What Did the Vegan Twin Experiment REALLY Find? – Professor Christopher Gardner
What really happens when identical twins follow different diets?
Stanford University Professor of Medicine and nutrition researcher Dr Christopher Gardner reveals the science behind the groundbreaking twin study that became the Netflix docuseries You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment.
Dr Gardner explains how 22 pairs of identical twins were randomly assigned to either a healthy vegan diet or a healthy omnivorous diet for eight weeks — allowing researchers to study the effects of diet while controlling for genetics.
The twins following a vegan diet experienced significant improvements in several key health markers, including:
Lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol
Reduced fasting insulin levels
Greater weight loss compared to their omnivorous twins
Dr Christopher Gardner is a Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, Director of the Stanford Plant-Based Diet Initiative, and one of the leading researchers studying the relationship between diet and health.
