Opening thoughts on Chikungunya in China 0:00
I saw this article in my feed the other day, it says, what to know about Chikungunya amid southern China outbreak of mosquito borne virus. So this is a viral quote unquote pandemic or outbreak. It's in China and it's mosquito born. This comes from that kind of a animal mosquitoes. And I read that and I was like, wait a minute, why is it that throughout my whole life, these pandemics or outbreaks always come from China? Why don't they come from Belgium or Montana or India?

India has a billion people. It's always from China. I remember being in Detroit airport once years ago and they had these big screens with CNN and it said two birds die in China from avian flu. And I'm like, I am in Michigan. What do I care about two bird that died in china? Like, what is this fear mongering? What is, why are they saying this? So I started doing some searches and this is one thing I found. It says how China's African swine fever outbreaks affected global pork markets. This is 2023. So this from China, but it's an African Swine Fever.

Did it come from Africa or is it from china or why is in China? Here's one. It says a deadly pig disease raging in China is bound to spread to other Asian countries. Experts warn this is 2018. Here is this one China reports more avian flu cases. This is May 13th of 2025. In China, more bird flu. here's One from 2004. Bird flu spreads to China. Here's one, new viruses identified in bats in China. This is July 2nd, 2025. And maybe this is the same outbreak. 20 new bat viruses discovered in china, sparking urgent concerns about risk to humans.
So June 25th, 2025. There's always some threat, some risk, to the humans, always come from an animal, So I started doing more searches that are more creative. What about goats?

A novel virus has been identified in goats in China, 2022. And here's influenza D virus in domestic and stray cats, northern China 2024. Flu edges closer to spilling from dogs into humans. And this is in parts of Asia, April of 2023. What about this one? Snakes could be the original source of the new coronavirus outbreak in China. This is January 27th, 2020, the infamous year. Here's one from Horace's that says, characterization of a new bird-like influenza A virus from horses in china. So this like bird flu, but it's only horse flu.
This is 1992. I think if the news started saying, hey, there's a new viral outbreak in France or in name some other country,

it doesn't trigger some kind of emotion in us because we've been conditioned to know that China is some exotic location that's really dirty with really strange viruses in common animals. And so when you hear, oh, here's another flu like virus in this animal in China, we're like, Oh, yeah, that's a threat. Because they've been saying it year after year, after a year. But they never say it from any other country. So I think it's A lot of fear mongering. I Think it is the classical story of the boy who cried wolf or the sky is falling.
You say enough times people start to not believe you. And then they have to make up a virus in a lab that's strong enough that now you have believe them. Otherwise, all these viruses, they just kind of come and go, or maybe they didn't exist in the first place. I don't know. These are just my thoughts. So I'm not a virologist. Have never been to China. And just a guy in Michigan listening to these same stories over and over again for decades and not believing them, and I just sharing my thought with you.
