So one of the biggest fears women have is that they will develop breast cancer. And the statistics, unfortunately, we have way too much breast in our country. People, when they want to start hormones, one the first questions they ask is, is this going to give me breast Yes, I get asked that all the time.

And the response is, first off, there's different types of estrogens. Estrone, estriole, estradiol. We use estridiol in our practice for hormone replacement therapy, typically. What I always tell women is if you were destined to get an estrogen-dominant breast cancer, because there are many different kinds of breast cancers,

and I give you estrogen, then I'm fueling the fire. You're going to see that breast cancer appear sooner than if you were on no hormones. we are, you know, good at making sure they do their breast imaging, keeping up on their own self-breast exams, because if you catch breast cancer, it's easily, curable, treatable these days, and it is important to catch it early. And so, estrogen will not just cause that breast-cancer.
Screening, Early Detection, and Risk Context 1:14
It would have to be an estrogen-dominant breast, cancer and even some women who have had breast caner get cleared to use estrogen because it was a triple negative or something that estrogen didn't impact. So the black box label coming off of estrogen stating that it does not cause breast cancer is beneficial for women and hopefully will ease some of that. But also being able to explain to them the root causes and staying up on imaging, making sure we catch it if you are going to have something. Absolutely.
And so I always say it's not going cause it. It's going not to increase your risk.

But if you had a hormone positive tumor and I gave you hormones, yes, it could grow and get worse. So, you know, with anything, It's not completely risk free, but when we learn the facts, we can make informed decisions. Yes. And you've got to be in the hands of good providers.
