Your Body Remembers: Trauma and Becoming a Mother
Note: this conversation was edited to remove stories the guest shared and later wanted removed.
Our past doesn’t stay in the past, especially once we start trying to become mothers. Whether you’re navigating fertility struggles, pregnancy loss, or just the daily pressure of trying to be a good parent, old wounds have a way of resurfacing right when we need our bodies to feel safe the most.
This week I’m joined by Angel Sierpina, an integrative health coach, certified meditation instructor, and founder of the Whole Mother program at Redefine Wellness and Treatment Center. Angel’s own path into this work started with an unspoken struggle after her third child, and it eventually led her back to school and into trauma-informed care.
We get into:
✔️ How unresolved stress and trauma get stored in the body, and what that has to do with feeling safe
✔️ Big T trauma versus little T trauma, and why both matter
✔️ The hidden grief and shame that come with miscarriage and fertility struggles
✔️ The idea of the “mother wound” and how it shows up in our own parenting
✔️ Simple somatic tools you can use today, including one that takes ten seconds
✔️ Why perfectionism and high achieving can actually work against you when you’re trying to conceive
✔️ A daily meditation practice that helps you feel safe in your own body again
If your body isn’t cooperating even when you’re doing everything right, this episode will change how you think about why.
