Introduction to Sylvie Beljanski 0:00
Well, if it's on cancer, there would not be an increase of cancer. It would be pretty stable. The fact that it is increasing is showing us that there is something probably in our environment which is triggering something at the level of our DNA and makes us, turns us the cells to become cancerous and developed a test that allowed him to discover a number of molecules in our environment that induce. This is Dr. Talks. Welcome everyone to the Prostate Cancer Summit 2.0. And it's my pleasure to introduce to you Sylvie Beljansky, who does so many things.
We were just discussing. So Sylwie Beljaanski is the CEO of Beljaski Products Nutraceuticals, which I think many of you would know about if you have been diagnosed or affected by prostate cancer by now. She's also the host for the Beljsci Cancer Talk Show. podcast. She runs the Integrative Cancer Conference and is the author of the magnificent book Winning the War on Cancer. Sylvie, such a pleasure to see you. Oh, thank you, Dr. G. Thank you for having me today. So we, you know, we go back, You and I, I was I wouldn't say that I had hair when we first met, but I would say my beard was black.
Absolutely. That's something like almost 20 years ago. Yeah. When we did some research at Columbia University, I was with Dr. Aaron Cass at the time. Yes. And we did some research on Prostabelle. One of the products that we're going to talk about, which was fascinating is actually, it was one of my first real gigs, right? It was my, first research project that I was so proud of.
Mirko Beljanskiu2019s Cancer Research 2:00
I remember recruiting patients for it and, you know, looking into, Paul and Raul Fia and doing some deep research with some of your scientists and discussing it with you guys. It, was, so much fun. And I do remember that part of that story. Probably most of that story came from the research that your father did back in France. If I remember his name, Mirko Baljanski, is that right? Mirco Baljaski indeed, yes. He was a PhD in molecular biology. Was working at the Pasteur Institute, which is more or less a French equivalent for NIH.
and he was one of the first scientists at the time to look at environment as a cause and as the solution to cancer. Back in the 70s, 80s everybody was thinking that genetics would be the solutions to everything. A lot of money was pouring into genetic understanding and discovering genetic drugs that will modify the genome. The genome was just something new and exciting at the time, just discovered by Watson and Crick. And my father said, well, if cancer is only genetic, there would not be an increase of cancer.
It would be pretty stable. The fact that it is increasing is showing us that there is something, probably in our environment, which is triggering something at the level of our DNA and turns us, the cells, to become cancerous. And he developed a test that allowed him to discover a number of molecules in our environment that induce cancer. It made the observation that there is a fundamental difference between the DNA of healthy cells and the The DNA of healthy cells are nicely, DNA is nicely interwoven, nicely kept together with the hydrogen bonds.
And when a cell turns cancerous, and whether you look at plants, animals, humans, the DNA, is a double elix is not well kept, together the hydrogens bonds are broken. So he had the idea to measure the amount of light going through the two strands of the DNA and he made the correlation that the more light is going though the strands the faster the dna duplicates. So he had a way to test for a number of molecules and see if they were increasing the rate of synthesis of DNA. And then he looked for molecules that would recognize selectively this destabilized DNA, prevent the duplication selectivity.
of those cells and have no effect on healthy cells. And it's beautiful when you look under the microscope you can see that really those plant extracts which happen to be naturally fluorescent, you see them really targeting cancer cells, and then It's really striking, especially under UV light, and they don't go anywhere inside healthy cells. They stay like a halo of fluorescence outside of healthy cell. It is absolutely beautiful. But that translated into blood extracts that recognize cancer cells wherever they are located and have no toxicity, no side effects therefore on healthy So he became pretty successful with that back in the 80s.
A big following of French doctors who were using those products with a lot of success on different kinds of cancer.
Mitterrand Case and Lab Raid 6:00
And then in his former French president Francois Mitterrand was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, So the official surgeon came to the French White House, said the cancer has spread everywhere. The president is probably not going to be able to finish his second term. Terms were seven years at the time in France. And we are going give him some morphine and try to keep him comfortable, but we have to prepare the country for early elections. But Mitterrand had a mistress and the mistress knew about a good doctor who had good results on prostate cancer by using my father's products.
So Miterrand started to take the products against the law and it started getting better. that did not sit well with the pharmaceutical companies. They were furious that it was, I mean, there was no social media and things like that at the time, but it, it wasn't president. So it really visible to all that he was looking very, very bad. And then they started to get better. attend conferences and things like that. And who has signed this? Who has decided that? I mean, pharmaceutical companies and the political class was absolutely infuriated.
So exactly nine months after Mitterrand finally passed away, after having finished his second term, they sent the army, government sent to destroy my father's laboratory. They came with, with machine guns, dogs, and helicopter circling above the laboratories. Arrested my, my Father, My mom, the doctors who were working with them. The pharmacist who was overseeing the production, everything. And they tried to, to destroyed everything, sorry to hear that. Did you're, are we talking about? products or ingredients that we are still working with today?
So is this is your pal and your ride? Absolutely. Absolutely the same products as that Mitterrand was taking. When I saw what was happening, I said over my dead body, am not going to let that knowledge disappear. And that's why I decided here in the States to start the Belzhansky Foundation. My goal was to continue to make the products available and to confirm my father's research to show that indeed those little plant extracts were recognizing cancer cells, no toxicities on healthy cells and were actually pretty effective.
And that's the work of the foundation for the past 25 years. Unbelievable. On a personal note, Your dad passed away in 1998? Correct. Correct, yes. Yes. You think, and I don't know the details of that and we don' have to get into it, but do you think that the stressor, the disappointment of what happened after all the work and research he did, do think it had an effect on his passing at all or was it just aging? No, no, first they did not follow the due process. When you arrest somebody in France, you're supposed to bring him immediately before the judge.
They told him, well, it's too late. We'll bring you tomorrow. Stay there. And there was a team with Hazard Matt who came and sent some gas in the laboratory and two months later he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at 74. I tried to send him products as quickly as I could manufacture him, but I mean there was no way I would save him. to maintain him alive for two years. And that gave him the time also to pass to me a lot of knowledge, a lots of information, and to test the plot extracts that I was sending from America.
Continuing the Work in the U.S. 10:00
At some point in September 1998, he told me, well, you know how to do it. Just don't change anything and you will be fine. The following months he passed. And at what point, so when did you start working with your dad in the products? I was a lawyer by trade. I working in a New York law firm. So you were already in New York, just working as a lawyer, nothing to do with the company of the product. Exactly. I'm the products of several generations of scientists. And I grew up like a little brat saying, I don't want to get involved in health with cells.
So I didn't to be surrounded with sick people. Talk about things changing. Wow. In one's life. Yes, exactly. But I knew how, how much they were helping people I grew up seeing people coming at home. They were crying because they had been diagnosed with cancer. And then they were coming back several months later with flowers, chocolate. Growing up, it fell on me. I was a little brat. It felt like this is never ending. But I knew how important this work was. And as an adult, I felt the responsibility to make sure that the barbarians would not win and that their knowledge would disappear.
So thank you for sharing that, by the way. That's very touching. Just on a personal level, it was very touchy. So now we have these products that I remember studying at Columbia. Yes, it's a razor-pin-free, that's really important, razor pin- free revolfea extract. It's rich in alstonine. Alstonin is very similar to flavoperin, which is also the active ingredients of paopera, so it is flavopering and alstonin. and both shown the ability to induce apoptosis of a number of cancer cell lines, including prostate.
And within prostate, we have tested the product in vitro and in vivo on benign hyperplasia of prostate We know that we have a modulation of NF-kB. We knows that, we had an inhibition of 5-alpha reductase. we know we that have upregulation of P53. But we knows we are apoptosis of cancer cells. So, several mechanisms of action which are cumulative, always going in a good way and that helping favorite stage actually of the cancer. So let's talk about some of research that you've conducted around it.
We can start from the most recent and go as far back as you want because one of interesting things and one the reasons why I think that I admire your work is that, you know, put your money where your mouth is, like they say in the US, right? You conducted the research. There are a lot of supplement companies who talk about what their supplements do, but there's no research behind it. You and your products are different. So tell us about some of the research on any stage of prostate cancer as it relates to paupera and ralufia.
Yes. So indeed, I mean, that's how we met because the Belzhansky Foundation was funding some research that was conducted at Columbia University. And Columbia university, Dr.
Prostabel Research at Columbia 14:00
Katz told me, well, we are going to, to we can look at those plant extracts, but only one. so you have to choose. and I was like, But I know that both Paopera and Ravolfia vomitoria are both working. It's heartbreaking if you are asking me to chose my between two. Two of my children, that's right. And I came up with the idea of combining them both and make one mix that we called Prostabel for the purpose of the study. But we tested in vitro and in vivo at Columbia University. that first it was on cancer cells, prostate cancer cell.
And we come up with some really good publications that were signed by the team of Columbia University. We had these little clinical trials that did not come to publication because some people had to have a biopsy at the beginning, a Biopsi at end. At the end, they did want to another biopsies. I felt far. That's right. It just felt fine. So actually, we are not able to publish, but we have the data showing that the PSA was improved with all those patients. And then we kept in touch as you left Columbia.
But we stayed in in-touch with another PhD student who was still working at Columbia, and we were able work on advanced cancer cells that do not respond to hormonal treatment anymore. I believe cancer cell lines, which are pretty aggressive, and we were able to see that Paopera and also Ravolfia vomitoria independently. were able to inhibit the growth of those very aggressive cancer cells. That's very important because hormonal treatment first is difficult for men. I mean, castration of testosterone is something difficult and at some point we know that testosterone fueling the cancer but is not the cause of the cancer.
At some point, the treatment can fail, and then there are not so many options that are given to those men. And what we saw is that the paupera fior vomitoria continue to be active, to efficient against those very aggressive cells that have escaped to pauopera and ravel fia vomitoria and to hormonal treatment. But what we have been able to see is the synergy of action with Docet Accel. studies on synergy of action with different chemotherapies. My father, at the time, was already studying, documenting that with cyclophosphamide, 5-FU.
And here in the States, we have done Docetaxel, and with the work at Kansas University Medical Center, We have the synergy with gencitabine and carboplatin. So what we see is that Those chemotherapies are very different kind of molecules. They're different mechanism of action, but every time we have a nice synergy with those plant extracts. And it seems that the toxicity linked to chemotherapies is actually participating to the destabilization of the DNA and makes, therefore, the cancer cells even more visible, recognizable for those little plant extracts that will invade the big loops that my father was describing.
So there is good synergy between PAL and RALUFIA and many of those chemotherapeutic drugs. It sounds like it's for everything, not just for prostate cancer or advanced prostate cancers. Sounds like for any advanced cancer. Yes, the research done at Kansas University was on ovarian pancreatic cancer and also extremely successful. And then we said, since those plant extracts are doing so much at different stages of cancer, why not looking at cancer stem cells? And cancer stem cells, nobody tend to speak about it because chemotherapies are unable to destroy them.
But it's very important to address them from day one of the diagnosis because they are thought to be responsible for metastasis. So we had the first research done at Kansas University Medical Center on ovarian and pancreatic cancer stems cells. And everything disappeared.
Advanced Cancer and Chemotherapy Synergy 19:00
Everything disappeared, so we did a big research and we just finished. It's not published yet. And by the way, all the research I mentioned so far, everything is available on the website of the Belgiansky Foundation, belgianski.org. You can look at all those research, download, share with your doctor, see if it would be a good fit for you. So beljansky.org, okay, we'll make sure to link it up as well. So we had this research that we just finished on breast cancer stem cells. We had two groups of mice.
All of them received those very nasty, aggressive, human breast, cancer, stem, cells, and you could see that the control group had a lot of big, very quickly, big tumors and then they died pretty quickly. Mice who received the nasty cells but also were fed. And I think it is important to say fed because it was gavage. of Paopera, Ravolfia vomitoria and some specific green tea, Oncoti, they had much less tumors. The tumors were much smaller and there was zero metastasis. Zero. Wow. So the idea now that we have done breast is what we are trying to find now is prostate cancer stem cells.
We believe we're going to see the same thing, but of course we had to do the research. Should we assume Prostabelle, which is the product that contains both Palo and Rolufia, it's available for people to purchase? Should be assume that there is stem cell benefits from taking Prosta Bell? Obviously you're doing the research first, But like we said before, there are a lot of people, a lotta companies promoting that their products do this and the other and they never study it. So I think it's okay for at least to have an assumption that based on the research you already have, if there's benefit or not.
I would say based on the positive results obtained on ovarian pancreatic and breast cancer stem cells, I assume that there is nothing to lose to take it for prostate. And even if, of course, even they are an Android deprivation therapy, in other words, it doesn't matter what stage, particularly in the more advanced stages, which that's when the situation becomes a little bit more critical for the patient. No negative interaction with dulcetaxel, if the patients is on dulceetoxel. If they're in hormone deprivation therapy, possibly be beneficial in those circumstances apparently.
Absolutely. And it was kind of hard emotionally to go from the prostate of the French president to in vitro studies and mice again at Columbia University. But, you know, that was the way to, and the only way, to make sure that this research would continue and that we would have scientific confirmation, validation. I want the listener to appreciate what goes into the research and what formulating our research because I don't think that most people understand. There is funding that occurs mostly from your foundation.
Looking at the right stem cells in a petri dish, looking at having the, if you're doing an in vivo study. In other words, it's a process and you have to be very patient to get the results, then patient, to publish those results. Two to three years, you know, tens of thousands of dollars, that's, they get up for that. So that, so that that is admirable. Hundreds of thousand, yeah, hundreds of And that's why, in order to fund the research, I started to organize events and conferences and trying to create
Cancer Stem Cell Studies 23:00
awareness about this research. I believe that beyond what we are doing at the foundation, having integrative medicine will be taken seriously if everybody is doing good research I think quality research, sharing the research is a key to credibility. And so beyond us, I thinks it is really important for integrative medicine. I mean, an integrate doctor, you are a naturopathic doctor. You have been to those, your degree in natiropathy medicine, and I Having a quality body of people and of research is a way to justify going outside of conventional medicine, which we have seen as its limits.
For sure. And you know, with the research, it becomes very slowly more accepted in mainstream medicine. It's a slow process. Like you said, look, no harm and potentially a significant benefit. from doing, you know, prostabelle with advanced prostate cancer or advanced cancer, according to the research that you've performed. Lastly, any issues with the oncologist taking prostabel? So typically they say, don't do any supplements, just do this. How does the patient, how can the patients approach their oncologists to say look, I'm also taking Prostabell.
I don' know. Here's the resource. You can read up on it. What's a process like? Yes, so that's making the research available because, I mean, a lot of doctors don't always, there are a lots of things published every month. And doctors, it's difficult for them to keep up with everything, especially, natural stuff, because they don t have cell stripes bringing that. those publications to them. So it is a patient, I mean, making the publications easy to obtain to the patient. And if you go to TheBalchanski.org website, you can see by organ, it's organized by organs.
You can print everything related to prostate. Then you start a discussion with your doctor and say, the mechanism of action are explained. There is apparently no toxicity. Why do you say no? And very often you will discover that the doctor has enrolled you in some kind of study and he doesn't want to mess up with the stats. But the question is, do you want be a stat or do want have a good result and taking good care of yourself and take ownership? I'm afraid of what that answer really is, Sylvie.
I think that sometimes, and look, I am not a mainstream medicine basher. But I work in mainstream medicines. In some instances and in some institutions and some oncologists, it is about the stats sometimes. And I hope that changes sooner than later. Yeah, there are some tests also out there. One of them is RGCC that allow people to send some blood and see if against a panel of drugs and natural products. what will be effective to your specific cancer cells. And I have to say that the plant extracts for operarovolfia vomitoria, they appear in the panel as COBL, which is the name used for the professional line.
Using Research in Patient Care 27:00
But again and again, it's showing up as effective against a different kind of cancer, and of course, prostate cancer. Yes, RRGCC is a CTC, so it's cancer tumor cells that they find on the blood. And sometimes it is company that is able to match the right natural ingredient to that type of cancer. Yeah. They just not do just natural, but they include natural. We have hemotherapeutic drugs and things. Yeah. And Oncobel, which is paupyra rovolfia vomitoria and golden ginkgo, Which is also another plant extract that my father discovered.
showed that it was beneficial to help fight skin fibrosis, which can be interesting after the radiation. And we did some further research with this golden ginkgo to show that is was inhibiting angiogenin. So also preventing the tumor to be fed with those creation of new blood vessels, and also to spread by inhibiting angiogenin, which is the enzyme that helps cancer cells to create new vessels. Angiogensis, yeah. So we have this combination of power of all ginkgo called oncobel, that's part of the professional line.
Now, uncle bill needs to be prescribed by a decision. Yes. That's that's yes. Asked about a sold direct to consumer. Absolutely. So, thank you so much. Final words and where can people find more about you and perhaps that spell. Can you spell that for us as well? Just to make it. Yes, Belzhansky, my last name is B-E-L-J-I-N-S-K-Y. So belzhamsky.org for the Belhanski Foundation. And Maison, means home in French, and it's M-A- I- S-O- N and then mylastname.com for all the products and to find us in person here in New York.
And you will also find on the Maison Beljanski, all the information about our upcoming events, the conference and podcast. I'm going to not say it with the beautiful French accent that you have, because I just don't have it.
