Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain, primarily causing memory loss and cognitive decline. It is the most common cause of dementia in older adults. As the disease advances, individuals may experience difficulties with language, problem-solving, and performing everyday tasks. The exact cause of Alzheimer's is not fully understood, but it is characterized by the buildup of abnormal protein deposits in the brain, including beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's, but various medications and therapies can help manage symptoms and slow down its progression. Supportive care, cognitive stimulation, and a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, are essential in enhancing the quality of life for both individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers.
