Did the FDA Approve Peptides? What the New Recommendation Really Means

Peptides are being promoted everywhere for healing, metabolism, longevity and mitochondrial support—but many people misunderstood the recent FDA discussion.

In this Truth in Medicine LIVE excerpt, I explain the difference between peptides and hormones, why some hormones such as insulin, growth hormone and GLP-1 are peptide-based, and why not every peptide should be treated like a well-studied hormone.

Most importantly, an FDA advisory recommendation allowing certain peptides to potentially be compounded is not the same as FDA approval of those peptides as medications. It does not prove an effective dose, long-term safety, medication compatibility or oncologic safety.

That distinction becomes especially important when peptides are promoted for tissue repair, new blood vessel formation, growth signaling or mitochondrial stimulation. Something that may appear helpful in healthy tissue could behave very differently in someone with active cancer, a history of cancer or an undiagnosed malignancy.

The science may be promising, but enthusiasm should not move faster than the evidence.

This is also the kind of deeper conversation we have inside Truth in Medicine LIVE, where I people look beyond headlines and surface-level answers.

August’s topic is AGING, and our next live session is Tuesday, August 18th.
