32:07 controlling your humidity is one of the 32:07 controlling your humidity is one of the single best factors you could do for air 32:08 single best factors you could do for air 32:08 single best factors you could do for air quality. 32:09 quality. 32:09 quality. It's ventilation and humidity are the 32:11 It's ventilation and humidity are the 32:11 It's ventilation and humidity are the two biggest factors because when 32:13 two biggest factors because when 32:13 two biggest factors because when humidity goes up, it's not just mold. 32:15 humidity goes up, it's not just mold. 32:15 humidity goes up, it's not just mold. It's bacteria, virus some viruses can 32:17 It's bacteria, virus some viruses can 32:17 It's bacteria, virus some viruses can stand the air longer. You have 32:20 stand the air longer. You have 32:20 stand the air longer. You have particulates, right? They ride along on, 32:23 particulates, right? They ride along on, 32:23 particulates, right? They ride along on, you know, little water vapors. So do 32:26 you know, little water vapors. So do 32:26 you know, little water vapors. So do chemicals and all these things it also 32:28 chemicals and all these things it also 32:28 chemicals and all these things it also attracts more animal bugs. Right? So now 32:31 attracts more animal bugs. Right? So now 32:31 attracts more animal bugs. Right? So now you're dealing with more roaches, which 32:32 you're dealing with more roaches, which 32:32 you're dealing with more roaches, which by the way, there's lots of interesting 32:34 by the way, there's lots of interesting 32:34 by the way, there's lots of interesting studies between roaches and endotoxins 32:36 studies between roaches and endotoxins 32:36 studies between roaches and endotoxins in a home, which are toxins that come 32:38 in a home, which are toxins that come 32:38 in a home, which are toxins that come from bacteria. Um, so lots and lots of 32:41 from bacteria. Um, so lots and lots of 32:41 from bacteria. Um, so lots and lots of connections to humidity. Get that 32:42 connections to humidity. Get that 32:42 connections to humidity. Get that humidity down. Um, you know, if if your 32:45 humidity down. Um, you know, if if your 32:45 humidity down. Um, you know, if if your air conditioner is doing a wonderful job 32:46 air conditioner is doing a wonderful job 32:46 air conditioner is doing a wonderful job of that, then great. Don't run them 32:48 of that, then great. Don't run them 32:48 of that, then great. Don't run them every day to hear that really annoying 32:50 every day to hear that really annoying 32:50 every day to hear that really annoying humming. But, you should still have them 32:52 humming. But, you should still have them 32:52 humming. But, you should still have them in the house you should still have one 32:53 in the house you should still have one 32:53 in the house you should still have one sitting in your back in your yard or in 32:55 sitting in your back in your yard or in 32:55 sitting in your back in your yard or in your uh storage shed or whatever, just 32:57 your uh storage shed or whatever, just 32:57 your uh storage shed or whatever, just in case something were to ever happen, 32:59 in case something were to ever happen, 32:59 in case something were to ever happen, your air conditioner goes out, you need 33:01 your air conditioner goes out, you need 33:01 your air conditioner goes out, you need something to handle the humidity, or if 33:03 something to handle the humidity, or if 33:03 something to handle the humidity, or if you ever had a flood, you should throw 33:04 you ever had a flood, you should throw 33:05 you ever had a flood, you should throw that in that room to help dry it 33:06 that in that room to help dry it 33:06 that in that room to help dry it quickly. Everybody should have a 33:07 quickly. Everybody should have a 33:07 quickly. Everybody should have a dehumidifier, whether you're using it 33:09 dehumidifier, whether you're using it 33:09 dehumidifier, whether you're using it every day or not.
Mycotoxins, Toxic Load, and Health Impacts 33:11 every day or not. 33:11 every day or not. >> Yeah, I mean, I have little ones in each 33:13 >> Yeah, I mean, I have little ones in each 33:13 >> Yeah, I mean, I have little ones in each bathroom because I mean, my kids are not 33:16 bathroom because I mean, my kids are not 33:16 bathroom because I mean, my kids are not going to turn on the fan or things like 33:19 going to turn on the fan or things like 33:19 going to turn on the fan or things like that. So, definitely want to keep those 33:23 that. So, definitely want to keep those 33:23 that. So, definitely want to keep those generally humid areas from getting too 33:25 generally humid areas from getting too 33:26 generally humid areas from getting too humid. 33:27 humid. 33:27 humid. >> Totally. Yeah. 33:28 >> Totally. Yeah. 33:28 >> Totally. Yeah. >> Yeah, I think you mentioned something 33:31 >> Yeah, I think you mentioned something 33:31 >> Yeah, I think you mentioned something really interesting about how mycotoxins, 33:34 really interesting about how mycotoxins, 33:34 really interesting about how mycotoxins, even though they're microscopic, they 33:36 even though they're microscopic, they 33:36 even though they're microscopic, they don't actually just 33:38 don't actually just 33:38 don't actually just diffuse through tile or things like 33:41 diffuse through tile or things like 33:41 diffuse through tile or things like that. Can you speak a little more to 33:43 that. Can you speak a little more to 33:43 that. Can you speak a little more to that cuz that I feel like that is a very 33:45 that cuz that I feel like that is a very 33:45 that cuz that I feel like that is a very common misconception. 33:47 common misconception. 33:47 common misconception. >> Yes, it it is. Um, and before I get into 33:50 >> Yes, it it is. Um, and before I get into 33:50 >> Yes, it it is. Um, and before I get into this, I 33:52 this, I 33:52 this, I sometimes uh when when we start adding 33:55 sometimes uh when when we start adding 33:55 sometimes uh when when we start adding information into people's knowledge base 33:58 information into people's knowledge base 33:58 information into people's knowledge base that they didn't formally know of, 34:01 that they didn't formally know of, 34:01 that they didn't formally know of, it it may come off as like, you know, 34:03 it it may come off as like, you know, 34:03 it it may come off as like, you know, you don't have to worry about it. We 34:05 you don't have to worry about it. We 34:05 you don't have to worry about it. We definitely still need to worry about 34:06 definitely still need to worry about 34:06 definitely still need to worry about mycotoxins. Okay? Mycotoxins are the 34:09 mycotoxins. Okay? Mycotoxins are the 34:09 mycotoxins. Okay? Mycotoxins are the single biggest factor that I see and my 34:12 single biggest factor that I see and my 34:12 single biggest factor that I see and my clients having um issues or autoimmune 34:15 clients having um issues or autoimmune 34:15 clients having um issues or autoimmune flares or not being able to heal. So, 34:18 flares or not being able to heal. So, 34:18 flares or not being able to heal. So, mycotoxins are huge. They're very 34:19 mycotoxins are huge. They're very 34:19 mycotoxins are huge. They're very important. Trust me. All right? From my 34:22 important. Trust me. All right? From my 34:22 important. Trust me. All right? From my personal health experience and what I do 34:24 personal health experience and what I do 34:24 personal health experience and what I do for work, I should not be in this field 34:26 for work, I should not be in this field 34:26 for work, I should not be in this field with my autoimmune issues. Here I am. 34:28 with my autoimmune issues. Here I am. 34:28 with my autoimmune issues. Here I am. And what I can tell you is if I make 34:29 And what I can tell you is if I make 34:29 And what I can tell you is if I make mistakes, there was actually um 34:32 mistakes, there was actually um 34:32 mistakes, there was actually um a 34:32 a 34:32 a quite small divergent. 34:35 quite small divergent. 34:35 quite small divergent. Some of the two two or three of the 34:36 Some of the two two or three of the 34:36 Some of the two two or three of the videos that you saw in the course where 34:39 videos that you saw in the course where 34:39 videos that you saw in the course where there was a lot of mold happening in 34:40 there was a lot of mold happening in 34:40 there was a lot of mold happening in their house like behind the wallpaper in 34:41 their house like behind the wallpaper in 34:41 their house like behind the wallpaper in the water heater closet and stuff like 34:43 the water heater closet and stuff like 34:43 the water heater closet and stuff like that. 34:44 that. 34:44 that. Some of those things I just couldn't 34:46 Some of those things I just couldn't 34:46 Some of those things I just couldn't record with the mask on because you 34:47 record with the mask on because you 34:47 record with the mask on because you couldn't hear me. And we recorded in 34:49 couldn't hear me. And we recorded in 34:49 couldn't hear me. And we recorded in that house for about a day and a half. 34:51 that house for about a day and a half. 34:51 that house for about a day and a half. And I was out for the count. It took a 34:53 And I was out for the count. It took a 34:53 And I was out for the count. It took a lot to get back from that. Um 34:55 lot to get back from that. Um 34:55 lot to get back from that. Um And so it's it's for real, man. It's for 34:58 And so it's it's for real, man. It's for 34:58 And so it's it's for real, man. It's for real. Now with that being said, um 35:00 real. Now with that being said, um 35:00 real. Now with that being said, um how do they tra- how do the microtoxins 35:02 how do they tra- how do the microtoxins 35:02 how do they tra- how do the microtoxins travel? How do you get exposed to them? 35:04 travel? How do you get exposed to them? 35:04 travel? How do you get exposed to them? A lot of people think that it's a gas. 35:06 A lot of people think that it's a gas. 35:06 A lot of people think that it's a gas. All right, they think that it's just 35:07 All right, they think that it's just 35:07 All right, they think that it's just kind of flying around independently and 35:09 kind of flying around independently and 35:09 kind of flying around independently and on its own. So if you have mold in a 35:11 on its own. So if you have mold in a 35:11 on its own. So if you have mold in a wall, it's just going to diffuse through 35:12 wall, it's just going to diffuse through 35:12 wall, it's just going to diffuse through the wall and just show up and just 35:13 the wall and just show up and just 35:13 the wall and just show up and just absorb into your all your porous 35:15 absorb into your all your porous 35:15 absorb into your all your porous materials. That is not how it works. 35:17 materials. That is not how it works. 35:17 materials. That is not how it works. It's not a gas. All right, a microtoxins 35:20 It's not a gas. All right, a microtoxins 35:20 It's not a gas. All right, a microtoxins are not volatile. What they are is 35:24 are not volatile. What they are is 35:24 are not volatile. What they are is it's a it's a secondary metabolite 35:26 it's a it's a secondary metabolite 35:26 it's a it's a secondary metabolite that's produced by mold 35:27 that's produced by mold 35:27 that's produced by mold usually during digestion phase or during 35:29 usually during digestion phase or during 35:29 usually during digestion phase or during its defensive phases trying to protect 35:31 its defensive phases trying to protect 35:31 its defensive phases trying to protect itself. But it's a toxin that's 35:34 itself. But it's a toxin that's 35:34 itself. But it's a toxin that's bound to as as a just a chemical 35:37 bound to as as a just a chemical 35:37 bound to as as a just a chemical compound bound to the spore. 35:40 compound bound to the spore. 35:41 compound bound to the spore. Bound to the fungal fragments that are 35:42 Bound to the fungal fragments that are 35:43 Bound to the fungal fragments that are flying around. Bound to the actual 35:45 flying around. Bound to the actual 35:45 flying around. Bound to the actual growth structure, you know, the 35:46 growth structure, you know, the 35:46 growth structure, you know, the sporangium, conidium, whatever. They're 35:48 sporangium, conidium, whatever. They're 35:48 sporangium, conidium, whatever. They're bound to the actual structure. So 35:51 bound to the actual structure. So 35:51 bound to the actual structure. So they're not going to fly around on their 35:52 they're not going to fly around on their 35:52 they're not going to fly around on their own. However, 35:54 own. However, 35:54 own. However, what is mold, you know, how did how did 35:56 what is mold, you know, how did how did 35:56 what is mold, you know, how did how did God make these things? He made them to 35:58 God make these things? He made them to 35:58 God make these things? He made them to reproduce by spreading spores 35:59 reproduce by spreading spores 35:59 reproduce by spreading spores everywhere, right? And so the spores are 36:03 everywhere, right? And so the spores are 36:03 everywhere, right? And so the spores are really the main driver of your 36:05 really the main driver of your 36:05 really the main driver of your microtoxin exposure. Because they're 36:07 microtoxin exposure. Because they're 36:07 microtoxin exposure. Because they're flying around everywhere, you're 36:09 flying around everywhere, you're 36:09 flying around everywhere, you're breathing them in. If they're on your 36:10 breathing them in. If they're on your 36:10 breathing them in. If they're on your contents, you're sitting on them, you're 36:12 contents, you're sitting on them, you're 36:12 contents, you're sitting on them, you're stepping on them, you're walking on 36:13 stepping on them, you're walking on 36:13 stepping on them, you're walking on them, you're you're getting some into 36:15 them, you're you're getting some into 36:15 them, you're you're getting some into your saliva going into your stomach. 36:17 your saliva going into your stomach. 36:17 your saliva going into your stomach. They're That is the main source of 36:18 They're That is the main source of 36:18 They're That is the main source of exposure. Now if someone starts to mess 36:21 exposure. Now if someone starts to mess 36:21 exposure. Now if someone starts to mess with things like destroying drywall, 36:23 with things like destroying drywall, 36:23 with things like destroying drywall, spraying chemicals on it, you have bits 36:25 spraying chemicals on it, you have bits 36:26 spraying chemicals on it, you have bits and pieces of the roots and the fungal 36:27 and pieces of the roots and the fungal 36:27 and pieces of the roots and the fungal fragments and stuff flying around that 36:29 fragments and stuff flying around that 36:29 fragments and stuff flying around that also have the mycotoxins on them. So, 36:31 also have the mycotoxins on them. So, 36:31 also have the mycotoxins on them. So, even tiny particulates can collect in 36:33 even tiny particulates can collect in 36:33 even tiny particulates can collect in the dust that are problematic for us. Um 36:36 the dust that are problematic for us. Um 36:36 the dust that are problematic for us. Um but, we have to differentiate whether 36:38 but, we have to differentiate whether 36:38 but, we have to differentiate whether it's a gas or if it's a particle. And 36:41 it's a gas or if it's a particle. And 36:41 it's a gas or if it's a particle. And most of the time it's a particle riding 36:42 most of the time it's a particle riding 36:42 most of the time it's a particle riding on another particle. That's That's kind 36:44 on another particle. That's That's kind 36:44 on another particle. That's That's kind of the best way to to look at it. 36:46 of the best way to to look at it. 36:47 of the best way to to look at it. And if you know that and if your 36:48 And if you know that and if your 36:48 And if you know that and if your inspector knows that, you can better 36:49 inspector knows that, you can better 36:49 inspector knows that, you can better assess 36:50 assess 36:50 assess what to do about it, what could have 36:52 what to do about it, what could have 36:52 what to do about it, what could have been affected, and most importantly, 36:54 been affected, and most importantly, 36:54 been affected, and most importantly, what do I do with my contents and my 36:55 what do I do with my contents and my 36:55 what do I do with my contents and my stuff? 36:57 stuff? 36:57 stuff? >> Right. Yeah, so interesting. And that 36:59 >> Right. Yeah, so interesting. And that 36:59 >> Right. Yeah, so interesting. And that translates well to the body, too, 37:01 translates well to the body, too, 37:01 translates well to the body, too, because we think about how we breathe in 37:04 because we think about how we breathe in 37:04 because we think about how we breathe in the spores and the mycotoxins. And yes, 37:07 the spores and the mycotoxins. And yes, 37:08 the spores and the mycotoxins. And yes, you're getting them in through the GI 37:09 you're getting them in through the GI 37:09 you're getting them in through the GI tract, whether through food or through 37:11 tract, whether through food or through 37:11 tract, whether through food or through your environment, but also, you know, 37:13 your environment, but also, you know, 37:13 your environment, but also, you know, the spores 37:14 the spores 37:15 the spores can go so far in your sinuses, but then 37:18 can go so far in your sinuses, but then 37:18 can go so far in your sinuses, but then those mycotoxins and the smaller 37:20 those mycotoxins and the smaller 37:20 those mycotoxins and the smaller fragments can go through via the 37:22 fragments can go through via the 37:22 fragments can go through via the olfactory bulb and catch a ride straight 37:24 olfactory bulb and catch a ride straight 37:24 olfactory bulb and catch a ride straight to the brain. So, the problem people ask 37:27 to the brain. So, the problem people ask 37:27 to the brain. So, the problem people ask about me a lot of times about how do I 37:30 about me a lot of times about how do I 37:30 about me a lot of times about how do I find out if there's mold in my body? But 37:33 find out if there's mold in my body? But 37:33 find out if there's mold in my body? But the real question is 37:35 the real question is 37:35 the real question is what it How has mold affected your body? 37:39 what it How has mold affected your body? 37:39 what it How has mold affected your body? Like, how inflamed are you due to mold 37:42 Like, how inflamed are you due to mold 37:42 Like, how inflamed are you due to mold and toxins and full 37:45 and toxins and full 37:45 and toxins and full toxin load and all the different 37:48 toxin load and all the different 37:48 toxin load and all the different byproducts of the ecosystem of microbes 37:51 byproducts of the ecosystem of microbes 37:51 byproducts of the ecosystem of microbes that you've been exposed to. So, 37:54 that you've been exposed to. So, 37:54 that you've been exposed to. So, you know, these mycotoxins, yes, they're 37:56 you know, these mycotoxins, yes, they're 37:56 you know, these mycotoxins, yes, they're they're with the spores and we're 37:58 they're with the spores and we're 37:58 they're with the spores and we're breathing them in, but they're causing 37:59 breathing them in, but they're causing 38:00 breathing them in, but they're causing that inflammation in the body. And, you 38:03 that inflammation in the body. And, you 38:03 that inflammation in the body. And, you know, they can circulate throughout. So, 38:05 know, they can circulate throughout. So, 38:05 know, they can circulate throughout. So, so that's really interesting and and 38:07 so that's really interesting and and 38:07 so that's really interesting and and definitely ties in well to uh the 38:09 definitely ties in well to uh the 38:09 definitely ties in well to uh the clinical side. 38:11 clinical side. 38:11 clinical side. So, then, 38:12 So, then, 38:12 So, then, other question, too, is are there 38:16 other question, too, is are there 38:16 other question, too, is are there certain types of mold, as a mycologist, 38:18 certain types of mold, as a mycologist, 38:18 certain types of mold, as a mycologist, are there certain types of mold that you 38:19 are there certain types of mold that you 38:19 are there certain types of mold that you think of or like the top three, you 38:21 think of or like the top three, you 38:21 think of or like the top three, you know, worst molds or if you have certain 38:24 know, worst molds or if you have certain 38:24 know, worst molds or if you have certain molds then you should definitely not, 38:26 molds then you should definitely not, 38:26 molds then you should definitely not, you know, get this rental or is it more 38:28 you know, get this rental or is it more 38:28 you know, get this rental or is it more about the amount of molds or how do you
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them 38:31 about the amount of molds or how do you 38:31 about the amount of molds or how do you think about that risk? 38:32 think about that risk? 38:33 think about that risk? >> So, uh the main thing is 38:36 >> So, uh the main thing is 38:36 >> So, uh the main thing is it's not about the different types of 38:37 it's not about the different types of 38:37 it's not about the different types of mold because 38:38 mold because 38:38 mold because you shouldn't have any sources of mold 38:41 you shouldn't have any sources of mold 38:41 you shouldn't have any sources of mold growth in your house. 38:43 growth in your house. 38:43 growth in your house. No matter what it is. There's no such 38:44 No matter what it is. There's no such 38:44 No matter what it is. There's no such thing as a good source of mold growth in 38:46 thing as a good source of mold growth in 38:46 thing as a good source of mold growth in your house. 38:47 your house. 38:47 your house. Uh there's no such thing as a a 38:48 Uh there's no such thing as a a 38:48 Uh there's no such thing as a a non-problematic source of mold growth in 38:50 non-problematic source of mold growth in 38:50 non-problematic source of mold growth in your house. If you have mold growth in 38:52 your house. If you have mold growth in 38:52 your house. If you have mold growth in your house, that is a symptom of a 38:54 your house, that is a symptom of a 38:54 your house, that is a symptom of a moisture problem. 38:55 moisture problem. 38:55 moisture problem. And the moisture problem means that 38:57 And the moisture problem means that 38:57 And the moisture problem means that there are also other molds that could be 38:58 there are also other molds that could be 38:58 there are also other molds that could be growing, too. And this is where things 39:00 growing, too. And this is where things 39:00 growing, too. And this is where things get a little bit in the gray area. Yes, 39:03 get a little bit in the gray area. Yes, 39:03 get a little bit in the gray area. Yes, there are more mold that may be more 39:05 there are more mold that may be more 39:05 there are more mold that may be more clinically significant if we wanted to 39:07 clinically significant if we wanted to 39:07 clinically significant if we wanted to get technical like Stachybotrys can 39:09 get technical like Stachybotrys can 39:09 get technical like Stachybotrys can produce uh a lot of trichothecenes. Um 39:11 produce uh a lot of trichothecenes. Um 39:11 produce uh a lot of trichothecenes. Um Penicillium and Aspergillus, they can 39:13 Penicillium and Aspergillus, they can 39:13 Penicillium and Aspergillus, they can produce ochratoxin A. And so, these 39:16 produce ochratoxin A. And so, these 39:16 produce ochratoxin A. And so, these things are important, you know, Fusarium 39:17 things are important, you know, Fusarium 39:17 things are important, you know, Fusarium can produce fumonisin and 39:19 can produce fumonisin and 39:19 can produce fumonisin and deoxynivalenol, 39:21 deoxynivalenol, 39:21 deoxynivalenol, but 39:22 but 39:22 but the thing is we can't focus on the mold 39:24 the thing is we can't focus on the mold 39:24 the thing is we can't focus on the mold because testing is limited, right? So, 39:27 because testing is limited, right? So, 39:27 because testing is limited, right? So, if you have a uh a wall full of mold and 39:29 if you have a uh a wall full of mold and 39:29 if you have a uh a wall full of mold and I swab in one little area and it says 39:30 I swab in one little area and it says 39:30 I swab in one little area and it says it's one type, that doesn't mean that's 39:32 it's one type, that doesn't mean that's 39:32 it's one type, that doesn't mean that's the only type there. Therefore, it 39:33 the only type there. Therefore, it 39:33 the only type there. Therefore, it doesn't matter to me that that said 39:35 doesn't matter to me that that said 39:35 doesn't matter to me that that said Cladosporium, "Oh, it's less 39:37 Cladosporium, "Oh, it's less 39:37 Cladosporium, "Oh, it's less concerning." Well, how do I know there 39:38 concerning." Well, how do I know there 39:38 concerning." Well, how do I know there wasn't other things? 39:40 wasn't other things? 39:40 wasn't other things? Is there water damage in the house? Has 39:42 Is there water damage in the house? Has 39:42 Is there water damage in the house? Has it caused a problem? Has it caused 39:43 it caused a problem? Has it caused 39:43 it caused a problem? Has it caused potential contamination? It's an issue 39:46 potential contamination? It's an issue 39:46 potential contamination? It's an issue whether or not. Now, the amount 39:47 whether or not. Now, the amount 39:47 whether or not. Now, the amount obviously is important, right? There is 39:49 obviously is important, right? There is 39:49 obviously is important, right? There is such thing as a normal amount of mold in 39:51 such thing as a normal amount of mold in 39:51 such thing as a normal amount of mold in an environment. So, I would say amount 39:53 an environment. So, I would say amount 39:53 an environment. So, I would say amount is bigger, but I would also say the 39:56 is bigger, but I would also say the 39:56 is bigger, but I would also say the scale of water damage event is also big, 39:59 scale of water damage event is also big, 39:59 scale of water damage event is also big, too. Like, was it just a little bit of 40:00 too. Like, was it just a little bit of 40:00 too. Like, was it just a little bit of sweating at the bottom of your window? 40:02 sweating at the bottom of your window? 40:02 sweating at the bottom of your window? Just a tiny bit and you're starting to 40:03 Just a tiny bit and you're starting to 40:03 Just a tiny bit and you're starting to see a little bit? Is it a little bit on 40:05 see a little bit? Is it a little bit on 40:05 see a little bit? Is it a little bit on your caulking? Or has the window been 40:07 your caulking? Or has the window been 40:07 your caulking? Or has the window been leaking for 10 years? Has the shower 40:08 leaking for 10 years? Has the shower 40:08 leaking for 10 years? Has the shower been leaking for 10 years? So, that's 40:10 been leaking for 10 years? So, that's 40:10 been leaking for 10 years? So, that's kind of where we look at as far as 40:12 kind of where we look at as far as 40:12 kind of where we look at as far as triaging if this horrible or not. 40:15 triaging if this horrible or not. 40:15 triaging if this horrible or not. >> Yeah, and then comparing to the outside 40:17 >> Yeah, and then comparing to the outside 40:17 >> Yeah, and then comparing to the outside levels, too, right? Which I know outside 40:19 levels, too, right? Which I know outside 40:19 levels, too, right? Which I know outside it can be high as well, but that can be 40:22 it can be high as well, but that can be 40:22 it can be high as well, but that can be >> Yeah, we just did one um 40:23 >> Yeah, we just did one um 40:24 >> Yeah, we just did one um I just read it yesterday. It was 50,000 40:25 I just read it yesterday. It was 50,000 40:25 I just read it yesterday. It was 50,000 spores per cubic meter. So, you know, if 40:28 spores per cubic meter. So, you know, if 40:28 spores per cubic meter. So, you know, if you imagine just a cubic meter in front 40:29 you imagine just a cubic meter in front 40:29 you imagine just a cubic meter in front of your face, every step that you take, 40:31 of your face, every step that you take, 40:31 of your face, every step that you take, you're walking in a 50,000 spores. That 40:33 you're walking in a 50,000 spores. That 40:33 you're walking in a 50,000 spores. That was a normal baseline for outside. So, 40:36 was a normal baseline for outside. So, 40:36 was a normal baseline for outside. So, yeah. 40:41 >> Yeah, yeah, all those variables, but I 40:41 >> Yeah, yeah, all those variables, but I think that's actually really important 40:44 think that's actually really important 40:44 think that's actually really important to conceptualize and can help with not 40:46 to conceptualize and can help with not 40:46 to conceptualize and can help with not being overwhelmed by this. It's not a 40:48 being overwhelmed by this. It's not a 40:48 being overwhelmed by this. It's not a matter of nitpicking what one or 20 40:52 matter of nitpicking what one or 20 40:52 matter of nitpicking what one or 20 types of mold and bacteria you have in 40:55 types of mold and bacteria you have in 40:55 types of mold and bacteria you have in your home. It's a matter of where are 40:58 your home. It's a matter of where are 40:58 your home. It's a matter of where are the moisture sources, where are these 41:00 the moisture sources, where are these 41:00 the moisture sources, where are these issues with either the materials or what 41:04 issues with either the materials or what 41:04 issues with either the materials or what are these different things that we need 41:06 are these different things that we need 41:06 are these different things that we need to 41:07 to 41:07 to pre- use to prevent mold and moisture 41:10 pre- use to prevent mold and moisture 41:10 pre- use to prevent mold and moisture issues or treat anything that has 41:12 issues or treat anything that has 41:12 issues or treat anything that has already happened. So, I think that's 41:14 already happened. So, I think that's 41:14 already happened. So, I think that's really helpful. 41:15 really helpful. 41:15 really helpful. >> Yeah, and you also have to consider 41:16 >> Yeah, and you also have to consider 41:16 >> Yeah, and you also have to consider total toxic load. Um trying not to focus 41:19 total toxic load. Um trying not to focus 41:19 total toxic load. Um trying not to focus mainly on mold. Of course, that is a 41:21 mainly on mold. Of course, that is a 41:21 mainly on mold. Of course, that is a huge driver, but if you can get your 41:23 huge driver, but if you can get your 41:23 huge driver, but if you can get your total toxic load down, your air quality 41:24 total toxic load down, your air quality 41:24 total toxic load down, your air quality is going to be better. So, like what do 41:27 is going to be better. So, like what do 41:27 is going to be better. So, like what do I have in my house that's microplastics? 41:28 I have in my house that's microplastics? 41:28 I have in my house that's microplastics? What do I have in my house that's 41:29 What do I have in my house that's 41:29 What do I have in my house that's producing too much electricity? What do 41:31 producing too much electricity? What do 41:31 producing too much electricity? What do I What do I have in my house that's 41:32 I What do I have in my house that's 41:32 I What do I have in my house that's producing too many chemicals? What am I 41:34 producing too many chemicals? What am I 41:34 producing too many chemicals? What am I doing in the house that could be 41:35 doing in the house that could be 41:35 doing in the house that could be contributing to the humidity or to 41:36 contributing to the humidity or to 41:37 contributing to the humidity or to bacteria? Um you know, how clean is it? 41:39 bacteria? Um you know, how clean is it? 41:39 bacteria? Um you know, how clean is it? How much am I keeping keeping the dust 41:41 How much am I keeping keeping the dust 41:41 How much am I keeping keeping the dust up, right? Which is going to be a 41:42 up, right? Which is going to be a 41:42 up, right? Which is going to be a harboring station for all of this stuff. 41:45 harboring station for all of this stuff. 41:45 harboring station for all of this stuff. Right? And so, whatever that case may 41:47 Right? And so, whatever that case may 41:47 Right? And so, whatever that case may be, you just have to consider your en- 41:49 be, you just have to consider your en- 41:49 be, you just have to consider your en- en- environmental load and get that down 41:52 en- environmental load and get that down 41:52 en- environmental load and get that down because, you know, a lot of people ask 41:53 because, you know, a lot of people ask 41:53 because, you know, a lot of people ask like, "Well, what do I do if I'm still 41:54 like, "Well, what do I do if I'm still 41:54 like, "Well, what do I do if I'm still living in mold?" Right? And there's a 41:56 living in mold?" Right? And there's a 41:56 living in mold?" Right? And there's a lot of things you could do, right? You 41:57 lot of things you could do, right? You 41:57 lot of things you could do, right? You could dilute the air with outdoor air, 41:59 could dilute the air with outdoor air, 41:59 could dilute the air with outdoor air, you can do run air purification, you can 42:01 you can do run air purification, you can 42:01 you can do run air purification, you can seal up Remember, source control is 42:03 seal up Remember, source control is 42:03 seal up Remember, source control is huge. Seal up the areas if you know 42:04 huge. Seal up the areas if you know 42:04 huge. Seal up the areas if you know there there's mold in that cabinet, tape 42:06 there there's mold in that cabinet, tape 42:06 there there's mold in that cabinet, tape it up, right? Like whatever it is, you 42:08 it up, right? Like whatever it is, you 42:08 it up, right? Like whatever it is, you could do things, but you know what else 42:10 could do things, but you know what else 42:10 could do things, but you know what else you could do to help your symptoms is 42:12 you could do to help your symptoms is 42:12 you could do to help your symptoms is get the other environmental stuff that 42:14 get the other environmental stuff that 42:14 get the other environmental stuff that you can't control out. 42:15 you can't control out. 42:15 you can't control out. Get rid of those freaking blade Glade 42:17 Get rid of those freaking blade Glade 42:17 Get rid of those freaking blade Glade plug-ins, sorry Glade, and toss them in 42:19 plug-ins, sorry Glade, and toss them in 42:19 plug-ins, sorry Glade, and toss them in the trash. Right? Like, what am I using 42:21 the trash. Right? Like, what am I using 42:22 the trash. Right? Like, what am I using cleaners for? How can I alternate like 42:23 cleaners for? How can I alternate like 42:23 cleaners for? How can I alternate like how can I go into more non-toxic stuff? 42:26 how can I go into more non-toxic stuff? 42:26 how can I go into more non-toxic stuff? What am I using to wash my clothes? Can 42:28 What am I using to wash my clothes? Can 42:28 What am I using to wash my clothes? Can I switch to 100% cotton for my bed 42:29 I switch to 100% cotton for my bed 42:29 I switch to 100% cotton for my bed sheets? Whatever it is, just reduce 42:32 sheets? Whatever it is, just reduce 42:32 sheets? Whatever it is, just reduce everything else and the toxic load in 42:34 everything else and the toxic load in 42:34 everything else and the toxic load in the house as a whole as a sum will go 42:36 the house as a whole as a sum will go 42:36 the house as a whole as a sum will go down as you're trying to handle the mold 42:38 down as you're trying to handle the mold 42:38 down as you're trying to handle the mold problem, too. 42:40 problem, too. 42:40 problem, too. >> That's so true. Yep, home and body 42:42 >> That's so true. Yep, home and body 42:42 >> That's so true. Yep, home and body absolutely as I like to talk about all 42:44 absolutely as I like to talk about all 42:44 absolutely as I like to talk about all the time, your toxin bucket. Every small 42:47 the time, your toxin bucket. Every small 42:47 the time, your toxin bucket. Every small choice counts. So, anything you can do, 42:50 choice counts. A lot of these people, especially like I 44:16 A lot of these people, especially like I 44:16 A lot of these people, especially like I don't know what the relationship is with 44:18 don't know what the relationship is with 44:18 don't know what the relationship is with immunocompromised like um autoimmune 44:21 immunocompromised like um autoimmune 44:21 immunocompromised like um autoimmune people and intelligence, but it seems to 44:23 people and intelligence, but it seems to 44:23 people and intelligence, but it seems to be very analytical intelligent people 44:25 be very analytical intelligent people 44:25 be very analytical intelligent people that are dealing with this. Or maybe 44:26 that are dealing with this. Or maybe 44:26 that are dealing with this. Where to Find Brantley and Closing Remarks 45:01 want to get your health back, but you're 45:01 want to get your health back, but you're probably also dealing with not that 45:03 probably also dealing with not that 45:03 probably also dealing with not that great energy. You're probably dealing 45:05 great energy. You're probably dealing 45:05 great energy. You're probably dealing with brain fog, right? And it's just too 45:07 with brain fog, right? And it's just too 45:07 with brain fog, right? And it's just too much it's just too much to handle this. 45:09 much it's just too much to handle this. 45:09 much it's just too much to handle this. It's just overwhelming and it's just 45:10 It's just overwhelming and it's just 45:10 It's just overwhelming and it's just like, well, I don't even know what to 45:12 like, well, I don't even know what to 45:12 like, well, I don't even know what to do. I'm just going to just I just have 45:13 do. I'm just going to just I just have 45:13 do. I'm just going to just I just have to do whatever I can. And then what 45:15 to do whatever I can. And then what 45:15 to do whatever I can. And then what happens is, let's flash forward 10 45:17 happens is, let's flash forward 10 45:17 happens is, let's flash forward 10 months and you've spent $80,000 on your 45:19 months and you've spent $80,000 on your 45:19 months and you've spent $80,000 on your house. You're still sick. You still 45:21 house. You're still sick. You still 45:21 house. You're still sick. You still don't know what's going on, and you feel 45:23 don't know what's going on, and you feel 45:23 don't know what's going on, and you feel like you're back at ground zero. I see 45:24 like you're back at ground zero. I see 45:25 like you're back at ground zero. I see that all the time. So, like health 45:28 that all the time. So, like health 45:28 that all the time. So, like health health issues alone will wear on you. 45:30 health issues alone will wear on you. 45:30 health issues alone will wear on you. They will keep you at 0% energy, 0% I 45:34 They will keep you at 0% energy, 0% I 45:34 They will keep you at 0% energy, 0% I don't even know how I'm going to handle 45:35 don't even know how I'm going to handle 45:35 don't even know how I'm going to handle this, especially cuz it affects your 45:37 this, especially cuz it affects your 45:37 this, especially cuz it affects your work, which affects your finances, and 45:39 work, which affects your finances, and 45:39 work, which affects your finances, and then it affects your relationship with 45:40 then it affects your relationship with 45:40 then it affects your relationship with your husband or wife, and then it 45:41 your husband or wife, and then it 45:42 your husband or wife, and then it affects your relationship with your kids 45:44 affects your relationship with your kids 45:44 affects your relationship with your kids and how present you can be and how 45:45 and how present you can be and how 45:45 and how present you can be and how they're how they're health is. And 45:48 they're how they're health is. And 45:48 they're how they're health is. And it's really really hard to to handle 45:50 it's really really hard to to handle 45:50 it's really really hard to to handle this, and it just affects your general 45:52 this, and it just affects your general 45:52 this, and it just affects your general quality of life. 45:53 quality of life. 45:53 quality of life. So, um 45:55 So, um 45:55 So, um it's just really important to consider 45:58 it's just really important to consider 45:58 it's just really important to consider that um 46:01 that um 46:01 that um you can do this very wrong 46:03 you can do this very wrong 46:04 you can do this very wrong if you don't have the right people and 46:05 if you don't have the right people and 46:05 if you don't have the right people and if you don't slow down and just try not 46:08 if you don't slow down and just try not 46:08 if you don't slow down and just try not to panic. One of my favorite movies of 46:10 to panic. One of my favorite movies of 46:10 to panic. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Hitchhiker's Guide to 46:11 all time is The Hitchhiker's Guide to 46:11 all time is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I don't know if you know 46:12 the Galaxy. I don't know if you know 46:12 the Galaxy. I don't know if you know that movie. And it's a big book and 46:16 that movie. And it's a big book and 46:16 that movie. And it's a big book and right on the front it says, "Don't 46:17 right on the front it says, "Don't 46:17 right on the front it says, "Don't panic." 46:19 panic." 46:19 panic." And and that's it, right? You just have 46:21 And and that's it, right? You just have 46:21 And and that's it, right? You just have to slow down and be like, "Okay, let me 46:23 to slow down and be like, "Okay, let me 46:23 to slow down and be like, "Okay, let me figure this out." I know that's easier 46:25 figure this out." I know that's easier 46:25 figure this out." I know that's easier said than done because there's a lot of 46:27 said than done because there's a lot of 46:27 said than done because there's a lot of misinformation out there. People have 46:28 misinformation out there. People have 46:28 misinformation out there. People have different opinions both in the 46:30 different opinions both in the 46:30 different opinions both in the environment and functional medicine. 46:31 environment and functional medicine. 46:31 environment and functional medicine. They're going to have different ways 46:32 They're going to have different ways 46:32 They're going to have different ways that they're going to treat you or treat 46:33 that they're going to treat you or treat 46:33 that they're going to treat you or treat your house. 46:34 your house. 46:34 your house. Um but at the end of the day, you're 46:36 Um but at the end of the day, you're 46:36 Um but at the end of the day, you're your own advocate. You have to make your 46:37 your own advocate. You have to make your 46:37 your own advocate. You have to make your own decisions. And so, take the time to 46:39 own decisions. And so, take the time to 46:40 own decisions. And so, take the time to get the right information, to get to get 46:41 get the right information, to get to get 46:41 get the right information, to get to get the right um solutions for your house 46:44 the right um solutions for your house 46:44 the right um solutions for your house before you move forward because I don't 46:45 before you move forward because I don't 46:45 before you move forward because I don't want you wasting money. I don't want you 46:47 want you wasting money. I don't want you 46:47 want you wasting money. I don't want you having to take out a second mortgage. I 46:48 having to take out a second mortgage. I 46:48 having to take out a second mortgage. I don't want you having to figure out what 46:50 don't want you having to figure out what 46:50 don't want you having to figure out what to do here um because you rushed and 46:52 to do here um because you rushed and 46:52 to do here um because you rushed and went too fast. The amount of times I 46:54 went too fast. The amount of times I 46:54 went too fast. The amount of times I hear people say, "Man, if I knew what I 46:56 hear people say, "Man, if I knew what I 46:56 hear people say, "Man, if I knew what I knew 10 months ago." 46:58 knew 10 months ago." 46:58 knew 10 months ago."
