Long Covid, also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), refers to a condition where individuals continue to experience lingering symptoms and complications after the acute phase of COVID-19 has passed. Some of the common symptoms of long Covid include persistent fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, joint pain, brain fog, and difficulty concentrating. The exact cause of long Covid is still being studied, but it is believed to result from a combination of factors, including persistent viral activity, immune system dysregulation, and potential damage to organs during the acute infection. Long Covid can affect individuals of all ages, including those who had mild or asymptomatic initial infections. Management of long Covid involves a multidisciplinary approach, including medical evaluation, symptom-specific treatments, rehabilitation, and support for mental health and well-being.
